Okay I realized what is happening with jpegs that I had forgotten. If I crop them, they turn into Layer 0. That coupled with PNGs always being layered is what was causing me to think all image files now opened that way. So now my question is, how do I prevent the unflattening?

Usually from various social media platforms. Maybe my memory is wrong. And in fact I do save a lot of them as PNGs as I'm downloading (with an extension). But I uninstalled/reinstalled and I will use that script to just open all files flat by default.

Thank you, I guess that will work if I can't change any Photoshop settings.

Generally for personal use, I need to just make simple adjustments, and it's tedious to have to always flatten the image so it will save to the same format. I can't find a way to change this preference in the settings.

Hi - I created open paths with the pen tool, starting out with the Fill set to None. But it's still showing a fill color, and I can't get rid of it. If I click on a different swatch it changes to that color. But if I click on None, it changes back to the original color (in this case, blue). If I create an open path in a new file, it is not filled. But if I then copy/paste it into the file I want it in, it suddenly has that color! Stumped. Well - I just copied all the layers into a new document, and the problem went away. Maybe a file corruption. But I'm leaving the question up in case that solution helps anyone or a better one is offered.

@ Peter - interesting solution! That did work. Not as easy as a stroke setting but much easier than having separate boxes on top of the frame!

@ Jongware - Sorry, should have said "frame" not "box." I would think the feature should work on any kind of polygon. And there is no reason not to ask for that feature. It's logical to me; I work at a company whose branding requires a thick green stroke at the bottom of all pictures, and a thin grey stroke on the other 3 sides. Or by "logic" maybe you meant a technical developer term...

That would be a very useful feature. You can do it in tables but not in boxes. I'm going to submit a feature request for it -- you can do the same and maybe we'll get it eventually!
