If the images are different PPI/resolution, but the same pixel dimensions, you can reset any transforms in the properties panel for placed linked or embedded smart objects:

I think I would start by importing the DWG line work into a new document that was set up in metrics. I'd probably import the artwork in its original 1:500 size as well to ensure it imports at the correct size. Then I would use the Transform>Scale command to blow it up to another scale the better fills the page. After that I would copy it via the clipboard to a 11" X 17" document set up in inches (if I wanted to move it over into a document set up in inches).

Is there a way to change the size of artboard used when importing a DWG or to detect the size automatically? I am also trying to figure out a way to batch apply layer settings to an imported DWG. I'm currently importing each DWG to its own artboard and the line settings should be global. Thanks By @Charlie329572228uvxSkydiving in Manali Hello, @Charlie329572228uvxSkydiving in Manali Here's a solution based on the information from my knowledge. Changing the Artboard Size When Importing DWG Files To change the size of the artboard when importing a DWG file, you can follow these steps: * Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document with the desired artboard size. * Go to File > Import > Select the DWG file you want to import. * In the import dialog box, make sure to check the "Use Artboards" option and select the appropriate artboard size. * Adjust the scaling options to ensure the DWG file fits the artboard correctly. See here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/change-default-import-artboard-size-orientation/m-p/13044048?form=MG0AV3. Batch Applying Layer Settings to Imported DWG Files To batch apply layer settings to an imported DWG file, you can use the following approach: Create a new document preset with the desired artboard size and layer settings. Save this preset in the Illustrator settings folder (e.g., C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 26 Settings\en_US\x64\New Document Profiles for Windows). Import the DWG files using the preset you created. Use the "Global Colors" and "Global Swatches" to apply consistent layer settings across all imported DWG files. See here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/batch-dwg-import-and-layer-properties-edit/td-p/14580599?form=MG0AV3. I hope this info is helpful to you. The right margin (which is usually the right edge of the text box) is only one factor in determining how far text will flow. If, as in these examples, the right alignment is set by a tab, the tab has to be moved over to move that lineup.
That is, you can have a right-aligned tab up against the right margin so that they are the same thing, but (1) you can't set a tab any further to the right than the margin, and (2) moving the margin does not move the tab. Does that make sense?
This is very basic stuff, more or less the same in any word or layout app. Maybe this ID help topic explains it more clearly:

Have you just update InDesign to v. 20?
Try resetting preferences anyway.

Hi all, sorry for the delayed response and thank you for all of the assistance in trying to identify this mysterious bug. I am guessing the issue is related to the unlicensed font, which was provided to me by another student and probably works ok in Word/Canva but not InDesign. I haven't tested this theory.

You need to insert Tab after the colon, then in applied ParaStyle add right align tab at the right position and set the Leader.

I have a Revit project with a lot of curved geometry and DWG exports have much better linework quality than the revit vector print. I can bring the DWG into illustrator to easily verify the quality is much higher. But, I lose all of my line styles, as they get imported to AI with the CAD default colors assigned to the layers, requiring a lot of extra work to select layers and change the color back to black, etc. I am wondering if I can import the DWG plans into illustrator and somehow automate the process of changing how the layers display. Thanks for any thoughts By @Charlie329572228uvxhpinstantink Hello, Importing DWG files into Adobe Illustrator while preserving layers and line styles can be quite useful. Let’s explore a few approaches: Direct Import into Illustrator: You can use the Open command in Illustrator to directly import the DWG file. Illustrator will convert it to an Illustrator-compatible XML format. However, this method might not preserve the layer information as you’ve experienced. To try this, go to File > Open, select your DWG file, and see if it meets your requirements. Batch Conversion to PDF and Import: Convert your DWG files to PDF (using “DWG to PDF.pc3” plotter) from AutoCAD. Then, import the resulting PDF file into Illustrator. Make sure that layers are activated for export in the “DWG to PDF.pc3” settings. This approach should maintain the layer structure and allow you to work with the vector linework in Illustrator. Combine DWG Files into One PDF: If you have multiple DWG files, combine them into a single PDF (using software like Adobe Acrobat or other PDF tools). Then, use a script (such as the one mentioned in this Stack Exchange post) to open the combined PDF in Illustrator, with each page becoming its own artboard. Remember to test these methods with a sample DWG file to see which one works best for your specific project. Good luck, and I hope this helps! Best regards, Florence Gayhart

I don't think it should be necessary in this case. It's essentially one layer on top of another with the first one being masked out. You would only need the knockout settings if you're trying to punch through multiple layers in a group or through the entire document. And even that could be worked around by masking a group layer.

I'm not quite sure I follow your steps, but —
A style named Title will affect all paragraphs it's applied to, as long as there are no overrides, either spot formatting or Character Styles. (This gets a little tricky if you use sub-styles like GREP or Line formatting within a style, but I suspect you're not.) Put the text cursor in each example of Title; the Title paragraph style should highlight in the list, with no Character Style also highlilghted and (most important) no + mark on the end of the Para Style name, indicating an override has been applied (local color, size, spacing, etc.)
Select the one instance of Title you want to tweak. Duplicate the Title style with the + icon at the bottom of the Para Styles list. (Yes, there are too many '+' signs in this app! 🙂 ). Select the new style, name it Title_Paper or equivalent, and make whatever change you want to it. Save the style and make sure it's applied to that instance with no overrides etc.
Title_Paper should now follow Title in all respects (changes, etc.) except for those further changed in Title_Paper.
Be sure you are changing the actual paragraph style, not one applied to a text frame. They're not always quite the same thing.
Check back if that doesn't work right for you.

When a text frame is overridden it becomes a page item. From the parent page you still have control over the attributes of the frame that have not been changed, but the frame’s text is disconnected from the parent.

I don't use built-in DataMerge mechanism - prefer to write my own solutions - but in order for the object on the page to be updated after changing it on the Master - this object needs to be overriden from the Master to the regular Page.
And I don't think you can update objects overriden from different Masters? Overriden object have only one "origin" - if you change Master applied to the Page - how InDesign can know which object from the new Master should be linked to it?

You cannot.
The alternative is to use the New plugin, which is part of the (free) abracadabraTools: https://www.abracadabrapdf.net/utilitaires/utilities-in-english/abracadabratools_en/
