Hi Tom, thanks for the info. It's very useful but for a layman who doesn't have the skills to find his way through the many options and make the right choice is not easy. I'll try to summarize my doubts. The colors, palettes, themes to be used for use on the web (screen) proposed by the various online tools, even those from Adobe, are in RGB. So, how do I combine your suggestion to use an sRGB profile for graphics intended for the web when the samples are all in RGB. That is, when I identify a color or a pair of colors and exclaim Eureka, will those colors transferred to Illustrator and converted to the sRGB profile most likely change appearance? Added to all this is the need to obtain the same result achieved for the web for printing on paper using the CMYK profile. Can you please summarize a guideline, workflow to adopt when the goal is to manage the color of the logo so that the resulting colors have the same appearance on the screen and on paper. Many thanks A PS: Tom, I am even more confused, if that is possible.... First, I followed your suggestion and set the working color space to sRGB. Then I checked the settings of the open document and, as you can see from the screenshot it is correctly set to RGB. Is there no sRGB option here? Then I found that illustrator has the “Proof Setup” feature to allow you to run color proofs showing how the colors will look in different color profiles. Opening the option I found it set to CMYK. In this use case, since I am choosing colors for the web I will have to which of the following options should I select “Internet Standard RGB (sRGB)” or “Monitor RGB”

The settings come from tutorials found online, according to which sRGB can be replaced by RGB especially when the monitor you are working on has a good 98/100% compatibility with the greater range guaranteed by RGB. "Preserve Embedded Profile" means that if I open a file not created with the color profile set in color setting, Illustrator will keep it? However, I have flagged the options to decide whether to leave the embedded profile or update to the work area profile. So, I do not risk altering files with different color characteristics but I can update the color management when needed. Can it be done better?

So, the color panel shows only allows you to select colors that are in the RGB gamut. Right? Using numeric RGB values, you can't enter a color that is out of gamut?

@Jacob Bugge Thanks to both of you for your support. Please confirm that the following reasoning is correct. 1) After opening the post I changed the default settings in Color Setting. The screenshot shows the new settings. 2) I created a new file with the RGB color profile, see screenshot below. I chose a sample color, the first from the left. The color panel shows two alerts represented by two icons for each alert arranged on two rows. Questions related to point 2: In each alert, the first icon on the left indicates the type of alert?, The second icon shows the preview of the color proposed by Illustrator? Does the alert on the first row concern the sRGB profile or the RGB profile? Is the alert on the second row related to the RGB or CMYK gamut? 3) I copied the sample color into the file with the CMYK color profile used to design the logo. The color changed becoming like the 2nd color on the right. So, this should answer the question related to point 2 i.e., the out of gamut warning is referred to the CMYK profile even if it appears in a document with RGB color profile? But if I set a color that goes outside the RGB gamut, does illustrator show a specific warning? Many thanks A

I'll start by saying that I'm a beginner. I'm looking for suggestions on best practices for setting up the workflow for designing a logo for use on the web and for traditional printing. In my specific case, I'm facing a problem regarding colors. To decide which color or colors to adopt, I take inspiration from the colors and examples available on the web. So, RGB colors. Questions: 1) How do I convert RGB values to CMYK while preserving the color chosen in the RGB profile. 2) Illustrator warns when an RGB or CMYK color is outside the Gamut of the set profile. I also get the same warning with the RGB profile and the Web gamut. So, what should I pay attention to and how important are these warnings?

The test was done with a shape created with the shapes tool. With the shape filled with white color, in preview mode + CTRL+E the white is no longer visible. I tried with a red fill and when I select CTRL+E the fill darkens a lot but does not disappear. Is this normal behavior? Also, in CPU mode the zoom go to jerky.

Hi, supplementary note and summary. I followed the suggestions found online to configure the video card but I don't notice any differences between before and after. As for the view (rendering via CPU/GPU) I noticed a difference that is partly nullified by the disappearance of the filling. Let me explain. By activating rendering via CPU the filling of the shape disappears and the path (the path) does not split as it happens starting from a medium-high level of magnification with rendering via GPU. Is this behavior normal? Many thanks

Your question gives me the opportunity to introduce another side of the same problem, or so I think. Let me explain the context in which the request for help was born. The image marked with the number 1 shows a partial view of the artwork I am working on, namely the larger shape. Below you can see the smaller shape, the rectangle created to test the problem that appeared in the artwork. In preview view the artwork has the same problems as the shape created to replicate the problem. In outline view mode there are small differences in behavior between the artwork and the test shape. Let me know if you are unable to zoom in enough to see the details.

I tried the CTRL+E shortcut but didn't see any changes in the shape. Note that the imperfections in the preview are also visible in the image showing the full shape. That image was taken at a zoom level sufficient to fill the screen.

Tom thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure I understand your questions. "What is your Zoom percentage?" - The detail images were taken at the highest possible zoom level. "Are you using CPU or GPU Preview?" - Your question made me discover the View>View usin GPU option. I'm a beginner and I don't know many illustrator options. I tried to activate the option but I don't see any differences and unlike what happens with the other options, I don't see any flag or indicator to confirm that it has been activated. "For precise positioning, do you use Smart Guides?" - Yes, smart guide is activated.

For this test I created a rectangle using the shapes tool. Even at full screen resolution you can see that 3 of the 4 sides, excluding the bottom right side, have anomalies. The other images show an enlargement of the individual sides. This problem interferes with precision positioning when multiple objects intersect. How can I fix this?

Hi Jacob, in point #1 you say to type the character 4. The character "4" of my use case was created by tracing a font with the pen tool. The same operation was done for the other font that intersects with the first. Then I used the patfinder tool to intersect the elements. In the end I obtained two distinct objects. My level of familiarity with the pen tool, from 1 to 10 is 1.5, so please do not ask me to draw the elements again. I attach a screenshot that shows a composition similar to the result I need to achieve. I'm sorry if I couldn't be more precise. In previous posts I said that I want to assign the transparent color to the space highlighted also in the screenshot below because I want to be able to adapt the image to any background color. Many thanks Arturo

Sorry, but I think I failed to explain my use case. If I understood your instructions, I need a background to implement them, but in this case the graphic object, the number 4 and the green element that intersects with the main object do not have a background. What you see in the screenshots is a canvas space outside the artboard. Look at the image below. It is similar to my composition. Look at the empty spaces at the intersection of the "p" and the number four. This is what I am trying to achieve. Thanks for your time Arturo

I am a beginner in using Illustrator and have no graphic design skills. What I did I chose a typeface, the number 4 and traced it using the pen tool. I used the pen to create a second element. I used the Patfinder tool to intersect the two elements. Since I need to have a transparent space along the intersection path i.e. the two objects should have no contact points, I increased the thickness of the stroke to create the separation. Unfortunately, despite research I have not figured out how to change the fill color of the stroke from white to transparent in order to create the gap space effect along the perimeter. Can anyone point me to the steps or an online tutorial to achieve the goal Many thanks Arturo

I will try to explain. The following screenshot shows what I get if I replicate what you have shown with your screenshot. I created a rectangle and applied a rotation to it. As you can see, the result I obtained is different. Maybe I did something different from what you did?

Hi Roberts, thank you for the explanation, however, you can see from the published screenshots that the problem tile had a 90 degree angle. When I solved it by replacing the background tile, I tried rotating it to verify your suggestion, but I could not replicate the same problem. Before replying to you I tried again but could not replicate the problem. I have little experience with Illustrator, maybe I am wrong, but I don't know how to replicate the problem I encountered. Problem that I have been dragging around for a while because it has happened to me before. Any ideas?

No, I do not remember rotating the group, but I replaced the background rectangle and the problem disappeared. However, I did not understand why it disappeared. Knowing the cause would prevent me from repeating the same error. I assume it has something to do with the rotation? Thanks

I hope this other information can help. The gap between the line running parallel to the image is variable. In the video you can see that starting from the top right-hand corner and going down, the gap narrows.

I think I did not understand the question, but I will try to answer it. Is everything snapping to pixels? By @Monika Gause Regarding the ‘Snap to’ options, I have only activated ‘Snap to point’. I enclose two more pictures showing in detail what I see when I select the individual object. Tile 7, the one with the yellow background, when selected, the selection border leaves no gaps. This does not happen with tile 13 (the one with the green background) when it is selected. See screenshot. And then you are trying to also snap to the objects? By @Monika Gause Yes, join the 3 rows of tiles by eliminating the gaps between them.

Can someone explain to me whether it is possible to intervene on the element highlighted in the screenshots as it interferes with the precise positioning of the object. When I bring the object closer to the target point the snap to point feature attracts the point outside the perimeter line. I have numbered the images for ease of reference If it helps I can share the file if you remind me how to do it.
