Hi Anubhav. I have tried it in safe mode, and spent some time opening, saving and closing files. I'm afraid the problem is still there. Surely I can't be the only one experiencing this?

Hello Anubhav Sync is enabled (although I am only saving to the mac's hard drive). I have granted full disc access to Indesign. I only have one user account on this mac. Not sure what you mean by 'new files'. If you mean a file that I created this morning and tried to open this afternoon then that would a yes. The only thing I have yet to try is running in safe mode. I shall try this tomorrow. It would be good to know if my files are really being damaged or if I need to not worry so much. This is a large job for an important client and I can't afford to screw up here!

I am frequently getting this message when opening files in Indesign:  I have the latest version (20.2), the computer is a new M2 max, and these are all files I have created myself. They are stored locally. I have tried exporting as IDML and resaving, but the proble keeps coming back. Is InDesign really corrupting my files or is this a false message which can be ignored? Prompt investigation of this would be apreciated please Adobe.

I have personally overseen thousands of pounds worth of perfectly serviceable equipment being thrown in a skip, several times in fact. Maybe you don't remember Illustrator 7?

Fine, but what if I need to re-install the older version?

So when I said that this is a warning that a forced upgrade is 'just around the corner' I was absolutely correct, yes?

Only certain macs can. Mine is not one of them.

It's not a case of updating the OS. Ventura only works on the new Mxxx macs, which cost a hell of a lot of money. They haven't even made an imac 27" model available yet (correct me if I'm wrong), and are still selling Intel machines. So not only is this a bit premature, but it looks like once again we'll be throwing perfectly servicable equipment in on the scrapheap. So much for saving the environment.

I'm in exactly the same position. My mac is very quick and adequate for my needs. I can't possibly afford a new one. Adobe seem to be doing many deeply unpopular things lately. I'm just waiting for the grim message of death: "this software requires a later version etc" which I reckon is just around the corner.

This was a long time ago! I have updates set to automatic and so will always have the latest version installed. The OS is 11.6.2 now. The client has since discontinued publishing books and therefore no longer needs my services. That was the only time I was asked to change the cross-references after index generation so I can't say whether it would have affected any other documents. I thought I'd explained quite clearly what the issue was, without filming it. As I said at the time, I had to fix it by doing the whole thing again and so can't show you another example with both types of cross-references in it. I'm quite disappointed that nobody gave this any urgency to be honest. I had no idea that anyone had replied to the comment I made above either. All I can do is let you know if it happens again, which might be never. regards Terence

All apps are up to date. Not really sure what you mean about the video. How do I do that, and how long is 'short'. These indexes take hours to do! It;s an InDesign book with over 30 chapters in it. Anything else I can provide you with? Terence

I'm afraid not. The deadline was today, and the only way to fix this was to go through every chapter, delete every cross-reference and put them all back in again. Both versions were in the Index list though. For some reason it's treating the corrected ones as new ones. But I'm glad it's not just me!

Hi That's exactly the way I've done it, and I haven't seen this before. This is what I'm getting:  I can't even think of a workaround. I can't just delete the unwanted ones, as this will be going off to different publishers and translators after we've finished with it.

Hi all I'm doing an index for a large book. I have made cross-references that begin with 'See also' Client has asked me to change them to 'see also' i.e. in lower case. I changed them using the custom option. Now when I generate the index, I get the new lower case versions PLUS the old ones. I've no idea what to do to fix it. any ideas anyone? Is it a bug? The deadline is getting worryingly near!
