Can someone from Adobe explain why there are 14 processes of adobe running while all my apps are closed? And what is this ressource blackhole you have created?? I don't get it, why adobe is doing everything possible to piss off costumers: A 32gb laptop costs an arm and a leg and you just highjack all of that memory? How many UI helper do you need exactly?

Finally got the solution after installing reinstalling like ten times. I went into the registry Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.psd Deleted the 3 folders in there: OpenWithList, OpenWithProgids, UserChoice. Restarted the PC, then went into file associations and manually added photoshop to open the PSD files, since it wasn't there by default. By the end this reg entry should look like this instead of the "photoshop.26"

You are correct, I've found thread on reddit from 2022 about this same issue. Adobe is that kind of corporation...gimmicks and price increases for nothing

Dont get me wrong, my rant wasn't against you. Obviously. Its about adobe, The pre 2016 trick worked for me. My issues is that you even need to do that in a software owned by a company that makes billions on our backs and has a quasi monopoly on the market. They introduce gimmicks and mostly inefficient AI marketing bs while ignoring the stability of their products. I've left lightroom for capture one years ago, left Premiere for Resolve and now I am happy to ditch this scam of a company for Affinity or any other software.

Got this problem right now. The fact that I need to check an option for pre 2016 gpus on an RTX 4070 says a lot on adobe's work...I have more than enough from all this company and its [cursing removed], from the subscription [abuse removed, to the very poor soft optimisations, to the price increases.

Ok, I will redo what I already did, doing it live now. - I uninstalled the 2024 version. -Now I installed the 2025, I've launched the application Windows shows empty file association. I select that I want to use photoshop 2025 (just installed it) - Double click on PSD, it opens photoshop 2025 - Now trying the open context with capture one pro. the windows popup is back and it asks me which application I want. I select, always use photoshop 2025. - Now Uninstalling photoshop 2025 from Creative cloud manager -Installing Photoshop 2025 from the creative cloud -Opening photoshop 2025 again -Launching capture one and using the open with command from the context menu. Same result (see screenshot) windows asks me to select the app -Uninstalling photoshop from the creative cloud -Installing version 25.12.1 (photoshop 2024) -opening the file via capture one. Working as intended. Conclusion: sticking with my actual version, I just have 2 months of subscription left anyway. Note: the registry entries are pointing to the correct path every time with both versions: 2024 or 2025

After these years this bug is back again for me. Can't use any version starting from 2025. I am stuck with 2024.12 or older. The update simply breaks the file association, tried to reinstall, remove everything, install again, I also tried that registry change but for some reason there was nothing to change, it pointed to the correct path for the 2025 version. But when I choose open with from capture one and select photoshop 2025, a windows popup asks me to choose which application to open with. I select photoshop 2025. the file opens without any issue. Then again if I open another PSD, after confirming the association, windows asks me again which app would you like to use? Reverted back to 2024.12 and all is working fine again. By the way, even double clicking on a PSD file gives me that same popup when photoshop 2025 is installed, but no issues with 2024.
