There is a way to open multiple documents via the book panel, but it's a bit iffy. Select the first document in your book panel, then hold Shift and click on the last document, this way all documents should be selected. Now double click (without holding Shift) on any of the selected documents and all should open. At least this works on MacOS. Closing all documents can be done by Command + Option + W on Mac, this is a system wide shortcut to close all windows of the active program. I don't know if there's a windows equivalent for that.

Yes, but additionally check that your PDF always shows the correct profile as Output Intent and you are always previewing with that profile as Simulation Profile. That should be the case by default when you embed a profile in your PDF.

Your export settings are correct. The important part are the values in the PDF. If you are still seeing 100% black (or whatever other color you're expecting) then everything's fine. Images will get converted, if they had a different profile embedded other than PSO Uncoated, or were even in RGB. This is expected and wanted. So you will see different color values in them, if that's the case. If you absolutely want to preserve color values in images (because they are logos or something similar) you need to make sure they have the same profile as your intended output (eg PSO Uncoated), OR, quick hack: Don't have a profile associated with them (CMYK without Tags). This also applies to vector artwork from Illustrator, so beware!

Then it really only comes down to a display difference between InDesign and Acrobat. Which you can change in the mentioned preference setting. Though you should only be seeing a slightly lighter shade in Acrobat, not brown. Is your monitor set up correctly?

This could be a simple display difference of the two programs. Check the InDesign preferences for Appearance of Black. It's likely set to Display all Blacks as Rich Black, i think that's the default. That would explain why you are seeing a darker color in InDesign. Also, check the color seperation of your PDF in Acrobat via Use print production > Output preview. Are you seeing a 100% black value in your text? You can hover your cursor over different parts of the PDF to get a color readout in the panel.

This is a bit dodgy, but you could create a new character style and just check the No Break option under Basic Character Formats. I use this for web adresses for example. You could then do a simple text search for your dash (^_) and use the replace format funtion of the search field to apply the non break character style. No GREP required.

Hello, i noticed some strange behaviour of the Book Preflight panel. While it shows the current working preflight profile as selected, it will instead use InDesigns [Basic] preflight profile. To actually use your desired preflight profile, you have to open the list of profiles and select it (again). Even though it already shows as selected. To reproduce this error, i duplicated the [Basic] preflight profile, named it "Test Check" and additionally disallowed RGB color under COLOR > Color Spaces and Modes Not Allowed > RGB. I then selected it as working profile in the preflight settings. I then set up a 4 page book file (link to the files below), consisting of 4 seperate InDesign documents, one of them containing an RGB filled object. When i open the books preflight panel, it shows the previously set up working profile as a selected, but won't use it. It will use InDesigns [Basic] profile, which doesn't contain the RGB color check. So the documents all finish checking with no errors. Only when i open the books preflight panel a second time, the actually used [Basic] profile shows up as selected. And when i select my actually desired profile, the check finishes as expected. Some additional notes for the first "phase", when my working profile shows up wrongly as selected: I can click the (already activated) radio button next to it and suddenly the [Basic] profile will show up. If i didn't do the above step, i can use the profile drop down and select my (already selected) working profile, and then InDesign will actually use it. This isn't a new error, by the way. I encountered first in InDesign 2022. I just upgraded to 2025, this time without importing any previous preferences, so i'm now sure this is an actual bug. Link to my InDesign files for testing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/11svsbbmvawdtt2/Book%20Preflight%20Test.zip?st=t042y5tm&dl=0

@Peter Kahreli just tested your script modification, it works! Thank you! @Robert at ID-TaskerThis one's solved, thanks for your assistance along the way. Should any german users stumble upon this thread, you need to change this part from Peter Kahrels fix… if ( curAssignment.name != "Unassigned InCopy Content" ) { …back to… if ( curAssignment.name != "Nicht zugewiesener InCopy-Inhalt" ) { …like in the original from Kai Rübsamen from the hilfdirselbst forum. Versions for other languages should be changed accordingly. It doesn't make sense to specify different input/output folders for this action, btw. Just overwrite the original files, as the linked InCopy assignments get deleted and would show up as missing anyway.

@Peter Kahrel Thanks for the response and fix! While i saw that part on your website, i apparently misunderstood it. I thought declaring the variables via "var", as was done in the script, would be enough. I didn't saw the extra brackets above and below. As i said, my scripting experience is limited and i didn't write that script. I will test again on monday, when i'm back at work. @Robert at ID-TaskerI was just testing with simple mockup documents, one dummy textframe on a blank page, saved as an assignment. When i'm back at work i will test Peter Kahrels fix first, after that i can prepare a package of my documents. Let's wait and see. Thanks for your help!

Checking "Save changed documents on closing" leads to almost the same outcome as above, only that i don't get the first error on a loop, but a flickering progress bar. Apparently the script tries to continuously edit the first file. With "ignore errors" checked the result is exactly like above.

Sorry, i took too long. 😉 There are no opened docs to be closed, the batch converter works by specifying an input folder and gets to work by itself. It works fine with other scripts, so i think it might have something to do with this particular one. Maybe it's not written as "cleanly" or something. I'm no expert at this stuff, changing already exisiting scripts or merging multiple GREP searches to a list is the extent of my knowledge.

Sure: At least one of the assignment files could not be found. It was possibly renamed, moved or deleted. Select the missing assignment(s) in the assignments panel and choose "update selected assignments" in the panel menu, to save a replacement at the same location. Or choose the command "change save location for assignment", to save the assignment at a different place.

That depends. With these settings… …i get the following error on a constant loop, needing a force quit of InDesign: (at least one assignments file couldn't be found) Though the assignment file of the first document will get deleted on my hard drive. ------ If i additionally check "ignore errors" in the Batch Converter settings i get this error: (there are no documents opened) This quits normally and no files were touched on my hard drive.

So, some time later i've made some progress. I actually found a script to clean documents of InCopy content on this (german) forum: https://www.hilfdirselbst.ch/foren/InCopy__icml-Verkn%FCpfungen_per_Skript_aufheben_P537065.html#537065 I don't know if this will work on non german InDesign versions, as it refers to the german spelling of "Unassigned InCopy Content" of the assignments panel. So i made a quick translation, i can't test if this will work though: // all assignments in document
var allAssignments = app.activeDocument.assignments;
for ( var i = allAssignments.length-1; i >= 0 ; i-- ) {
// the current assignment
var curAssignment = allAssignments[i];
// alle content of the assignment
var allLinkedStories = curAssignment.assignedStories;
for ( var j = allLinkedStories.length-1; j >= 0 ; j-- ) {
// the current content
var curLinkedStory = allLinkedStories[j];
// the link …
var storyLink = curLinkedStory.storyReference.itemLink;
// … unlinking
storyLink.unlink();
}
// delete assignment
if ( curAssignment.name != "Unassigned InCopy Content" ) {
curAssignment.remove();
}
} But this has at least solved the first half of my problem, cleaning a document is only a single click now. Sadly, this script won't work with Peter Kahrels Batch Converter, so i still have to open each document manually.

Web Application means you need the output to be in RGB, correct? Did you set InDesigns Blend Space for the document to RGB via Edit > Transparency Blend Space?

If the image in Photoshop has a black background and the foreground elements are set to Multiply, the effect should work correctly in Photoshop because the black background is solid and doesn't interact further with the layers. By @Eugene Tyson That's true. But as the question was about transparency, i'm imagining the black background was placed seperately, both in Photoshop and InDesign.

I'm guessing the transparent part is set to multiply blend mode in Photoshop, correct? That setting won't get transferred to placed images. To get the same effect, you'll need to place two instances of the image right on top of each other in InDesign. 1) The top one just containing the text (use layer options to disable the reflection in InDesign) 2) The lower one just containing the reflection (again, use layer options), this one set to multiply in InDesigns Effects panel. 3) Group both objects to move/resize them in the future. Use the Overprint View in Indesign to confirm if it works.

This would be essentially the same as copying a linked story and unlinking it afterwards in the new document. That's what we're doing at the moment. I'd like to strip all InCopy content from our documents in one go after the issue went to the printer, if possible.

Hello, i'm looking for a solution to unlink all InCopy stories and delete all assignments from an InDesign book after production. Because we might reuse a portion of the content in other publications, which leads to a few challenges… a) We might have to change the textflow because of different font stylings in the other publication, but of course want to keep the original unchanged. b) It trips up designers who don't pay attention to the Assignments panel, as copying assigned stories to a different document hides them in the "Unassigned Content" region of the panel. So they are wondering why they can't edit the text. We have our publication set up as one double page spread per InDesign document, so multiple designers can edit different parts of the publication, all collected in one InDesign book file for the whole issue. Opening each page and manually unlinking/deleting all InCopy content would be tedious. Is there a script or other method which would help with this? Thanks.
