This sounds like a really nice feature, but as a partially color blind person, the old way in which the colors were also labeled with text, was very reassuring for me (and i'm sure the rest of people with this problem). So i guess what i'm saying is that if you guys decide to go this "visual" way, it would seriously need a label somewhere around those bubbles, so that people with (partial) color blindless would know what they are adjusting.

No-one asked for this?!
By @Stephen_Davies
You might want to read what I posted earlier in this thread almost two years ago:
For context, Photoshop had been falling behind in this area. Easy-to-edit gradients have been available in other image editors that I use (such as Adobe Lightroom Classic, but non-Adobe software had also advanced beyond Photoshop in this area), and I am one of the users who was waiting a long time for Photoshop to catch up here. I probably won’t ever want to use it the old way again, because the new way is so much more powerful and productive. This is not to dismiss your preference, you have a right to want to do it a certain way, which still exists. But this is to help explain why it is set the new way. Fortunately Adobe does let you still do this the old way…
The problem is not that Adobe changed it, because they had to change it. If they didn’t change it, that would just add fuel to the many opinions that get posted here that “the Photoshop code base still shows its old 1990s roots through old features that were never upgraded to keep up.”
The problem is that this new implementation of gradients still doesn’t quite work right, there are a few bugs here and there. But it was and is the right direction, they just need to give it the right level of fit and finish.

What I'd look for first - can you check your file associations in Windows Settings? Is PS v 26 set as default application for this file extension?
But do provide the information Claudia is asking for.

Thank you for the prompt response.
The Presets in the location mentioned, "Applications > Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Presets, are installed along with the application. These are not migrated or copied over from one release to the next.
Any user presets saved in the location "Users > user_name > Library > Application Support > Adobe >Adobe Photoshop 2024 >Presets" will be migrated to Adobe Photoshop 2025.
I hope this helps!

In the Properties Panel for the gradient tool there is no Fit to Document or Align with layer options as there is in the Gradient Fill Adjustment Layer dialog.

And now it seems this one was too. I give up. This is not a smart layer issue, this is a mask selction issue.

Hello @ClaudiaR99 -- It appears to be working once I have created a new document. I am assuming the old file would have to be trashed and I would need to work inside a new document before I could see the Gradient Tool output improve? I am currently using PS 24.7, iOS Ventura 13.4.1, RGB file with 9 artboards.

Very cool Claudia. I see we can also swap modes and gradient on the fly as well. I think that most of the people who were resistant to the change, will be onboard when they become aware of those features.

Hi Claudia, you're amazing. Will do. I already have it in dropbox. Apologies as it's 14 gigs. Perhaps I can delete most of the layers and see if issue persists

Hi! Yes, I'm sorry to increase the burden but I have the same issue. As it also slows down PS a lot at the beginning, I tried to deselect the "Libraries Sync" option but unticking it left the same error and even added another message about my swatches not being compatible. I'm using Windows 10 and the very last software version... so I'd be glad if a solution could be provided. Good luck to the devs!

You can reset the photoshop preferences manually, so that way if it doesn't work you can revert to your old preferences.

@ClaudiaR99 why doesn't it esc dismiss a window without a cancel button anymore though? It used to, for example the 'no pixles selected', that didn't have a cancel button in the 2022 version and esc cancelled it fine? Why was that feature removed? escape has worked for years and I push it automatically, seems stupid to make a change to something that worked perfectly well before.

Sure thing! I'm working in 8 bit RGB mode and using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 Something I noticed just right now is that I believe the group gradient is using the whole canvas to adjust the gradient vs when i use the layer it only uses the layers specific size for the gradient. I think that is why it shows the gradient at such a zoomed scale. To match the group to the gradient of the layer i need to scale it down to about 20-30% of the current gradient! I also added pictures showing how the grou gradient stays centered to the canvas even though the layer gradient follows with the actual layer. For me it doesnt matter whether the layer im using is a text or rastered layer the issue is still there!

No, I have not. There have been plenty of problems with the yearly updates, in terms of brush lag and such, that I am not so keen on trying other updates on this particular PC at home, where I paint. I may try it at work one day. Why, is the 2 Gb limit removed in PS 2023?
I don’t know.
But I asked you in post 1 to provide the file – with that I might find out.

Hello, this feature is available in Photoshop Public Beta application. If you are a paying customer, you can access the public beta version via Creative Cloud Desktop > Beta apps. This version will install in its own directory.
For anyone else wanting to try it, there is a free 7 days trial available.
