I wish I could report all is well, but it's quite the opposite. I'm in the middle of editing a large set of holiday photos (one at a time), and today alone I encountered this damnable bug at least 15 times. With each occurence, it means breaking my workflow, saving the file, quitting PS, and then resuming. A huge time-sink when everything is extremely time-sensitive. I have not yet looked at the comments about Adobe Bridge, that all settings there are set to default as I do not use Bridge whatsoever. I've reset the ACR presets a few times, purged the cache a few times. NOT helping. Is 10 gig enough? Do I need a lot more? This is beyond maddening. --------------- Current versions: Windows: OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631 PS: 26.1 ACR: ver 17.0.0.2048 Raw cache: 10.0 gig, aimed at an internal SSD (LOTS of space). Hello everyone, After ensuring that all drivers, apps, Win11 updates, have all been confirmed to be up to date, I followed the steps above to reset the ACR prefs. I did not do a complete uninstall, system clean using the Adobe tool, and then reinstall. I still have PS Beta on the machine in a parallel installation. Result? STILL getting the original error I reported; i.e. the problem still exists... I have an extremely heavy work schedule, 4 major projects I need to edit and deliver ASAP, so a complete, clean reinstall is a huge chunk of time I'd prefer to not have to do right now. Comments/ideas please? Thanks!!

Thanks, AxelMatt. I had done a system clean with a tool from Adobe, and the other steps to wipe PS. Hoping I don't have to resort to doing that again, now that I've just done a reset of only the ACR prefs... Thanks!

Apologies - I reset all prefs, but not specifically ACR. Just did the reset, and will report back if that helped or not. Question - when I answered "yes" to the dialog about resetting the prefs, I was then shown a general ACR settings dialog. I did not adjust any of the default values. Is that what should have happened next, vs. simply returning to PS? Also, in ACR there were settings I had made that had to do with importing RAW files (from Nikon), but it's been a very long time since that was done. Making that set of changes way back correctly managed some import issues (but can't remember what those issues were). Hoping I didn't break something else as a result. Thank you again!

Hi Ged. I've actually done this a few times, and still get this very unwanted behavior... Happy to try again, but lacking confidence that this will cure the problem. Have you actually encountered this behavior? And if so, did resetting the prefs help? Thanks for responding!

Hoping someone can help. I have a new machine (7 months old), 64 gig memory, 10tb across 3 internal SSDs, Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K 3.20 GHz, and so on, so it's reasonably fast. Running Win 11 Pro, scratch disk on a separate volume from boot disk, lots of empty/available disk space. All updates current to now. And yet - I consistently, irritatingly get this PS error (cannot open ACR) - a lot - if PS has been running for sometimes only 5 minutes, sometimes after 1/2 hour, sometimes 2 hours. Sometimes I can edit 10 files in a row, sometimes PS chokes on the first file since it was launched. Quitting, relaunching PS resets the "clock" until the next time the error happens. After rebooting PS, the same file can open ACR, no problem (it's not the file). Doesn't matter how large or how small the file is. Running PS version 25.11.0 (Release). I also have the current PS Beta installed, which also runs into the same error. This also happened when I had removed the beta. I've uninstalled and reinstalled PS, I've reset my prefs, all to no avail. Can someone help? Anyone else seeing this? It's random, frequent but not predictable, and a huge interruption to work flow! Thanks in advance!

Hello community, hoping you can help me understand something that should be simple. I have an image that I shot, and in PS rotated it to be level. This produced edges that are blank, and I need to use generative fill to "fix" these (screenshot attached). When I select the checkerboard (empty) "triangle" on the left edge, I cannot get generative fill to actually fill this in. If I try to use generative crop (see the left margin line that shows where I need the final image's left edge to be), the result fills in the area beyond the rectangular image frame, so the triangular section is still blank. I've tried flattening the image, removing the margin lines I use for croping guides, etc. No joy. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but various tutorials I've looked at haven't helped. Hoping someone can give me a step-by-step, explain-it-like-you're-talking-to-a-slow-idiot explanation on how to get this filled in and working. (content-aware fill is not the answer, btw). Thanks for your help!!!

Thank you Alan. In the Nikon world, I've always used an 18% grey card to bet the WB, and typically set that in the Nikon NX Studio app, if I couldn't embed that in the files in the camera during the shoot. However, this was a live show in a small, extremely crowded restaurant, couldn't get up to the stage, and wasn't sure what a reliable grey even looked like. The lighting was quite wonky, and heavy heavy blue (fortunately didn't vary much), so the keyboard seemed like my best approach.

Hi Trevor - I sampled the exact same area you did for the white point (circled in green). Additional info: 1. Shot with a Nikon Z9, neutral profile. 2. I'm editing with the most current version of PS, 25.9.1 (updated 4 days ago, roughly). 3. Not sure what version of ACR I have (not sure how to find out). 4. Will also see if there's a way to determine what my current Nikon Z9 camera profile is, in my system. I'm not sure how to update this, if that step's required. If you happen to have a link handy, that would be greatly appreciated. 5. The NEFs were not touched by any Nikon editing apps, pristine going into ACR (and no matching JPGs in the NEFs folder). 6. If I open the resulting TIF in PS, and use the white eyedropper in a curves layer - that works, so at least I have a workaround... Many thanks! PS - good luck getting "American Pie" outta your head. Now I've got that wonderful song in mine as well LOL!

Hello and hoping for some help. Shot a concert that had very dark light, and very skewed color. Images were Nikon NEFs, which I then converted to DNGs via Adobe ACR/enhance (noise reduction); which produces beautiful results BTW. I now have a collection of DNGS, and want to set the WB via ACR/eyedropper tool, using a closeup of a keyboard's white keys. Unfortunately, even with this dark shot, I can't set the WB, and instead the error message "The clicked area is too bright to set the white balance. Please click on a less bright neutral area). The image is NOT overexposed. (screenshot with image attached). Hoping someone can offer a working solution for this. Thank you!!!! Jerry

Hello all, I have a large set of photos from last week's amazing Aurora. I manually bracketed exposures by various shutter speeds, not knowing what the ideal shutter was at the time. I was shooting with the camera aimed straight up, using an 8mm fisheye, so there was no way to look at the back of the camera during all this (all shots were triggered remotely). I now have a large collection of images that vary between -3 and +3 stops relative to the ideal frame (determined after having a chance to review). Is there a way to normalize all the shots so they're the same matching exposure? All were shot in RAW, but wondering if there's a way to even out the exposures with TIF versions? Are there any tools in PS to help smooth the varying exposures out to be approximately the same? Trying to do this by eye is impossible. All shots were at the same ISO and fstop of course. Thank you!

Hello, I have what should be two identical shots of a very complex and historical double-neck guitar. One was shot with lighting with a dark background I want for the final result. The lighting and staging were quite complex. Call this my FINISHED shot. The other was shot with lighting that is bright enough that I could create an extremely exact "master"selection (using pen tool, etc. this took a few days to create). Call this my REFERENCE shot. This is a one-of-a-kind instrument, things have to be extremely accurate. So, I have my perfect, master selection created, looking great. Problem is - somewhere between the first and second shot, my camera must have shifted slightly, the master selection from the REFERENCE shot does not match the FINISHED shot. There seems to be some rotation as well as horizontal/vertical shift that happened. No idea what happened, and I no longer have the guitar in my possession to reshoot. Said differently, I cannot get the FINISHED to match the selection from the REFERENCE' shot. It's almost impossible to get a reliable selection from the FINISHED shot, there are places where the contrast between background and guitar is almost null. I've tried using PS's various tools from the file/automate menu for getting the two layers to line up, nothing works. If I load the master selection (marching ants, etc.), then I cannot nudge the dark shot into place to match, since moving the layer also moves the selection. Is there a way to force the FINISHED shot to conform to the REFERENCE'S selection? The only thing I could think of would be to create a new separate transparent layer on top, have the desired selection outlined and then start tweaking the FINISHED shot's layer until it conforms. Not excited by this approach, hoping y'all have a better approach. PS - the selection is not just off by a few pixels horizontally. There's some rotation that becomes apparent very quickly as well. PPS - added 2 shots with mismatch between FINISHED and selection shown in red outline... Thank you for your help!

Hello all. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this (and if there's a fix). I'm drawing a path around an object (harmonica) for an extremely precise cutout. If I zoom in and then rotate view, the path I've been creating disappears (no longer visible, but still there). Hide/unhide doesn't help. This seems to be when I've used the 'R' (rotate view) tool, and I'm some angle other than default. If I reset the rotated view back to default, my path reappears and I can zoom in as much as I want. And, if I'm zoomed in, and then rotate the view, the path disappears again, forcing me to work with no view rotation. Is this expected behavior? Win 11, PS 25.5.1. Thanks!

Hello all, I am editing an extremely hi-res set of product shots (harmonicas) that need to be cut out with great precision. While defining a path around the object, there are small but important rounded corners. These are small enough that the path's anchor points are very close, even when zoomed in to the pixel level. (I realize these small features won't be visible when far enough back, but client is also requesting hi-res detail shots). Anyhow, it's sometimes hard to distinguish path corners from path anchor points. Is it possible to assign the corners (or the anchor points) a different color to help sort these out when doing fine adjustments? Many thanks!

Thank you, Richard! Waaaaaay back (years ago), I had a massive boatload of PS droplets that did my branding. The problem was, those didn't scale to match the dimensions of the source image. So, like what I'm dealing with here, if I had 3 different crops/aspect ratios, I had to guess which droplets to use for each version of the target file. And many times, I still had to manually tweak the placement using PS. This got even uglier depending on if I wanted to include the copyright © symbol (commercial vs. portraiture preferences), and what size the watermark needed to be. It's actually a huge hierarchy of hoops to jump through. For now, I've spent the entire day creating PNGs for the 3 different sizes, along with defining watermarks and presets in LR - for just one point size version of the brand. And YEAH! It shouldn't be this hard. Most of today's time (waster) could have been avoided if we were simply allowed offset values when a watermark is centered. Offset this the same way that right/left edge options are... OR - provide a much larger value of offsets from the right/left edges!!! Thanks for weighing in!

Some updates for everyone (thanks for your suggestions). First - a clarification: I'm using a PNG that has our bug. Following the above suggestions, I created a new PNG that was simply wider (same height), with the actual graphic on the left side, and blank transparency to the left. I also max'd out the horizontal offset in LR to help push the resulting watermark as far from the right side of the image as possible. My default placement for all our watermarks has alwasy been bottom right corner, or centered vertically, also on the bottom of the image. Problems: 1. Since I'm keeping the PNG size option "proportional" enabled, this means the final look of the watermark shrinks significantly as I keep adding blank space to the PNG to push the watermark further away from the right edge. This makes things impossible to manage as the absolute distance between the watermark and the right edge of the image varies significantly, because of the next point: 2. I need to produce 3 different crops for the set of images I'm trying to release. 8x10, 5x7, 16x9, since the client wants all 3 versions for various reasons. Normally this would be a no brainer if the bug was always in the center or right corner. But - the resized/expanded PNG that works for the 16x9 fails for the 5x7 as the watermark is now close to the image center. Even worse for the 8x10. I really don't want to have to create 3 separate watermarks, trying to figure out the right amount of blank space to get this to all work for the resulting versions is a real PITA. The alternative is to manually watermark these in PS, but that's not overly attractive either. I'm spoiled by LR. Normally I just "export" and out pops the image+watermark perfectly, now or 3 years from now. This problem prevents that nice bit of predictable "automation". I stopped doing manual watermarks years ago, b/c LR was a goto predictable solution. Until now. Hoping someone who knows this stuff better than I seem to can help. And... my client's clock is ticking. Thanks, everyone. PS: Just added the three files (with the recipient's name redacted) so you can see what I'm talking about.

Hello, I'm familiar and comfortable using the watermark editor to control where my watermarks should show up while exporting an image. Problem - I have a request from a client to place the watermark a bit to the right of center for a specific set of images. Roughly 1/3 of the distance from center towards the right edge. And for the images they're talking about, their request is cosmetically correct. The images will be viewed by a national audience, so it's critical to get this right. The problem: If I opt to use "center" in the watermark editor, there is no option to offset from this. If I opt to use right edge, the max offset is still not nearly close enough to push the watermark towards center. The image is 16x9, so there's a very wide gap between center and right edge. Is there any other way, in Lightroom Classic, to have more control on the watermark placement? Thanks! Jerry

Short version: Stupid mistake... After rotating an image using image->rotate->arbitrary, and then doing some extensive work - is there a way to determine what value/angle the image was rotated by? I've done too much work to start over. Long version: I have a set of about 25 unique images, all shot exactly the same way, same settings, etc., on a camera locked down on a tripod. The shots were with a trophy on a pedestal, and five people on either side. The people gave me new facial expressions after each click. The shots are at night with a glowing cityscape in the background, so really need to keep everything registered. I started working on the first shot, and needed to rotate it as it wasn't quite level. Did some substantial work (making/saving selections on the trophy, using some AI to fabricate a pedestalfor it, etc.) before I realized I hadn't measured/remembered how much I rotated this, so the first shot is now at a different angle the rest of the images. The angle was around 1.4 degrees, but I don't remember the exact amount. The first image was rotated using the ruler measuring tool and "image->rotate->arbitrary angle". The plan is to use the work done on the trophy so it'll be the same on all the remaining shots. I need to apply the exact same amount of rotation on all the subsequent shots so that they're back in registration with the first corrected image as these will likely be combined into an animated GIF. Is there a way to determine the exact angle the first image was rotated by so I can apply that same value for the remaining shots? Thank you! Working in Win10, PS 25.3.1

Hi Trevor. I've isolated the bug. I spent some time carefully making prefs changes, one at a time, closing and relaunching PS with each iteration. After removing the settings folder, launch PS. Problem does not show up. Then, in prefs, make the changes corresponding to the attached screen shot. Close and relaunch PS Beta. Boom. And no need to even zap the settings folder. In Prefs/General, just reset the prefs when quitting is sufficient to get back to the pristine state. Relaunch PS, behavior is fine until the changes below are made.

Hello all. Some weird and totally unusable selection behavior with the latest beta: True for lasso, marquis, quick selection tools: making a selection is impossible. Where I draw (mouse or pen+tablet), the marching ants are significantly offset (e.g. 1/3 of the image away). Prior versions of the beta worked as expected. If I use "select subject", that works correctly. It appears to be related to drawing the selection. Also when the image first opens, it's also offset to the left and upper quadrant (see attached screenshot). All things work fine in prior beta versions. All things work fine in the most up to date version of PS (released) I uninstalled and reinstalled the beta, weird behavior persists (although I did not remove prefs). Windows 10 is current. Attached screenshot of newly opened image, and sys info txt file.

Hello. Realizing a lot of explosive development has happened since last spring - it is possible to now import a photo (I own the copyright), and use text-to-image with it? Crucial example: I have a close friend about to be inducted into a national hall of fame (keeping the organization anonymous). I want to create an image of him as a wizard, with a mixing board in his lap. I don't know how to import the photo and have Firefly build up the image around him. There's a sense of urgency - he is fighting an aggressive cancer. Hoping you can help please... Thanks.

Hello, I'm trying to learn the finer nuances of creating a stack, with layer alignhment enabled. I just created a stack of 50 images. Most were perfectly aligned before creating the stack, as these were shot when the camera was in its final position. the first set of images were shot when I was adjusting the camera position, looking for the right sweet spot. After stacking with attempted alignment enabled, there's one layer that's off a good 50 pixels or so. While I can manually nudge it into place, I would prefer to have PS do this for me. Is there a way to "declare" or somehow tag which layer is the reference point in PS, and force the non-aligned layer to conform to the reference layer? The reason for asking: 50 layers was a test case/proof of concept. My real data set is around 160 files, of which some 30 or so are not aligned due to me seeking the sweet spot to shoot everything (i.e. adjusting the camera position on the tripod). Working in the most current PS beta in Win10/64 (also current). Thanks!!!!!

Right - that's a tool I'd forgotten about. Still blown away and glad for the explanation of the unbearable slow save times. Back to my original question: filesizes of original vs. exported layer do not match. Any insights on why this is, and is there any change to the actual image content (guessing this is a metadata related behavior)? Thanks!

This is quite shocking to me. At no point that I can consciously remember did I opt to ZIP these. That's something I've never included in my workflow ever, over the last zillion years. This also explains the insanely long save-time required... <shaking my damned head 'til it hurts> Good to learn something here, even after 20+ years w/PS. Question: Besides using either "save as" or "save a copy", is there a way to force the file to unzip itself when hitting the save button? I have an entire folder of 140 files that I've been working on, each taking 3 minutes to save, which was just driving me cwazy and eating up so much of my time!!! I need to get these all unzipped so I can continue working. Hoping there's a script or action (if the latter, probably using save-as) to get this systematic mistake corrected ASAP. Thank you for catching this <shaking my head again!> Jerry
