I think this can and should be made MUCH clearer when prompting users to sign up on the mobile app. I think this is deceptive Marketing.

Adobe closed my case and told me to upgrade to 14.2. I am getting the same error unless I uncheck optimize. I've unchecked both and get the error too. So for now, I uncheck optimize and optimize the catalog after I start Lightroom. I've been unable to contact Adobe to reopen my case to date. Maybe tomorrow.

Hi DJ. Thanks for being so helpful. It's LRC V14.2 on MacOS 15.3.1. I had another related question - which I think is trivial, so I didn't ask - If a file had previously been converted to DNG, and LRC doesn't recognise it when I upload the .arw from the backup, I presume I just remove it from the directory and reimport and convert it?

Hi @Nick WC!
Have you had a chance to try GoldingD's suggestion? If so, let us know if it helped. You could also try creating a new catalog and importing your photos into that one to see if it works.
Let us know how it goes! Thanks a bunch!
Alek

Hi, I have a question. Always used my Adobe ligthroom 6 on my macbook with OS mojave. But since last week, it won't start anymore :-(. I didn't make changes to any maps etc. So, anyone any idea what could be the problem. Didn't back-up for a while (yes I know...) , so this feels really inconvenient.... Any thoughts that might bring it back to life?

Hi Ingrid, Are there any videos in the folder you are importing from? I had a similar issue and discovered it was a video file that was causing the problem. Also I could not play video in Loupe mode. Regards Paul

They function in Fast Raw Viewer because it is working with the (much smaller) embedded previews in the file, which can be uncorrupted while the actual image itself is corrupted. In this case, the best you can do is try to save the (much smaller) emdedded preview. Or as I said, use a backup of the file.

Thank you so much for your quick and very helpful replies. You are all correct that i didn't generate Smart Previews for these images. I thought LrC did that automatically for me! When i used to import from my SD card I had my import configured to generate Smart Previews. I thought LrC did that automatically for files imported via LrM but I'm wrong! Sure seems like that would be a good feature to add: generate Smart Previews automatically when syncing from LrM.

I also have an old mac and I solved the problem this way. These Sony raw files can be seen and opened by Adobe Bridge. And from there it is possible to export to DNG. Although the new Lightroom and DNG converter also refuse to install.

Hey, @simon28997170cvbr. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out.
The specific lens isn't supported, as per https://adobe.ly/4hrKqb8;
What format are the lens correction profiles you've received? You can follow this conversation to import Lens Profiles manually: https://adobe.ly/3FhpxCd
Let me know if it helps. Thanks! Sameer K

Non I my images show as "missing" This sentence does not have an obvious meaning to me. Are there typos? Are there missing words? What does it mean? My actual images IN lightroom are well organized using collections and keywords etc... If that is the case, I wouldn't bother re-arranging the photos into a different folder structure, that is a nightmare. You can find the photos you want via collections and keywords, and LrC knows what folder they are stored in so that you don't have to know what folder the photos are stored in.

@Björn383063031e2b: "the map module is not accessible in the current version 14.2. No error is displayed, just a gray screen." As you can see in this thread, many users running LR in German are experiencing similar symptoms. There are two known workarounds to this bug: 1. Switch to the Library module, exit LR, restart LR, switch to the Map module, and wait for at least two minutes. This may or may not work for you. 2. Roll back to LR 14.1.1.

@dj_paige FYI an upgrade to LrC v14 does not change the catalog filename as happened in the past. Changing a catalog name is now a Menu item: File > Rename Catalog... Many users with v14 now have catalogs named -v13-3 or similar.
See an explanation in this Lightroom Queen link "Catalog Upgrade (Classic)" (about halfway on the page)
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/whats-new-in-lightroom-2024-10/
@roelv55517707 "I have never really used the catalogues." You must use at least one catalog. Lr-Classic does not work without a catalog.
And good advice from @GoldingD - Get your catalog out of one-drive!
And I agree with the 'deletion' suggestions by @AxelMatt

@jonathan_freeman Your screenshots indicate you are working on One Drive. Why? Have you moved all your files to One Drive? If so, very bad idea. You need to to be working on your local hard drive, not on One Drive. As @GoldingD points out, your most recent catalog by date is very much smaller than the previous one. Less than half the size. This indicates a major problem. I don't see a capitalization problem. The missing folders that have a duplicate have the same case, eg. there are two "Coastal Views", each with 185 photos, but one is marked as missing. This looks like a folder problem in the catalog. Is there anything wrong with "Lightroom Catalog-2-v12.lrcat"?

Hi, dj_paige, "set to zero" means, what it says: All the collections are shown with "0" pictures. When I click on a collection, appears a black window "no photos". It is a very old catalog, which has been actualized, whenever Adobe calls for it. I don't remember, if this is associated with the disappearance of my collections. Meanwhile I perhaps found a solution: I import the collection as catalog. Because I didn't change the metadata, I can let them been overwritten. Than the pictures are integrated in the existing catalog and appear in the before exported collection. The problem is solved – the reason of this unnecessary work remains still unknown. Therefore I would like to get your ideas/help. Thanks, beotto

Try unchecking "Show New Photos Only" in the import dialog. By @Astonished_motivation5639 If you mean unchecking "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates", this is the worst "solution" because it is not a solution ... it makes the problem worse. Now you have two copies of a photo in your catalog, with (probably) different edits and different user-provided metadata. Then some day in the future you will come across one of the photos and be upset that this isn't the edit you remembered, or that this doesn't have the metadata you think you created. Not good. Don't uncheck "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates".

I found a quick fix while using Lightroom! Go to preferences and navigate to performance. Inside the performance settings navigate to "Use Graphics Processor". By default this setting is set to "Auto". Change this setting to "Off" or "Custom" and unselect "Use GPU for Export". Ensuring the setting is temporarily unchecked, export the photo giving the error. I only had the issue with a stacked photo that I unstacked and delete the original. Happy editing, hope this helps!

Here's another tricky bit! I have quite a few images within those hundreds of folders that will need editing over time. I would love to keep them on the internal drive, or have a copy there. Smart Previews seem like a great idea for basic things but won't give me enough options for what I need to do (I'll also have large PS documents to edit). Would it then be the best way, to simple move those images into an editing folder on the internal laptop drive from within LRC and, once finished, move them back from there (using LRC as well), onto the external SSD?
By @ptr22
I have limited space on my MacBook Pro, so I have had to deal with this too. Managing any kind of back-and-forth between drives (exporting a subset and re-importing it later) seemed like too much trouble and too prone to error, since it has to be a manual process that makes you pay strict attention to what you do with which files in what specific order.
In recent years, tiny bus-powered SSDs have gained capacity while also becoming faster and more compact and pocketable. At some point it became possible to fit all of the photos I’ve ever taken on a fast external NVMe SSD that’s only about 1/4 the size of a smartphone, and just needs a USB-C cable to the MacBook Pro. Once that was available, I decided my solution was to just use that fast little SSD all the time for main photo storage. It's so tiny that it's no problem to take it with my anywhere with my laptop, so there is no need to worry about whether I exported the right photos to the laptop and whether their edits get moved back properly into the main catalog. It can all come with me, anywhere, any time I need it to.
