For context, for the past 8 months Ive been using Photoshop version 22.2.0 from 2021. The reason Ive been using this 3 year old photoshop version is because all versions of photoshop post 2022 dont agree with my current hardware. In fact, when discussing this issue with adobe's support (before they replaced real people with an ai chat bot), they told me that versions from before 2023 were perfect, and gave me access to a version of photoshop from early 2021. I knew at some point this wouldnt last forever and Adobe would 'punish' me in someway for not using their buggy and bloated latest versions. And earlier today I got this pop up when I opened up photoshop: I really dont want to update photoshop at all, and I want to continue using the 2021 version. Its been the most stable and less buggy photoshop experience Ive had in a long time. In fact, between November (when I started using this version) and now, I have had zero program crashes. Plus, this happening now is pretty bad since Im working on a chapter of my webcomic and while I have gotten another art program to replace photoshop, Im still adjusting to that program and have been using photoshop to draw and complete this chapter before I move onto the new program. But I know its not in my control weather I continue to use Photoshop 2021 or not, so I just wanted to ask if anyone has also refused to update their version of photoshop, how long do I have before Im barred from using PS 2021?

That's a realization that Im coming to understand. It seems a lot of revovles around my graphics card which I've had a for a while. I do find it crazy how something can out be out of date within less than 5 years but I guess anything can happen with how advanced technology is getitng. I do want to upgrade it but to be honest, if I were to do it now, it would just be so I could run photoshop well. And I dont know if thats really worth it, esepcially because there are other options for art programs out there that are not as hardware dependent as photoshop and potentionally more attractive due to features and prices being way lower than any adobe product. Taking that into account, I dont think its worth it paying lots of money I dont have upgrading my enitre pc just for one program. I am currently in the process of phasing out photoshop for use in creating my webcomic and going forward, it wont be used as much outside a couple of things here in there like school stuff which may compensate for my somewhat out of date set up. Ah I see. I know this might not be the answer you want to hear but at this point, I'd rather to switch to different program to do art than pay hundreds and thousands of dollars just so photoshop can properly. At that point, its just not worth to invest that much money for one program, especially if the other options are more attractive and less relient on hardware creep. Thats not to say Im not open for upgrading ceritan pc parts, but I the motivation to be an improvement for my pc overall, rather than a means to run photoshop well. Dont know why I typed GPU lol I can't say that I've had any crashes with Photoshop in the last 5 years probably more, I don't mind keeping my GPU driver up to date, in fact I update all my system drivers on a regular basis. I will agree about the bugs though, for example, Adobe knew about a bug in the Beta version affecting the colour sliders and still decided to roll out version 25.1 without fixing the bug. I just reazlied I put gpu instead of graphics card driver which was what I meant to put. Sorry for the confusion. I have a Nvidia Graphics Card, the same one I've been using since I've got my current pc back in late 2020. I've had it for nearly 3 plus years and I kind of find it ridiculous that its potentionally a problem now when photoshop ran fine on it prior to 2023. To be honest, Im very reluctant on buying a new one, due to how much trouble I've had with my pc. In the nearly 3 years I've had it, I've gone through 3 hard drives, one of them getting some sort of virus after updating windows 10 even though I hadnt downloaded anything, and last year my motherboard died on me which I had to relace, along with the gpu and cooling system. Im still paying off the purchases of and payments for repairs to this day, and its a miracle that throughout all of this, my graphics card has remained the same since 2020. Though to be fair, I dont feel as hesitant like I was last year since I've gone through a full year without pc issues, but I dont know...

So this is going to be more of a rant than anything, coming right off the back of photoshop crashing on me a few minutes ago, just like it did yesterday morning, and will probably do the same tomorrow morning. What happened to Photoshop? Why did the program suddenly get so bad when 2022 rolled in 2023? Like before the new years, program crashes were a rare occurance, but after the near years, nearly constant. I've had more crashes this year than I've had in the previous 3 years I've used this program, with it crashing on a nearly freaking basis during the first 3 weeks of the year, and most recently jumping up to a nearly daily basis. Im a comic artist who has been using photoshop for drawing his webcomic and these crashes have been a source of anger and stress for me, having to loose my work because auto recover doesnt work in the way it usually crashes. And its gotten to the point where I'm planning on dropped Photoshop near entirely in favor of Clip Studio Paint, and while I've only had that program for just over a month and dont feel proficient enough in it to make the swtich yet, I have not had a single crash with that prorgram compared to photoshop which I think has crashed just around 10 times, maybe even more. I have made two threads about this, and both answers to that my graphics card driver was out of date. So that means I've had to update my graphics card driver TWO TIMES within the SAME YEAR. Bare in mind, I've never had to do this at all prior to 2023, but suddenly I have to do this every couple of months just so photoshop wont die on me, which isnt a guarentee? Im not mad at the people who suggested it, but I am made at adobe for turning what was a functional program into a complete mess. And that isnt even mentioning the bugs that have yet to be fixed. Im sure you've heard of the left clock lock bug that adobe has yet to fix after 8 months of it being in the program. And Im sure many of you reading this have your own issues with photoshop this year, possibly similar to mine or something. I dont know what else to say, Im just extremely frustrated with how unstable and buggy the program has become.

Just checked in with this thread (removed), Adobe still hasnt fixed this issue? There's been (removed) how many updates since March and despite the many new features they've introduced, they somehow cant a bug that Im sure would be easily fixable. Either Adobe has remained completely ignorant of whats been happening or they do and choose not care. For their sake, Im hoping its not the latter but either way this reflects badly on an "Industry Standard Program".
I am just as frustrated as you all but I would like to offer some of solution...well more specifically a way of avoiding the left click gitch. I've noticed that it has a tendancy to be triggered if you're using specific keyboard commands like "shift + crtl + z" for redoing, "Shift + crtl + v" for pasting in place, or "Crtl + X" for copying and cutting. There might be others these are the commands I tend to use the most and whenever I used the keyboard commands for them instead of doing it the manual way, the left click lock would happen more often and much sooner, sometimes as soon as the program opened. Because of this, I've moved away from using those specific keyboard commands and have been going the manual route of going to the window tab. Its much slowler yes but it has meant I have been able to keep the program open for much longer. Though not by much considering how many times photoshop has crashed on me this year but tangents aside, I hope this can help cope with adobe's incompitence.
I just realized I made a post in this thread earlier this year about a similar observation except with the move and ellipse tools but I guess posting again wouldnt hurt right? XD

@D Fosse Damn.... I dont really know what else to say because the GeForce Experience has a screen capture option. I use it quite regularly and I would prefer not sacrficing it for Photoshop. I dont intend on using the program quite heavily in the near future, as my plans are to begin using a different program for my art and comic work, with Photoshop taking a support/secondary use. And fortunatly, for the time being at least, Photoshop has become stable since I made started the thread, which allow me to get my project done on time without any losses of progress or hiccups. So I hope you can understand my reasoning as to why I dont want to sacrifice GeFroce Experience for a program that will no longer be my main source of creating digital art soon.

@Ged_Traynor Finally getting around to installing the studio driver. I just have one question however. If I click "NVIDA Graphics Driver" instead of "NVIDA Graphics Driver and GeForce Experience", will I still have the ability to screen capture? I would like answer soon because if does former does not include the screen capture feature, then Im sorry. I can not install that version of Nvida. I do the screen capture feature quite regularly and it would be a shame to use it. Though I wonder if there would be any difference if I decide to go with the latter

Sorry for the late reply @Ged_Traynor Im kinda shocked I have to do another gpu driver update. I literally updated my driver early this year and its already out of date?! I guess these driver updates are more frequent than I would've imagined. I'll give it a try later today, though I have my doubts, Im hoping this will do the trick 😞

So straight out of nowhere, crtl is suddently swithcing between tabs, which makes saving and undo'ing very annoying. I dont even know how I turned it on because this has never happened in the 4 years I've been using photoshop. Is there a way to turn it off?

@Derek Cross The version of Photoshop Im using is is Version 25.0, so pretty much the latest version of the prorgram As for Ram, I have 32 GB of it and a 1 TB hard drive with 266 GB of free spcae And to answer your last question, no I have not. Just when I thought my photoshop experience couldnt get any worse, the program is now crashing on me every single freaking day now and ALWAYS while Im flatting and doing selections. But whereas before it would freeze and I would have to close it with task manager. Now it freezes my entire and closses on its own. I cant even do the usually tricks that I would usually do to avoid a crash when this happens, and its so f**king infuriating as you can imagine. This is even worse than when it would crash on a weekly basis in the first 3 months of this year, and I am praying to God that I dont have 3 crashes happening in the same damn day again... Seems like this thread hasnt been updated but it doesnt really matter. Im pretty much done with photoshop for art and comic making at this point. I must've lost thousands of hours of work due these crashes and my tolerance and patience with it has completely worn thin. I can no longer trust photoshop with how unstable and gltichy its been this entire year, and frustrates me to no end because this change was seemingly over night like a switch was flipped. I seem to have a bad luck with Photoshop this year, because I've experienced more crashes in 2023 than I've had in the last 3 to 4 years I've been using this program. Specificially, the crash itself will involve the whole program freezing on me, where I cant do anything weather it be saving my work or minimizing the tab. Whats really annoying about this specific crash is that auto recover doesnt work properly. Crash in any other way or my pc turns off somehow, and it will recover whatever I was working on from the moment it happened. That doesnt happen here, and while I have adjusted the auto recover settings from 10 to 5 minutes, it still feels like a punch to the gut knowing whatever drawing or flatting progress I made up to the moment it froze would be gone forever. Now, I did make a similar thread earlier this year, back when this occurance was far, far worse.... No joke, I would have crashes literally every single week. Sometimes twice on the same dang day. And while it frequency of crashes has mercifully died down ever since, it still happens enough to be an issue. I sincerly miss when crashing was a rare occasion and didnt happen enough to be a problem. Im seriosuly getting to the point that I want to end my creative cloud subscription and use a different program for art if this crap persists. Im not asking to end freezing this way period, but just to lesson it to where it happens far less than it does. Also for the same background, I have not had any hardware changes that may have caused this. The last one was in August last year, and that was long before Photoshop's performance took a sharp nose dive.

Originally this reply was made out of anger and my frustrations with how bad photoshop has become since the start of the year and while I do feel justified in feeling that way, I dont think I should've let out on a forum thread. Since I cant seem to delete messages here, Im just going to edit this post to remove that rant. Needless to say, Im very dissapointed with how Photoshop's fallen this year. And while this isnt as bad as the weekly program crashes and lost progress I experienced for the first three months of this year, its still incredibly inconvenient. I feel I should look for other programs to use for drawing

Tried it last night and it didnt work. Its still doing it and strangely enough, a side effect of restting the preferences is that any recent files I opened werent showing when I reopened photoshop 😕 I think I'll just revert to the previous PS version until a solution can be found

Apologies for the late reply. Im using version 24.5. No I have not tried reseting the preferences, though Im not sure how that would work. I mean this only started happening when I updated it, and I dont know what in the preferences would've triggered this. But I'll try it anyway

This is something I noticed after the latest update but whenever I switch file tabs to view a different file then go back to the one I was currently on, the rotation angle I had the canvas at or where I was focused on by zooming is 'reset'. It is quite inconvenient for an artist like me, who constantly switches tabs to look at other drawings references or to get a color. I would revert updates but I know there must be someway of turning it off. Could anyone enlighten me on this?

I dont know if this happens with anyone else but I noticed something with the left click bug. Initially I noticed that it would only happen after having photoshop open for more than 24 hours. I've had photoshop open for twice that but a few hours ago, I started expeirencing the bug again. But I also did notice that it would be triggered if I used the command keys for activating specific tools. For me, I noticed this would be triggered if I pressed "V" for the move tool and "M" for the elliptical marquee tool. Its weird because it doesnt trigger when pressing the keys for any other tool, like the bursh or rotate tool

I actually created a thread on this a few weeks ago and it was around the time I had updated my graphics card's driver (to stop photoshop from frequently crashing like it had been since new years). Apart of me was worried that that was the cause but it looks like Im not the only experiencing this issue which one hand Im glad that my attempt at making photoshop stable had caused this annoying glitch wasnt the cause, it also is annoying that this is even an issue thay still hasnt been fixed! 😞

Thank you @mglush. Unfortunatly, both of these methods didnt work. I dont think its the indvidual tools that are the problem but something with the program itself. I noticed this has started happening when I had updated it to the 24.2.1 version, although it could have gone on for longer as I reverted photoshop to the October update to stop the weekly program freezes and crashes that had been plauging me since new years.
