After Effects: Duplicating a composition in the Project Panel uses all of the existing pre-compositions nested within it, and does NOT create secondary copies. The ways around this: 1. Duplicate the main comp and all of the relevant pre-comps; manually swap them out. (No fun!) 2. Use True Comp Duplicator. 3. Save each instance as its own AE project. (Also no fun!) The BETTER way to approach this is to make use of Essential Properties. You can use these within After Effects to create template elements for Premiere ... but also to create instance-able elements directly within After Effects!  More info here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz8gqGsuVGU  This may help address some of the Premiere aspect of your question as well. I found the root of the problem! (I think). I removed a layer which I had used a rotobrush on and it seems to have fixed the problem tentatively. I'm going to stop using the rotobrush tool for now and look for another solution (probably keyframe with masks, although I am not looking forwards to that).    However I still want to know if there is a solution or specific problem causing the glitch as the rotobrush tool is quite a useful one. ...
