Is it at all possible to have a script pull Lab color information from any swatch or object in Illustrator? I'm specifically trying to write a script to compare Lab color information between two different colors. I've run across the renderSwatchLegend script, but I can't seem to get it to display in a UI instead of rendering to an object. I'm not much of a coder, mostly am trying to use chatGPT to make this. Any help/direction would be appreciated.

I have recieved this error twice today. It seems to prompt when switching to a different program, then coming back, when having a text field selected. Running macOS Sequoia on an M3 Max. AE v24.6.3

Did a bit of playing around in Davinci Fusion as well. I seem to get the same resulting halo effect. It seems like getting the Frischluft plugin might be the only option as of now to achieve the results you are looking for. I'd be curious to see if widening the range of white and black values on your Z-pass would change anything? Or instead of having a such a stark transition on the edges would make any difference? Not neccessarily blurring them but having something in the background so the Z value isn't 1.0.

Not sure if you've checked this plugin out, but I've used it in the past at a different agency and it worked a lot better than AE's built in filter. Specifically on not giving me that halo effect you described. Personally, I don't think Adobe will ever change this. https://www.frischluft.com/lenscare/index.php

I have the same issue. I have a layer with a mask, scale keyframes, and now i cannot select the layer itself. Only the mask. Running AE 24.5.0 on Mac OS 14.5 on MBP M3 Max. Honestly thought i was doing something wrong for the longest time since it seemed intermitent. But now this pretty much confirms it. It doesn't seem to happen all the time however. I just tried to reporduce it with a simple 2 layer project with solids and masks, but it frustratingly didn't occur. Was trying make a screencapture. 😞 Closed AE, rebooted. No change. Once the project is done, I'll trash the pref.

I've had mild success with After Spell from aescripts. But it's still not a great solution compared to a native, built in, spell checker. I hear you, I am baffled why this hasn't been a priority for Adobe in After Effects for years.

I feel like I might be screaming at a brick wall here, but for the love, spell check for After Effects PLEASE. Yay that it finally, sort of, came to Premiere, but for those of us who animate text for a living, having to type everything out into a word processor then copy and paste into AE is an insane workflow for the year 2023. There are scripts that sort of do the trick, but they aren't live in any composition or you have to actively monitor every time you type something to see if it is incorrect (I'm talking about displaying the little red line underneath something that is incorrect). Even something like the InDesign spell check would be nice.

A native, built in feature would be nice. The script linked from aescripts is a nice step, but it isn't quite 100% accurate and you have to select each comp to "scan" for errors. Not great if you have many, many comps and many, many projects.

This is kind of what I was afraid of. We have recieved the correct STD fonts, we just don't own them, unlike the PRO versions. We have also started using Extensis's Connect Fonts which seems to be a lot better than FontExplorer in determining which fonts to activate. Was hoping to just see if there was possibly a better solution than having multiple versions of the same font, but it doesn't look like it. It's just weird why these foundries/font sellers push the PRO versions when it only seems the STD versions are ever used. Thanks for your insight.

It is basically a select number of fonts or font families that we are finding from certain clients that come to us that we finalize before sending to print. We figured buying the PRO version of the font families would cover us for any kind of variations. But it seems like most, if not all of our clients or other agencies use the STD versions. This is odd since sites like MyFonts exclusivley only provide the PRO version (or at least their customer rep said). I kind of figured that there isn't any built in conversion feature with Illustrator or others. Not sure if there are any scripts or plugins out there that can help before residing to re-purchasing all of the fonts again to ensure we have the STD versions too.

Right, I understand. We have a font managment system in place. The problem is we have ONLY the Pro fonts licensed and available. A lot of times we get files with STD fonts missing when opening and have to go through and manually replace the STD fonts with our PRO ones. I'm asking if there is a solution out there to do this automatically? Like if a STD font is missing, it will pick the PRO one. According to font suppliers, the PRO version is identical to the STD except the PRO has more language support.

We have purchased a ton of fonts a couple of years ago from fonts.com and they all downloaded as LT Pro fonts (i.e. Helvetica LT Pro). A lot of clients will send us documents in Illustrator and InDesign with the same font, but with the LT STD version, but even though they should be the same style of font, Adobe programs force us to manually replace the fonts everytime when we open a new client file. Is there a feature or even maybe a plugin somewhere that will bypass this issue somehow. If we were to have the LT Pro version of the font installed, and open a document that has an LT STD font in it, it will auto replace or just accept that font since we have to Pro version? After a couple of years having to replace fonts with the same thing every once and a while its getting tedious.

Thanks John, It does work for v23.1. However, I'm still evaluating 2023 for plugin compatibility and haven't started fully using the new version (I noticed this one isn't backwards compatible with earlier versions so that threw a big red flag). There was an update for year 2022 titled v22.6 which I installed as well. That update DID NOT fix the issue. Any chance more updates will be pushed to AE 2022? I still use that most of the time.

Any updates on this issue being resolved? Updated to Ventura on a 2020 Intel i7 iMac a few weeks ago and am running AE 2022 and this bug has been quite annoying and adding quite a bit of time to my workflow.

Looks like it's working properly with version 23.4.2. We had this issue on a MBP M1 Pro for a while, hadn't heard anything on this thread, so I just checked it today and it's working.

I deleted all Photoshop preference files using the above method and even did a fresh install of the latest version of Photoshop. Still running into the image resizing issues. Did not see it when i only resized to 105% though, but doing that several times isn't good workflow. I did have "Deactivate Native Canvas" checked and unchecked, the glitch still happened. I then disabled Use Graphics Processor in the File Handling section. Then it resized just fine, just took a while. The fix is ok for now (not ideal), but would this have something to do with Apple's unified processor/graphics chips?

Tried with this setting disabled. Still can't resize image without corrupting it. This happens when I use Image Resize and enter a percentage to make it bigger. Running Photoshop 23.3.1 on MBP M1 pro 2021 and MacOS 12.3.1 Works fine on Intel mac with same PS and OS versions.

I don't know if this will work for you or not, but I have had luck with turning on the Optimize File Open and Save Time for Slow Networks option in the File Handling preferances in Illustrator. I was going crazy trying to figure out why AI kept crashing or booting my off our Synology NAS almost everytime I tried to save a file or export to images. In the past this preference was detrimental to our workflow and seemed to corrupt files, but now with AI 26.2.1 and on a MBP M1 pro running MacOS 12.3.1 it actually helping. Can't speak to everyone else on an iMac with Intel chips though, doesn't seem to be affecting them.

Just wanted to add to this, I am aware of the "Fold My Design" script in C4D, but it takes quite a while of prep since most dielines are broken up into individual pieces. Mostly looking for a fast alternative to Origami.

I am wondering if there is an Adobe solution to turning a custom dieline from an art file in Illustrator (not always a simple box or carton) into a textured 3D obj? I have only found an obscure beta program where this might have been played around with in Dimension. Our workflow currently uses Origami (a plugin that creates folded boxes/cartons based on a dieline in Illustrator) as an intermediary between Illustrator and C4D (our rendering solution). Is there some way to use Dimension or maybe another Adobe application instead of Origami? Dimension is nice and all, but I feel incredibly limited in what you can do, but I may be wrong. It would be nice if there was even a solution/plugin for C4D, but haven't come accross anything either.
