Same issue on Windows11, fast SSD, taking 2 minutes to save a 3Gb file with ~12 layers. In performance monitor nothing is over 10% utilisation (CPU, disk, GPU, memory) so I have no idea whats going on.

Just wanted to chip in and let you know you're not alone, your experience sounds identical to mine. The UI in lightroom has been a repainting slideshow hot mess since LR6.0 for me (Non CC). As you report, CaptureOne is lightning fast for everything, I switched a few years ago and keep checking in on LR to see if it's improved, and, sadly, it seems to be getting worse. My issue is the UI feels like it's running at 4fps. It's so sluggish to move around the program. Actually making edits isn't that bad but the application itself is bogged down. I've rebuilt my PC 4-5 times over the last decade and every time it's the same. Currently a Ryzen 9 7950X with 64gb RAM & SSDs everywhere and it's still useless.

Tone is tricky on the internet, so trust me when I tell you this is good natured - I'd love to see a technical write-up of exactly what was causing this and what was done to resolve it; for one it's fascinating and as a bonus, given the length of this issue and the hair-tearing nature of it for many of us, it'd be really insightful to get a glimpse into what went on. Hopefully legal can sign off on something like that!

Win11 Pro, Generator disabled. PS 25.4.0, Xencelabs tablet. Windows ink has to be on or else pressure doesn't work. It's absolutely at its worst when using the Quick Selection Tool, where I barely ever get the brush shape and just a pointer, it's absolutely frustrating. Absolutely losing the will to live with all the bugs in the last few years, it just keeps getting more and more frustrating getting through a workday 😕

I'm having this problem on the latest PS and Xence tablet, it's driving me mad. Unfortunately it seems like a recent windows update completely disabled WinTab, so windows ink is now required - as a consequence a whole raft of things are now buggy/horrible to use. It's a complete mess.

Was there any advance on this? Wintab (UseSystemStylus 0 in userprefs) is now broken for me in Windows11 and Windows Ink is a complete trainwreck full of horrible little glitches. I don't know if it's Microsoft or Adobe to blame, but my workflow is shot to hell right now, and I'm stuck for a solution.

Did you get anywhere with this? An update has forced on me and now I'm forced to use Windows Ink which, either on the behalf of Adobe or Microsoft, is a steaming mess. Having extraordinary trouble working with it, it's shattered my working speed completely because of all the minor glitches 😞

I'm getting odd lag in the crop tool and lasso tool that are hard to pin down and very annoying, and in dialogs that require you to hold down a button (some plugins, for example) they don't work properly with Window Ink. Whether it's Microsoft or Adobe at fault, who knows, but I wouldn't rate it as "Fixed", but perhaps "Less broken". I did also switch to a Xence tablet, whether that makes a difference over the wacom I couldn't say 😕

OK after an hour or so I realise that windows ink is both laggy, and interferes with "tap and hold" options and modifiers. Yeesh. This should not still be a problem :'(

Noticed no pressure sensitivity this morning after updating, and found myself here. I was previously using Windows Ink OFF in my driver, and useSystemStylus 0 in my user preferences, as I have been for years without thinking about it. However, removing my user prefs and enabling windows ink returned pressure sensitivity, and I found myself unable to remember precisely why I had turned windows ink off in the first place maybe 5-6 years ago. Is anyone able to tell me why not simply leaving windows ink turned on isn't suitable, as a quick play arund didn't reveal anything problematic. (Xence medium tablet, latest drivers, win11)

Just to add I was getting the error with my Wacom, but I *do* have Logitech mouse installed on the system. It was also present for me in v22/23 but resetting preferences several times finally put it to bed. Very odd.

The folders collapse, the brushes appear to be saved normally - I did have one vanish but this may well have been me juggling backup files whilst trying to diagnose what's going on. Still seeing the problem in the November update. I have deleted and recreated my Workspace file and reset prefs to no avail. Base64 decoding the data portions of the workspace.psw file doesn't yeild anything exciting, either. The only thing i could diagnose is that it's palette id="31" with respect to the workspace file structure, but the state of the brush preset folders within the palette must be stored elsewhere.

Indeed - I checked the apps in proected folder access too, but Photshop is already there. Just like the lag in the save dialog, just more cracks in the plaster. I do wish they'd go a year without a new feature and just tighten all the screws 😞

I have a workspace saved, this does not appear to influence anything. Photoshop is not running elevated normally - when I tested as admin there was no change, the brush folders are still in a collapsed state when reloading Photoshop.

The state of the Brushes panel appears to "reset" each time I load photoshop. I have several folders of brushes, and they are opened and set to whatever I'm working on. When I reopen Photoshop, the brush folders are collapsed again. Steps taken: - Reinstalled Windows - Reinstalled Photoshop 25.1 - Reset preferences - Started with empty Settings folder In all conditions this behaviour is manifest. A friend checked on 25.0 and did not see the issue, I would appreciate if anyone out there could Repro as I'm flat out of ideas at this point having completely rebuilt windows and reinstalled photoshop! Bit of a thread Necro, but today after an update my brush panel "Reset" in that whant I loaded PS, all the brush groupings were collapsed instead of expanded... It didn't unload the brushes, just closed all the groups (Which is incredibly annoying). Has anyone else seen this in the latest 25.1.0 Windows ?

That's somewhat re-enforcing my point. If I don't select it, toggle it, slide it, input it or otherwise define it, it's not a user preference, it's Adobe's business, and shouldn't ideally be tangled up with the _user_ preferences. Extricating the two would be of great benefit to those of us stuck resetting preferences on the regular.

The thing that nags at me, is the preferences should be a collection of user designated tickboxes, integer values, and in some cases bitmaps (Patterns, shapes). If some combination of settings produced an interaction of code that resulted in a buggy outcome, one would expect to see the bug every time the same options were selected. This however is not the case - you can have the bug, clear preferences, put everything exactly back as you had it previously and voila, no bug. What this suggests to me is that Photoshop is storing something else in the preferences, cache data, network data, what-have-you that is NOT the result of a user making conscious selections, but in fact Adobe caching or creating something behind the scenes. A bit like the Windows Registry ended up being used and abused beyond its intended purpose. In a roundabout way what I'm saying is that it'd be nice to have some transparency from Adobe on exactly what else is being stored/created in the "User" preferences that we do not as users control, and ideally if it could be done *somewhere else* with a "Clear Cache" like option made available, so that we are not trapped in a cycle of tediously re-setting-up our workflows each time we upgrade / update / get to work. Updating Photoshop should be an exciting and productive experience, not one that fills every working professional with dread.

Updated to 25, reset preferences, sticky tools. But hey, at least we can spuriously generate 1024px squares of samey looking AI content that our clients won't use! I'm so tired. So tired. This one is a production stopping bug, it's impossible to work, and yet the pile of half baked tools builds and builds. Please. Nothing new for a year. Just fix your application and tie things back together again, it's becomming an incoherent mess.

Could be a language issue as I'm prone to those, but forcing a user to reset a complex application's preferences, which affect muscle memory, workflow, and all that other good stuff, shouldn't honestly be considered acceptable practice, and I completely empathise with users who are frustrated by it cropping up time and time again. I use a tool called Directory Opus, it's terrifyingly complex in its settings and customisation options, vastly more so than Photoshop. In 20 years I've never once had to reset it after an upgrade caused some issue. That's why I refer to this as a silly workaround, it simply shouldn't be necessary - Adobe know what they're changing and should have a robust migration path. As an aside if the user preferences are merely a reflection of the selected tickboxes a user has interacted with within the application, it shouldn't be accumulating data (My file was 9.9mb!) in the way it seems to. Perhaps internally it's become like the Windows Registry, who could say other than the Adobe Devs? Either way, a reset worked here. the fact it was required remains a bone of contention 🙂

Resetting preferences is a silly workaround that shouldn't exist - However it's worth noting that this DOES appear to resolve the issue, which should help Adobe narrow down what's causing it.... Ever the optimist.

Followup: My Adobe Photoshop 2023 Prefs.psp file was 9.99mb (?!?!) so I deleted it and reloaded PS - The problem appears to have disappeared (For now) but of course, I now have to spend time re-establishing my tool and program settings. Gnnngh. You'd think with "Reset your preferences" being such standard fare these days they'd actually implement a meaningful way to export and import them 😕 Will report back it if rears its head again.
