This issue was somewhat fixed recently as stated by Adobe in a reply somewhere in this thread. I used the new version and it was fine. However, another change has evidently been made that's broken it again. Textures are back to not blending in. Results are blobby. Textures not accurately replicated.

Yes, I agree with all these concerns. It's unusable now. Large blobby noise that isn't in the picture you're extending. Texture that isn't continued. Random irrelevant objects appearing. It really is pathetic and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Additional - It's not just the brush tool. If I deactivate a layer mask, that too generates a temporary large block over the area most recently edited. Again, toggling the layer removes it.

I know this is an old post, but I'm having this problem too. All drivers and software up to date. It's nothing to do with brush settings or anything. This is purely a display artefact / error. Everything the original poster said is true for me too. Toggling the layer removes the artefact. GPU is RTX 3060

I've been having all these same problems. In the end a simple copy and paste did the job for me. The separate paths came into INDD as a grouped object. I was able to ungroup and then edit away.

I'm still frequently having this problem (or one very similar) on Adobe CC. Pressing Esc does nothing. I usually fix it by getting frustrated and clicking everything I can think of to eventually get it to shut up, which it does. It's acting as if I'm trying to perform an operation while something else is active. However nothing IS active, and the noise seems to be utterly irrelevant. I am on Windows 7 64 bit.
