Can you start a new thread and share more info - what platform, OS and InDesign full version?

As this thread is several years old it might be better starting a new one. Include your version of InDesign and OS and how much RAM and spare hard disk capacity you have.
Does InDesign crash when you save a file or when you export to Reflowable ePub?

Assuming you have the correct system specs and this is happening when you try and open any file (it's not just one corrupt one), it might be worth using the Adobe Cleaner Tool to remove all of the application and do a clean install. https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Hi @viktoriap59157741,
Sorry for the delay! Are you still facing this issue, or did the expert suggestions help? If not, try using bookmarks instead of "Go to Page" and link your buttons to "Go to Destination." Let me know the update.
For the hyperlink option being greyed out, ensure a text frame or object is selected before creating a hyperlink. If it persists, try restarting InDesign or resetting preferences. Also, for the back arrow issue, test the file in Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro, as some PDF viewers don’t fully support interactive navigation.
Could you share your InDesign version, Windows OS details, and if possible, your file for testing? Also, check out this discussion for insights which might help: Go to Page or Section in Interactive PDF.
Looking forward to your update!
^

I did several years ago and was provided a polite "We're looking into it." Whatever that means. But yes, you are correct, this has to be made by Grammarly, not Adobe.

@BryanPS
A few notes on Jpeg: Jpeg files have compression applied, changing resolution or cropping and re-saving enhances the compression artifacts - this means that Jpeg is only really suitable for final file delivery/transfer - with the Jpeg created only once size and resolution (and any sharpening) have been completed. So, Jpeg is far from ideal for editing and not OK for archiving or for any file that may need to be resaved, resized or cropped down the line. Jpeg is the worst possible format if you want to keep high quality - you should always archive a copy of your original, ideally with any adjustment layers intact - if you work with layers. Jpeg compression (at any setting*) really is "lossy”, irreversible, and cumulative, so Jpegs should ONLY be used only for final delivery and only created from the original file format AFTER resizing & cropping to the FINAL size and crop. To explain: any edits to size or crop, or even just re-saving a Jpeg file means further compression, potentially that’s very damaging. The JPEG compression damage is not always immediately apparent, which is perhaps why it's still widely used - however, that compression will soon cause issues if you do further work and save again. That’s when you’ll see a Jpeg with some real issues. *don’t imagine that selecting maximum quality for your Jpeg is preserving the original data, it’s still compressing a lot which discards information. SO, don’t reuse Jpegs if any resizing or resaving is needed. Always go back to the PSD/ Tiff originals, Jpegs are essentially a 'use once and trash' file type. I hope this helps

When you compress images during InDesign export, the type of compression can, sometimes, make a big difference, depending on the type of drawing. For line art, if I remember correctly, "Nearest neighbour" can give much better and sharper results than some of the other settings. Worth playing around with a little more. And obviously, if there's any way of using vector art rather than bitmap, that would also save a lot of space.

If you're unable to launch Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, try restarting your PC and updating the Creative Cloud desktop app. Ensure your antivirus or firewall isn’t blocking it, and try running the app as an administrator. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall Creative Cloud to resolve potential conflicts.

I had the same problem on my Mac mini M1 (sequoia), although I could install from a download from Adobe on an older Macbook (Sonoma) and did not find a solution until a later post in this thread. suggested downloading the free trial, from the App store which installed and is working. Elements also seemed to find my Adobe membership, once installed.

I stumbled upon a workaround... Reset your workspace to "Essentials" and the annoying bar goes away. Then open up all the tool panels you usually use, and save that as a custom workspace. Enjoy the additional screen space you used to take for granted before this annoying 'feature' was added.

As Derek says, and to pile on here, reflowable EPUB is the only remaining valid e-book format. It's imperfect, and it's under perpetual (and very slow) revision , which can be maddening when all the players aren't on the same page, but all of the other formats are long obsolete and for good reasons.
But MOBI, even though being the ancestral source for Kindle, was fully deprecated almost two years ago, and good riddance. (Caveat: last time I looked, which wasn't recently, there was still one niche upload model that accepted it, for the "facsimile book" category, IIRC.)
Not quite sure why you're asking here, since MOBI has never been a part of the InDesign workflow. (Unless it was an option with the long-ago, long-dead beta plugin?) But then, there aren't any reliable sources of information on Kindle issues, so if you're an ID user, this is the place to start over. If your background is mucking around with MOBI and conversions and multiple "builder" tools and such, you'll find the InDesign to reflowable EPUB path far more efficient once you master it.
This is an old thread and the info may be outdated; I am going to ask for it to be locked. Start a new topic on any further EPUB issues and questions you might have.

Vertical spacing at virtual page tops is wholly at the discretion of the reader implementation, and as you've discovered, using the proportional units don't work on some great majority of them.
The only way to get consistent "chapter heading" top spacing and the like on a majority of readers is as I noted:
Rule-above spacing to provide the effect in InDesign, with space-above also defined for export (verify and/or add in CSS);
Page break before in InDesign (verified and/or added in CSS);
Split document at export time, based on 'chapter head' style or equivalents.
Any other combination is likely to fail or be selectively implemented in the readers. There is redundancy here; while rule-above spacing is the only method that works in the InDesign layout, and space-above is ignored, it's the other way around in EPUB: the rule above is nulled out, while the space above defines the spacing as long as it has a hard page break to "push against."
The page break is also mostly for InDesign but adds to reliable interpretation at the reader level.
And most readers allow page-top spacing only at the start of a new document... which is why you need to split each chapter (etc.) into a new internal XHTML doc to assure the effect.
That one step or stage or reader or another might ignore a setting doesn't mean you can omit it from the whole process. 🙂

Many (if not most) interactive features have become a bag of hurt, due to fact that there's so little (and even decreasing) support for the various kinds of interactive output InDesign is capable of exporting. It's not so much about how all these features work, but in which export format they might work ! It's crucial to first define and decide which kind of distribution and/or platform you're going to use.
More and more technical barriers are rising, to let PDFs perform any Java-scripted interactions (only plain hyperlinks and some form fields and options might work). While ePub Reflowable has been very successful for many decades, ePub Fixed Layout never gained any traction from the industry to manufacture or develop hard or software readers for it (only Apple supports it). Adobe's Publish Online (not Share for Review) works quite well with interactions and even animations, but simple visual stuff like transparancy and shadows seem to be tricky (I haven't checked for 2 or 3 years...) The recently added Export to HTML5 promises a lot (did Adobe finally acquire in5 plugin or what ?) But you know: I don't trust any of it anymore...
Maybe that HTML5 thing is the solution you should be looking for, judging by your example. 😄
So the question actually is: are your viewers willing and capable to download a file and maybe some better app along with it to open it, in stead of using their browser or simple standard or free viewer ? Or do you want them go to a website and view it online ? Do they have a Mac or an iPad ? Is it just for setting up some display in a trade booth or shop, and are you in total control of that device ? These questions (and the answers) define which distribution(s) and file format(s) you're going to use. And then you can decide and design the interactive features you're allowed to use.
