I was having a similar problem as  others.  I tried everything including setting the affinity.  Sometimes it would work for a while but the it would fail by just freezing.  Then I was trying to edit with Microsoft Photos app, and the same thing started happening -- system freeze without warning.  This suggested that the problem might be with the Nvidia display adapter.  I have Nvidia GeForce GTX1080 ti.,  I opened Nvidia Control Panel, and under 3D settings, I selected Manage  3D settings.  Scrolling down, I selected Threaded Optimization and turned it off.  This affects threading just as setting affinity does.  It appears that this has solved my problem. ... I had tried all the various fixes found on line, but my computer still would freeze  either when opening a file or when  using the mouse to access a tool or other item.  It turns out that the problem was a low battery in my mouse.  When I replaced the battery, no more freezing. ... View more
