Yes, this is more or less what I do, by applying Acrobat 4 standard (it flattens transparency and pictures in the similar process as I would flatten them manually). This one works, but generates some lines, and I have seen the case when there were some areas missing on print. But it works just ...ok in 99% cases 😄 I will check the approach with exporting pictures directly to Tiff or PSD, as existing PNG converted to Tiff haven't changed anything.

That's correct. Phis PDF is digital product I'm preparing and I have zero control over end-user habits. They are non-knowledgeble about printing, and I can't make them use Acrobat. I know they sometimes use only mobile device for printing. I need to ensure this file is failsafe for this exact reason.

Musze jeszcze podziałać nad tym, nie wyszła mi konwersja do Tiff, ciągle zapisują się PNG. ALe sprawdzę jutro na pojedynczym pliku Tiff czy robi różnicę 🙂

So after extensive testing to check many of your tips, i found out, that this problem occurs only on one computer on Google Chrome. Printing from Firefox or both browsers on different MacBook works just fine. I migrated files as a package between these two MacBooks back and forth and no discoveries here. Since my goal is to make sure the file will print properly on all devices, I have to continue troubleshooting. Unfrotunately simple conversion from png go png didn't help, and I didn't manage to test conversion to Tiff files yet, but will continue trying tomorrow. Thank you for your help so far!

Yes, I'm aware of that, which is why I haven't even considered PSD, since even TIFF seemed to be oferkill.

Hej, dzięki za podpowiedź! To z której strony radziłbyś to ruszyć?

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply! These illustrations are created in the drawing application “Procreate” and never go through Photoshop. It never occurred to me to use PSD. I was considering TIFF, but it seemed like Overkill at the time, given the weight of the assets and my needs. The goal of these PDFs is to be as versatile and easy to print as possible. People will print them from their phone, computer, browser, email client, etc. Rarely will anyone be more knowledgeable about printing. They will always be RGB desktop printers. That's why I decided to choose compatibility with an older standard (Acrobat 5 or 4). I've solved color conversion problems before, but never heard that PNG might not be a good choice. This is an ongoing learning journey for me 🙂 I am wondering what to do now. I already have pretty much the whole setup prepared. I can't export and set all the assets from the ground up, it will probably take a few days. I can: - Experiment with other Acrobat standards, e.g. Acrobat 7, as someone recommended in another comment, and if nothing works, I will eventually stay with Acrobat 4, which works for almost every user, just leaves those lanes (flattening artifacts) - Convert in Photoshop all those PNGs to TIFF by running them through Photoshop automatically, and they should be able to be relinked in one go. What would you advise?

Ok, that's clear now - Illustrations are being created in application called Procreate. Then I export them for InDesign. Almost all of these have transparent background so I needed format handling transparency. PNG seem to me as the most suitable considering the purpose and populatiry. TIFF seem to be overkill, as every asset would be heavier. I already fixed munch issues with color conversions and management, but never heard that PNGs are not a good fit for this purpose. One other thing. How are they being printed? By @BobLevine They are supposed to be as universal and easy to print propoerly as possible. People will be willing to print these from mobile devices, desktop, browsers, email clients etc. Always on desktop printers (RGB) That's why I decided to follow some older standard (Acrobat 5)

Yes, sorry, "Acrobat 5". I wIll check later today, when will have an access to the printer. My goal was to create PDF's to be maximally compatible with home devices and printers. THat's why I figured out using older compatybility will be the best, but perhaps I'm wrong, and Acrobat 7 can have better/wider compatybility? Is there somethoing that I should know about , like this "Not using PNG with transparency" in Indesign? 😄

OMG - I'm terified - I started over the whole process, including exporting all the images again in sRGB, and found no sign of such a tip/recommendation/requirement. Is this some general rule, or some issue with InDesign? Won't PNG's work at all? Every kind of Tiff should work correctly?

Hey, I have a problem I have difficulties solving on my own. I prepare file in Indesign, keeping everything in sRGB IEC6... 1. Export PNG files with transparent backgrounds from Procreate 2. Place them in InDesign (linking) 3. Indesign is set up for sRGB IEC6... 4 Then I Export to pdf using sRGB IEC... as an ouput (embeding profile) I wanted to try using Adobe 5 format compatibility, to avoid downsides of Adobe 4- lines and dividing pictures to triangles, as I observed at least one printing result where printer lost parts of the images. For most of them, these lines resulting from flattening are only visible on screens (something I still would like to avoid if possible). Also, clickable table of contents would be great. So I exported PDF file with Adobe 5 compatibility and received such result on two different printers. What can I do to avoid lines, fractals, and have clicable ToC and not end up with black PNG backgrounds? Have I done anything wrong? All help appreciated!

Yes, but for the moment I need to divide this one file info sub-products I believe the easiest way will be do create copies and delete obsolete pages in each file. I bet coping pages to new documents won't work as I use parent pages etc.

Thanks for your answer @James Gifford—NitroPress ! Let's define my ebook, as printable pdf in rgb. No fancy features here - just sections to automatically set headers thanks to section markers (I use section marker as a header contents on parent pages) and automatic page numbers. I then export it to PDF. From your message I assume that I would have only one way to have ease to maintain the full file as a whole and have easy way to import one unit with it's own numbering - dividing my units/sub-pdfs as files in the book. And the book would constitute the full file. I haven't checked the book topic yet, I have to check if you can easily separate one unit and pages would start from 1.

Hello, I have one large ebook with sections (chapters). I would like to extract these sections (chapters) as separate ebooks. I want the pages in such a partial ebook to be automatically numbered starting from 1. What is the simplest way to do this? I was considering making a copy of the file and deleting all the pages that are not part of the current chapter, but maybe there is a better way? I need this Complex file to be a source of truth, as I plan to introduce changes to it and re-generate these separate one-unit ebooks from it. Sub ebooks don't need to have Table of contents. I could almost use exporting specific pages to PDF, but I have automatic numbering that should start from 1 in every sub-ebook.

@Willi Adelberger Yes it would be my bet as well. I thought it should work without overriding/braking connection. But do you see any other solution to the situation: I have Parent A with Header style that is included in Table of Content I apply Sections to document to define units and In Parent A I placed section marker as content of Header. Now every unit have correct header (thanks to sections and section marker placed in contents of Header on Parent A), but none of these unit titles are included in Table of Contents, as they are connected to Parent page. How to include them in ToC without soft-breaking header?

Hello, I'm building document in ID and have specific question I couldn't address myself: I'm using Paragraph style to build automatic Table of Contents. Some pages in my ebook doesn't have place for Header, or any other text, because they are full-page picture. How can I still include title of such page in ToC? Let's say it will just say "Poster" My idea for workaround is to place some white (invisible) header undernath the poster, for ToC to cath it, but perhaps there is cleaner way to do that? Any tips?

My bad, I was testing text update - content of frame is disconnected, but any changes of frame position work as you described. Works 101%. Thank you! It also addresses my other concern - as I have this header on all pages in unit, I was concerned that I will have to differenciete style of paragraphs - first one in the unit to be included in ToC, and subsequent ones to be ommited, but since I have to soft break the one I want to include in ToC, I no longer have to worry about duplicates ❤️

Thanks @Willi Adelberger - I paired this with section markers, so there was no real content on parent pages indeed, but these variable headers still were not included in ToC if they were connected with parent. Disconnecting headers worked as per Eugene's recommendation. Thank you for all the tips!

Thanks @Eugene Tyson , it worked! It got completely disconnected though. Do you think it is bug? Because as for feature it is not explained at all. Ragarding the second question - do you think there is a better way to include in ToC page without visible header, than to create invisible header? Use case: I'm creating book that includes some full-page posters, and i would like to have this poster included in ToC. I wonder if I should create white(invisible) header beneth the poster or this is not recommended?

Hey, I have a problem - Table of contents does not include Headers defined by Parent pages. I set up document with a couple of parent pages, containing headers, that shall be included in Table of contents. Unfortunately, none of headers placed thanks to parent page are included in ToC. If I insert standard text paragraph next to the one applied by parent, and asign the style that should be included in ToC - it works (such a header will be included in ToC). I set up section markers but this doesnt seem to change anything in problem - if I create a header outside of Parent page, it will fetch Section marker as the one from parent page, but the independent one will be included in table of contents, and parent-placed one not. Any tips how to solve this? Additional question - if I have pages with no place for header, but would still like to have this page included in table of contents, with some title, can I just add White title at the bottom of such a page, and include such a paragraph style as another Lvl1 to be included in ToC? Ir is there a better way?
