So somebody just accepted a reply as a "correct answer". Except that what the correct answer says worked, does not work any better than calling it up through Photoshop. The bug continues to exist for a subset of Photoshop users, in particular those using it on certain HP hardware. I spent a few hours with an Adobe Support person who was extremely thorough, and he created a case with my log files and other details about my system. Everything he expected would fix it did not. We wiped all adobe software off of the system, reinstalled, ran it in safe mode, etc. He was surprised by this and was fully invested in trying to fix it, but could not. So it's a case in Adobe's system and I've provided all information that I could. This is not "Solved". The issue persists.

It fails on my HP Envy Laptop and the issue isn't fixed yet. Seems like it might have been introduced in 22.3, and still is with is in 25.12. It appears to be HP specific, and maybe just to certain HP equipment. Photomerge and "System Info", both freeze up before the dialogs even come up. On my Dell however, the problem doesn't exist and things work. There is a longer thread with more discussion about Photomerge locking up Photoshop completely, and the same seems to happen with System Info on the Help menu. It's happening to me with an HP Envy Laptop. From what I've seen with others reporting in, HP hardware seems to be a common factor for people experiencing the freeze. From what I'm seeing, the problem seems to have a lot to do with HP hardware. I'm experiencing it on an HP Envy Laptop and the problem persists... There is a longer thread with more discussion. Update in September 2024: Still a problem in Photoshop version 25.12, on my HP Envy laptop. Keeping these refreshed so Adobe can know that we're still waiting a few years after the problem was initially reported. I did work for quite a while with support on the phone, so they have a case, with my log files and all other details. It's just not a priority I guess. Update on Oct 17, 2024: A new major version of Photoshop was released. This bug is still present in this new release of Photoshop CC 2025 (version 26.0.0). Update on Jan 9, 2025: This bug still exists in Photoshop CC 2025 (version 26.2.0).

Here is something that I hadn't done before, and somehow it seems to have made a difference, but I cannot confirm because I can't put it back into a non-working state. I rolled it back to 25.7, and it still didn't work. I ran it as administrator, and that did not work either. I modified a couple of things in my settings. One was to check that I was using a pre-2016 graphics card. The other was to auto show the home screen on start. I restarted and re-ran as administrator. It showed me that I had exceeded my activations showing me three items two of them showing the computer names, which I'll refer to A and B: "This computer", "A" and "B". A and B were shown as activated, and "This computer" is actually "A". But it didn't seem to know that. So I deactivated A, and the dialog box went away. Now the GenAI stuff works!! I ran as a regular user (not as administrator) and it works as well. I toggled my settings back to not show the home screen on startup, and unchecked the "Pre-2016 graphics card setting" and things are still good. I don't know what that tells anybody else having similar troubles. I'm not sure which of any of these actions made the actual difference, but I lean towards the activation part. It was as if that activation part is baked into the Home screen and if you don't show the home screen on startup, you won't end up seeing that activation dialog. To be clear, I only have two computers, "A" and "B", and why Creative Cloud/Photoshop suddenly thought I was on a third computer when I was actually on "A" which was a registered computer, I do not understand. Poor or no error messages that mean anything useful have wasted a lot of my day today and last night.

I've been in my Behance profile (I don't use Behance, but I went through the profile anyway), and I looked at my Adobe profile, and I don't see a date of birth anywhere in any part of my profiles. I've seen others reporting that they've looked and not found as well. Also, if this was the reason why (date of birth), why is it working on my laptop and not on my desktop? I'm using the same Adobe CC account and subscription in both places. I'm not using a social media profile to log in. I've deactivated and reactivated my desktop. I backed off to 25.9.1, because I was pretty sure the Gen AI stuff worked before (but it's possible that I only used it when I was on my laptop; I can't be sure. Could that be a red herring? If you switch the scratch back, does it stop working again? I'm just wondering if it's a coincidence that you switched it, and perhaps something else changed around the same time. I'm still strugging to get this working on my desktop. Works fine on my laptop, but the generative features are greyed out on my desktop.

I updated Photoshop to 25.11.0 the other day. Generative AI functions no longer work. I have two machines that CC is activated on: a desktop and a laptop. The GenAI features work fine on the laptop (it's newer and more powerful). But on the desktop, the functions have stopped working. They are greyed out. The icon on the toolbar is grayed out and does show a blue circle. I have one Adobe account. I've gone to Behance, and there is no age-related field for me to fill in, but I don't think that's the issue since the functions work fine on the laptop. The AI features shouldn't depend on the power of my graphics, because that's sent to Adobe's more powerful servers. So I'm baffled as to what's going on.

Welcome to the club of HP owners where these two things freeze up consistently. I've got a case with Adobe where I spent time with their support person, and he confirmed it. There was nothing he could do to alleviate the freezes (I don't call them crashes, because I haven't seen it bail out of the application ungracefully. Rather, it just hangs there and requires that the app be killed from the task manager). They reached back out to me recently, asking me to try it in 25.9. Nope it's the same. I don't think they're debugging and pursuing this in the right way. They need to get in with a debugger and step through the code on an HP Envy, where this is happening, to pinpoint the issue. Hangs like this should be reasonably easy to find if you just get to the point where it hangs, break in the debugger, and have a look at the call stack. Update in September 2024: Still a problem in Photoshop version 25.12. Update in December 2024: There is still a problem with Photoshop version 26.2. This time, when it froze up Photoshop, it also appeared to freeze up my Thunderbird until I killed off Photoshop in the Windows Task Manager, and then my Thunderbird was functional again. Grabbing onto and locking some global resource in the system on HP laptops? I don't know.

I spent a few hours on the phone with Adobe tech support. We tried everything under the sun to reset Photoshop, remove all Adobe software, and then reinstall it all after doing a very thorough cleaning. I'm grateful to the support tech who patiently went through all kinds of things. Later that evening, I discovered something interesting. Many of the people reporting this are indicating that they have an HP ENVY or other type of HP laptop. This is too coincidental. One user said the problem exists on his HP laptop, but it works fine on his Dell laptop. I don't have this problem on my Dell desktop either, but it persists on my HP ENVY laptop. I've responded to my case to indicate that they follow up on that particular lead. Meanwhile, if you're having this problem, share with us the specifics of your hardware. It may be a specific component that many HP Laptops have in common and may extend to other brands that use that particular component.

I take back my reply to this. You're using Photoshop Elements and you're on a MacBook Pro, and you're saying it sometimes works and other times causes Elements to crash. That's not the same bug that we're talking about here.

WTH. I'm having this issue in May 2024. HP Envy laptop, Windows 11. 32 GB RAM. 2TB SSD. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 / 8GB. Photoshop v25.7 2.5 hours on the phone with a patient, thorough support rep. We tried everything you could imagine. Completely wiping everything and after uninstalling, going into every folder to remove traces of Adobe. Then reinstalling everything. Running from a new test account. Running from the system Administrator account. Wiping preferences. With the onboard graphics with the 4060 disabled, and vice-versa. Turning off the windows Firewall. I'm starting to think that this is some freak incompatibility with the HP Envy laptops UPDATE: Still freezing as of Photoshop version 25.11

I've noticed this as well. The saved file seems fine, but the image displayed in the "Export as" dialog is oversaturated. As an aside, if somebody from Adobe is reading this, this is yet another bug that's been around for years that hasn't been fixed. I'm available for hire as a developer if you're having difficulty finding people to work on these bugs. 😉

Nothing's changed... I'm having exactly this problem in April 2024 with version Photoshop 25.7. Windows 11 (which could be the problem, to be honest), on a new HP ENVY laptop, 32GB RAM and an RTX 4060. Picking either command freezes Photoshop before the dialog box has a chance to appear. Like others, I don't get a dialog for Help->System info... either, and that freezes the application, requiring me to kill the app from the task manager. The file or Help menu's highlights remain when clicking on the menu. This indicates that this isn't even in the heavy graphics processing part of the application. This is probably a bug in the UI code. In the meantime, I worked around your bug by copying the photos into a single image as layers, arranging the layers a bit, using Align Layers followed by Blend Layers, and further tweaking the image with various Content Aware tools. Adobe: This has been a bug since 2022 (or prior, in your beta), right up through PS 25.7. "C'mon, Man!" Please calm down about all of this AI stuff and try to fix the bugs in the fundamentals.

I think the problem here has to do with some incompatibility specifically between photoshop and the specific driver. I'm using a Zebra GK420d label printer with Seagull Scientific Drivers. I was having the issue printing from Photoshop and my drivers were the 2023.2 drivers. I just upgraded the drivers downloaded from their website as of April 2024. Photoshop print dialog going to Zebra printer through Seagull drivers, specifying multiple copies always only prints one copy. Photoshop print dialog going to HP LaserJet through HP drivers, I can print multiple coples as expected. Saving the label to a PDF file, opening in Foxit Reader and printing multiple copies to the Zebra printer with Seagull drivers, no problem at all and I get however many copies I specify. So Photoshop is getting right with the HP printer, but not with the Zebra printer, even with the latest Seagull drivers. Somebody from Photoshop printing team might want to talk to somebody at Seagull Scientific and Zebra to get this kink worked out. My needs are relatively simple and I'm printing to 4x6 labels (I primarily print USPS and UPS labels, but sometimes I want to create a label for different purposes. The document size is 4x6in, resolution is 203ppi, matching the printers resolution. When I output to PDF and open the PDF file, I set scaling to "none". That shouldn't make any adjustments ot the image in terms of aspect ratio or size. I do NOT select "fit to page" or any of the other options. For those having issues, try to adapt things to your printer using the same steps.

I think you're giving Adobe too much credit by assuming that they're actually updating the application with security updates or some other small improvement while not bumping the version number. I'm confident that this is a bug in Creative Cloud, where it incorrectly reports that an update is available for Photoshop when there isn't. I'm on Photoshop 25.6.0. The last modified times for all of the files in the Photoshop application folder in Windows show March 22, 2024, at 8:00pm EST. I know I upgraded to 25.6.0 days ago. I noticed that the folder for "Adobe Creative Cloud Experience" and the files within show a last modified time a bit earlier this evening (3/26), around the time I received the notification that Photoshop was updated. So, it might be misleading to say that the update is for Photoshop. It might be an update for the Creative Cloud App or other common applications/libraries that are part of Creative Cloud.

I'm in Photoshop 2023, and all I get in the Preset Manager are Contours and Tool Presets. Something isn't right. You can manage Contours from the Layer Styles dialog for the various styles that use them. Tool Presets has a window for managing them. If what Chuck is saying is true, why do we have the Preset Manager? Why hasn't it been removed if Adobe no longer wants to keep it there? In the past four years, they've just left this like this? I don't think so. According to Adobe's online help, on a page updated in Nov 2022, the various presents should be present in this dialog. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/presets.html

As others have said, "Workarounds are not solutions." Especially when the problem is getting persistent "Something went wrong while syncing presets" errors, and the proposed workaround is "Turn off Preset Syncing". BTW, I see people were having this problem in 2021, but I'm having this problem in February of 2023, with version 23.5.4.

@Govardhan.V Thank you for the link. I will give it a try. @AdobeDevelopers, who probably don't show up in these forums: You really should be embarrassed. The problem has existed for a long time. I'm kindly being referred to a post from back on April 27, 2021 (over a year ago) by a community manager. The post suggests five different ways of trying to fix a problem. The post seems to guess what the problems might be. How does the development team not know what the problem is and why haven't more recent versions of the code mitigated the problem. Another issue: When running the Creative Cloud App, it tells me there is a problem and suggests that I reinstall the app. Maybe these issues are related. Software should be able to give me more specifics about the errors that it encounters, and it should also be able to perform whatever automated steps are required to repair any corruption issues when it encounters them. It's 2022 for cryin' out loud! The technology is here, you just have to use it in your products. May the fourth be with you.

Over the past year, I've gotten alerts from Creative Cloud that I have new updates. For example, this morning, I was alerted that an updated to Photoshop was available. It told me I could updated to 23.3.1. I've already got 23.3.1... I confirmed it. Is this a bug or something whacked on my system? This has happened to me many times with other versions. I don't know if something is getting removed from the system which is used as as indicator for which version is installed. Is the CC app looking at log files to confirm what is installed? Because I do clear out things with CCleaner every once in a while, and log files are likely candidates for removals.

Every few days (roughly), There is a notification on Windows 10 Pro (Desktop), from the Create Cloud Desktop app telling me an Update for Photoshop is available. When I click on the notification, it brings me into the Creative Cloud Desktop app, and I see a recent update to Bridge (already updated), but nothing for Photoshop. I'm currently running Photoshop 23.1.1 which is the latest since mid January. So I am led to believe that there is an update by the notification, but there is not. I'll keep ignoring this until there really is an update for PS, then maybe it will stop. ;-)) My version of the Creative Cloud Desktop app is 5.6.5.58.

It worked on an earlier version of photoshop, within the last year, with that very driver. It's the latest driver available for that card as far as I know. I can go out and buy a new video card that is supported with up-to-date drivers, which I've been thinking about. But what changed in Photoshop that caused these three filters to stop working altogether? Is Adobe sure this is a driver issue and not a Photoshop issue?

When I select any of the Flames, Trees or Frame filters mentioned, it fills my layer with the foreground color. I don't see any dialogs like I used to. I haven't used these options recently, so I don't know which version it started doing this, but I know it worked in the past on this machine, with the same configuration. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of PS. I do have the graphics processor enabled, otherwise the rendering options would be disabled (greyed out). I've also rebooted the machine. Plenty of diskspace, dedicated partition on a secondary drive for scratch, ... Seems like a bug that is causing those filters to just fart out, but odd that the layer gets painted with the foreground color. Any ideas? I can't seem to find anybody experiencing this issue who has posted online about it. This is the same problem I've had on my machine at home, but not on my work computer. I believe it has to do with PS not handling specific errors with the graphics cards. My machine is 11 years old, but it's still beefy enough to run Photoshop (16 GB RAM, Core i7-2600...) But the graphics card I have in that computer is a GeForce GT 530. Which is the one that came with the machine. In a situation where this was the computer that I was relying on day-in/day-out, I would have upgraded the whole machine, but this is my Home PC. I'm looking forward to getting home to see if 22.3.1 (released today) is going to fix the problems with the error dialogs. Either that or it will be time to upgrade the computer or at least the graphics card to something a bit more modern and with more capabilities.
