@J453 a little more research indicates that the sfc should have replaced a corrupted msvcrt.dll file.  This problem did occur when I upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Would installing visual studio from a link here perhaps fix the issue? ... View more

@J453 thanks for the advice! I am trying. I ran the system file checker outlined here after running the DISM tool. The file checker did confirm that corrupted files were identified and replaced. I restarted and attempted to start Photoshop again, but it crashes very soon after startup.  Not exactly sure how to replace the msvcrt.dll directly, but wouldn't mind some instruction on that. So now I have to drag the preferences file out EVERY TIME I start Photoshop. It crashes each time I do not do that. It's a bit of a nuiscance to have to drag the file out, restart Photoshop, and recheck basic things like "zoom with the mouse wheel" every time I want to use a program. Any ideas? @Sameer K  ... @Sameer K update: Seems the only way to reliably start Photoshop is to remove the preferences file before each startup. Works on the first startup, but if I try to restart Photoshop without removing that file, it crashes. Bizarre? Is it a clue to something?
