@CJButlerThanks for this clarification. At least for now it is working, but I haven't had enough chance to test it and see if there are side-effects to User Experience. In any case, as least you are able to reproduce the issue again so that maybe will help with pinpointing the actual root cause of this problem.

Does not seem like it, there has been no official response here and the issue still occurs. It may be because the issue was not tagged as a bug that it doesn't get the attention of staff, if it's just a discussion then it's between community members? Unsure. In any case, no fix.

@Chad Rolfs Amazing ❤️ This seems to be a fix! I have only been able to test on one of 3 workstations this evening but I will test the rest and confirm. For now, at least on this workstation the PSUserConfig.txt seems to have resolved the issue finally I really appreciate your efforts on this. This issue has been affecting PS workflow for over 5 years.

Hello @Aleke Thanks for the follow up. Here is a video of the problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jphkXc9V7t4 If you need me to get on a video call to show you anything about the affected systems I will literally do that, I have been dealing with this annoyance for years. @CShubertand @CJButler marked this as Fixed (here https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/p-cursor-gets-stuck-on-transform-handle-in-photoshop-22-5-1-windows-only/td-p/12343584/page/5) but it has not been fixed at all, and many others report the same. They recommended starting a new thread if the issue persisted, which I did in October but which was ignored (https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/completely-broken-hand-move-tool-still-stuck-in-transform-handle/idi-p/14911502). Affected versions: Every version of Photoshop since at least 2019. This includes 26.3 and 25.12.1 (the two I have currently installed) but also every other version of 25, 24, etc. Other relevant information: Windows 10 Home / Business both affected, Windows 11 Home affected Hardware: All different hardware. I have systems with Intel i9 12700k, i9 12900k, MSI motherboards, dell motherboards, Bluetooth mouse (Logitech Anywhere MX3), Hard-wired USB mouse. All NVIDIA GPUs but RTX 3060 FE, RTX 4080 Laptop, RTX 3080 FE. PCs themselves from all different manufacturers, this happens on Dell, MSI, Acer, Asus, etc. None of these things make any difference, the bug occurs on all systems equally. None of them have a tablet or any tablet drivers. Some users mentioned issues with Wacom drivers potentially causing this, FYI I have never had a Wacom (or any other) tablet installed on any of these systems. I'll note that the thread linking this behaviour above is from 2021 so this bug has been known for 3+ years and not fixed. I will post the systemInfo, but again, this happens on all of my PCs so I expect this is a software issue and not a problem with any of the affected machines. I have had at least 6 separate systems over the past 5 years all from different manufacturers and this issue has existed in every single one. Second update on this. FYI this also occurs in most recent version of PS. So even after updating this does not get rid of the window, if you have a second install of an older version on CC it will STILL pop up even if you have the most recent version of PS open. Very problematic popup that needs to be removed entirely.

Happens on every Windows computer I own, different hardware on all of them. Reported to have been fixed months ago but absolutely no change whatsoever in this behaviour which still makes photoshop borderline unusuable.

This window is not closeable and renders old photoshop versions unusable: I'm very aware of the software version I'm on, and am using it intentionally. This started popping up this morning after CC Update and now I cannot close it. I am on Rural Internet and cannot just update Photoshop every single time there's a release. This needs to stop. It pops up every time the application is opened (WIN 10) and cannot be closed (close button does not work or the window re-opens itself). In fact, because this window has focus I can't even close the application in order to stop this. I have to close Photoshop via the Task Mamanger because this renders the whole application stuck in this state. This also pops up randomly: It's not that this opens on startup, but randomly appears mid-work. So as I am halfway through a project this will open and force me to close the work mid-way through, losing all progress. Please remove this useless popup that prevents you from using the last-most-recent version, this is insane. UPDATE: A second window now has NO CLOSE BUTTON AT ALL and the only way out of this is to update immediatelty, rendering the currently-installed application totally unusable.

Unfortunately I have to revive this but: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-completely-broken-hand-tool-ps24-5-hand-tool-sticking-sticky-not-seeing-mouse-up/idc-p/14660275/page/26#M106438 @CShubertsince you asked about this as the last post there: We wanted to update this thread that the issue was fixed with the release of 25.6. If you are still having this issue with the most recent Ps version, please start a new thread with your information so the team can investigate further. Unfortunately this bug is still happening to me on every single machine I own (all different PCs; all Windows 10 but each with otherwise different hardware specs - none of these computers have ever had a tabloet installed so there are no tablet drivers or tablet hardware associated with this). The issue was never resolved for me in 25.6 as said in that thread, but unfortunately has (and still) persists including in the most recent version. I am now on 25.12 and it is still a problem. I am not the only one reporting that this was not fixed in 25.6, as others report it happening in 25.7 (no response was made to this report): https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/cursor-stuck-in-transform-handle/m-p/14584481 Symptoms are the same as those reported by dozens of others in oroginal thread: move tool gets stuck in corner when attempting to resize an unlocked layer. I understand that this has been a difficult issue to track and resolve, but it has been happening since 2001 (https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/p-cursor-gets-stuck-on-transform-handle-in-photoshop-22-5-1-windows-only/m-p/12343584?search-action-id=612303251094&search-result-uid=12343584) and we are now nearing the end of 2024 and it is still happening.....this is a serious problem that makes PS borderline unusable, but unfortunately it has remained unfixed for years.

These are mostly correct. A few differences, I will elaborate on each: Presumed: Windows - YES Presumed: Multi-layer document with a single layer selected. The Document Window is docked (not floating). - YES (Also happens on single-layer document if the layer is unlocked; e.g., if I open an image file it will open as a single locked layer - the issue also happens if I unlock that layer to transform it, it does not require multiple layers to be present to occur) Presumed: You are using the Move Tool, "Auto-Select" is enabled and "Show Transform Controls" is enabled. - YES to Show Transform, NO to Auto-Select (although I work with Auto-Select Layer Off, I do not think it makes a difference to the issue whether this is enabled; can confirm when I am home) Presumed: Contextual Task Bars are enabled (small button bar over the content) - NO/YES (Sometimes I turn it off, but can confirm this makes no difference; this bug happens both when contextual task bar is on and off) Presumed: You do NOT use ctrl-T to initiate the Transform command- CORRECT Presumed: You hover over a control point (resize cursor), or near a corner control point (rotate cursor) - YES (And can confirm bug is initiated by click for both resize cursor and rotate cursor) Presumed: You click (mouse-down, mouse-up) on a control point, and the mouse sticks to the control point and initiates the transform as the mouse moves. You have to hit the Escape or mouse-down again followed by Undo to get back to no-transform state - YES

Hello - Yes, absolutely. I will do literally anything you need to help get this fixed haha 1.No pen/stylus. I work only with mouse and keyboard 2. This mainly happens for me with the transform tool. I am just clicking the transform handles in order to free transform a layer, and it happens immediately when I click the transform handle. It seems more relaibly produced now than before if I restart Photoshop; if I open PS for the first time I can reproduce the issue every time when clicking to free transform a layer. Once the transform has been initiated (but not confirmed) it happens about one-third to half of the time that I click on a transform handle. 3. I am at work but will generate logs when I return home ❤️

Just to update on this: Unfortunately this bug is NOT fixed in this latest update, it is still happening for me after updating to 25.6 (on top of the other new issues that have been introduced). It seems to happen now mostly when the application has been first opened, however, which is a different behaviour from before when it would happen all of the time. EDIT: Never mind. It is still completely borked. I will be cancelling my subscription for PS as well I think. This is just totally unacceptable. I get that this is a difficult issue to resolve, but it totally destroys the workflow in the application. In two months, it will have been a year left unresolved.

I would tend to agree that this is not a per-user preference issue/hardware issue as @Jqqerry suggested simply because I also find it results from clean install, and on misc hardware...so yes, it is something wrong directly from the default setup (and not related to tablet - as others have mentioned - as plent of no-tablet users reporting it on clean install and misc. hardware). Will try the settings reset hotfix posted above later today and see whether it makes a difference. Sad to see it still not fixed in latest version though, software is borderline unusable still.

That lends credence to @ericman2323's conjecture that people working quickly (and being a little sloppy with it, apparently) run into it most often. Anyone working precisely would likely not see it, regardless of speed, and no engineer (precise to the core!) working carefully would ever be able to reproduce it. To add some more context on this - unfortunately I also find that this makes no difference. In fact, I am able to reliably reproduce the issue with a completely stationary mouse. Regarding bridge, @Daniel Presedo I do not use bridge at all, so it is happening without it at least for some.

Unfortunately this thread is months old and still no fix. We have even moved on from 24.x to 25.3.1 and still nothing. In any case I want to at least push back again on the "it's only 1%." That maybe gives you comfort that it's ok left being not addressed, but as others have noted here, many users experience this all the time on many different platforms. It is a very common problem and not a rare circumstance. It's also across many platforms, so it's indicative of a software issue and not common to some particular hardware. You even have users directly reproducing it here in this thread for you...so it is really frustrating to see that kind of dismissive response to such a major issue. And and others noted - whatever data you need to make this issue go away, users are offering to provide.

> There are probably way more people affected, but I can picture only 1% of us actually sign up to the forums and complain about it. Yes, I am severely doubting this 1% figure. Given the number of reports and the fact that this has been going on for years, that there are literally dozens of threads, and these are only those frustrated enough to take the time to make an account and report it. In any case, it needs to be fixed. It's gone on too long.

Sounds like a lead then: what areas do you not collect? E.g., one thing I note is that this happens on all of my systems, but I use a Logitech MX Anywhere Bluetooth mouse with all of them. Perhaps this is related (i.e., maybe it is a bluetooth issue). In any case - given that I have experienced this issue across 5 different hardware sets (all of them), if the mouse is not the problem, then this is a common issue that has just been neglected and not something that very few users experience. If I can reproduce it on all 5 of my systems, this is a regularly occurring issue. Regarding mouse down - I have never noticed lost mouse down events. It is always losing the key release.

Still having the same issue. Note that this has been happening since 2019, this is not a new problem, reported fixed many times and still nto fixed. I understand Adobe is having issues reproducing it. I think if 3 years is not enough time to figure out, then not enough effort has gone into testing potential causes. I see some speculations here about hardware. FYI I am using MSI GP68 HX. However this issue happens on all of my devices (Dell G7, Dell desktops, HP Spectre laptop). One common thread is that I use a Logitech MX Anywhere Bluetooth Mouse with all of them, so you might try there. However there are very few hardware commonalities that seem to lead to this issue. In any case, I use a lot of different software all on the same hardware and PS is the only program that gives this type of issue.

This bug has been happening on windows since 2021. Reported by huge numbers of people, still happening. Can we get a fix for this? How can this still be happening two years later? Old thread, same issue: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-cursor-gets-stuck-on-transform-handle-in-photoshop-22-5-1-windows-only/idc-p/13903036/page/5#M87211 LOCKED and reported as fixed with people in the same thread complaining about how it hasn't been fixed at all. And it hasn't - still happening on latest install + beta as of December 2023. Please fix this, it is a huge workflow interruption every time it happens and absolutely depressing that it hasn't been resolved in over two years. Most recently it is now also affecting the box select tool, which is a progression to this bug becoming worse and more intrusive that was not happening in older versions. This is not a hardware issue btw. This is a software issue reported over and over and never resolved.

Joshy - Thanks for this follow-up response. However to answer your confusion about the issue - the steps you described are exactly what I did in my example images above. This is a limitation of the way that Photoshop handles alpha channels on export for .PNGs with transparency. I've heard the problem described elsewhere as being because photshop stores transparency and alphas separately. If you open a 4-channel .PNG, you will find in the channels tab that photoshop only has 3: R, G, amd B - and Alpha is treated separately and uniquely. I will note that you you do the same process with .TGA files, however, there is no such issue with the alphas not saving on channel export. Photoshop likes to overwrite Alphas as white for PNGs, and to get it to export transparency as alpha, you have to use a mask as you describe rather than adding an alpha channel in the usual way...however on export, you will find that the RGB channel values are also shifted from their original values. Yet with a .TGA this works as it should, and the 'save a copy' window for .TGA has an additional checkbox which you can select to make it export alphas as the 4th channel, making it a 32-bit TGA. This should be an option for .PNG, but is not. So while you can do texture packing with TGA files, this isn't ideal of course because a .TGA file will be significantly larger than a .PNG since it does not take advantage of the same level of compression you will get from a .PNG. The two aims of packing textures into single channels are (1) to reduce draw calls in 3d software, and (2) to reduce memory usage. By forcing us to use .TGA instead of .PNG, Photoshop essentially nullifies its usefulness in one of these two areas. It's not the end of the world, but I wanted to be clear that this is very much a photoshop problem with how it handles .PNG transparency and alpha and not an issue with the file format or the target software I'm handling the .PNGs with. The fact that it works fine with .TGA also demonstrates this. While you should be able to use an additional 8-bit/pixel channel on a 32-bit .PNG to store an alpha map, photoshop does not support this capability properly and the 'export alphas' checkbox in the 'save a copy' winow is grayed out. Ironically, GIMP actually does this correctly. So does Blender with its compositing feature pack (both free softwares).

Hey there - this is unfortunately not the real solution here I think. I ran into the same issue lately...and was very surprised to learn that because PS uses alpha channels for things other than transparency, they seem to be built into PNG exporting in a very unusual way (I have seen the use of Alpha for transparency described here and elsewhere as "niche cases" but in actuality using alpha channels to pack extra data into a 32-Bit .PNG is very common in 3D modelling and definitely not out of the ordinary - so much so in fact that substance painter has this functionality built in). Part of the issue is that alpha masking in PS used for transparency affects the export of RG and B channels. Here is an export using the method you describe: https://imgur.com/Bko8RSy The only difference between these two is that one was exported with transparency enabled as described above (and same result with all other PNG export methods from Photoshop). HOWEVER, neither of them is actually using the alpha channel in this example: these both simply have RGB plugged into the albedo node in a 3D modelling software, and the Alpha channel output is unused (not plugged into anything at all). So the exporting of 32-Bit PNG RGB data in PS is somewhat tainted by the transparency somehow rather than simply being exported as its own channel packed to Alpha independently of the other three.
