So I'm not sure what happened. But getting frustrated with all the bugs I'm experiencing with version 25, I installed version 24, and then 25 started behaving. I was no longer experiencing the issue of collapsing workspace tabs. I don't think that 24 changed anything for 25 since it's a separate install, but it did seem to affect it somehow.

Hm, don't see Application Frame on here: Undocking the toolbar doesn't change the existing behavior.

Full Photoshop I don't think I'm using the application frame? If it's on by default then I might be.

I moved the collapsed ones to the left side next to the brushes and closed photoshop. Reopened and it's still collapsing all but the swatches. I also moved the layers to be on top, then Character, then swatches. I saved it as a new workspace profile. Closed photoshop and reopened it. It's still doing it with the top panel (Now Layers/History)

@c.pfaffenbichler The workspace was saved. Resetting the workspace restores it how I want it to be. But once I close and reopen photoshop, it has the same problem of collapsing everything on the right side except the swatches. I've also tried deleting and recreating my workspace, but that also did not fix it.

As a further annoyance, Photoshop is now collapsing all of my right side workspace tabs except for the one at the top (Swatches). So I have it set up with Swatches at the top, then Layers/History, then Character. When I start up photoshop, Layers/History are are collapsed and Swatches take up the entire remaining right side workspace menu area. I have to open these up now every time I start up photoshop. I have not changed anything on Photoshop, nor have I updated. It just started doing it one day.

Reply #2. After more messing around, I found on the top bar there's an "Auto Select: Dropdown" option and it had group set. I changed it to Layer and turned auto select on. But that selected the layers by just clicking on them. I switched to the paintbrush and then back, and now it works as intended. So I'm not sure what I did there, but that seems to have done the trick? Still seems weird. Now it's set off and when I hold down shift, it temporarily turns on Auto-Select. But whatever it works as I expect it to. I should have mentioned that I have a new computer and I'm still going through the settings to set it up like my old computer and this might have been one of them.

I forgot to mention that this is for clicking on the actual image, and not the layers list.

I am using Photoshop 25.3.1 on Windows 11 It used to be if you wanted a quick way to select a layer, you could hold control and left mouse click on the layer. This works unless you put the layer in a group folder. Once you put your layers in a group folder, it's selecting the folder and not the layers. I tried to find this in the keyboard shortcuts, preferences to see if this was something I could change, but I couldn't find it. If anyone knows of a way to fix this, please let me know. Right now it just seems like the default behavior has changed to select the folder and not the layer.

Hi all. I just got a new computer and installed the latest version of Photoshop on it. Previously I was using 24.0.7 (I think it was) on my old computer. For reference my old computer was windows 10, and my new one is windows 11. I got all my brushes and presets and everything on the new one. But one quirk I keep running into is that whenever I run photoshop, it closed all of my brush folders. I have one at the top called "my most used brushes" (original, I know) that I just like to keep open full time. And sometimes I keep my specialty brush folders open when I'm working on a project that will take more than one day. The older version of photoshop used to keep them open for me. Is there a way to keep this behavior in the latest version? Is there a setup thing I might have missed? Any advice would be helpful.

As if on cue, one month later again, it's starting to happen again. I'm still on 24.7.0 since people are saying it's happening in 25.

It's been about a month since I had this issue, and it has decided to return. I am using 24.7.0 So the fix as listed by alfredoc1234 is a temporary fix. But good news, it worked the second time around too. I guess I'll just have to keep doing this until Adobe fixes it.

I'm having this problem as well, though it's with anything that has any kind of drag option. I especially get it with the color picker, gradient tool, and any of the lasso or marquee type tools. At first I thought it was my wacom pen, but I don't have the problem with any other program. In addition it happens with the mouse as well. It's as if the program doesn't know when to stop dragging and to release the tool. It's really infuriating.

Hi there. I did search. My issue was initially with the text, and when I searched for text layer problems, nothing came up. I did try alternative, and I even looked through recent posts. If they've all been merged perhaps there's only one thread now instead of 'many posts'. Comments like these are generally unhelpful as they just discourage people from posting for help - which considering Adobe's site sends you here directly when you want to submit a bug report - seems to be the point of these forums.

I just updated to Photoshop CC v21.2. I'm on Windows 10. Everything seems normal up until I try to copy and paste something. In this case I've noticed it specifically with text layers and drawing layers. Procedure to Duplicate (Happens every time for me): 1. Write a sentence in notepad. 2. Copy sentence to a text layer in Photoshop. 3. Move the text layer anywhere on the canvas. You will notice that there is a ghost copy of the text layer still present where it was originally located. Alternative Issue: 1. Write a sentence in notepad. 2. Copy sentence to a text layer in Photoshop. 3. Edit your original sentence. You'll see the original ghost sentence is still visible while the new edited sentence is also visible making it impossible to read. This is not just with notepad. If you write the sentence in Photoshop in a text layer, and then copy/paste part of who of that sentence to a new layer, it will do the same thing. If you draw on a layer and copy/paste it, it will also do the same thing. Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
