So what forum faults did they fix in the extended down-time?
I assume that is what it was for.

Your the code expert not me.
You know your code. You should be able to write the fixes , submit them to Jive and have them impliment.
You've already fixed some minor items on your own with adobe's permission.

First: I wish. Apart from some minor components that Jive uses
ClearSpace is closed source. I can't fix code I don't have access to.
Same goes for the Adobe SSO portal.
Second: so can a million other people. Adobe employs a few hundred of
them. And as a customer Adobe does have access to Jive's source code.
You've already fixed some minor items on your own with adobe's permission.
I have written some fixes for a very small component of ClearSpace that
happens to be Open Source. And even though I have submitted them to Jive
/ Adobe, I doubt you will see them in production anytime soon because
Jive does not consider the issue a bug in the first place.
But setting aside that I can't fix things I don't have access to, those
were fixes for issues that bothered me. I got tired of having my email
messages disappear if I didn't pay close attention to a word pattern
that Jive considers wrong so I wrote a fix. The expected return on
investment is that I don't have my messages disappear anymore. You are
asking about things that don't bother me. Why would I fix those? I can
only spend my time once so it seems reasonable to spend it on issues I
do care about.
The only thing from your list that was interesting was the logout while
posting a reply issue. Not because it bothered me, but because on a 1-10
scale of weirdness it rated a solid 11. So I investigated it, found the
cause and now it isn't weird anymore. And removing an expires attribute
from a cfcookie tag in the Adobe SSO portal is not exactly what I would
call interesting either.

Talking about the logout problem, I had it happen to me this morning. lucky I was able to use the aback button to get back to what I posted. copy the text I was trying to post then go login the go back to thread and post. Curious thing it showed I was logged in when obviously I wasn't.

instruction. But let me add the link for you:
I think he understood that but is unconvinced that his opinion carries the same weight as your own. Of course since the Jive "upgrade" it seems that the opinions of experienced users here don't matter too much, so I can't blame...

It is not the users' job to sort out the mess that adobe has got itself into.
That sort of message is totally unacceptable, especially coming from a "moderator".

No disagreement there. But why is it the moderators' job?

I didn't say – or even imply – that it was!
(Obviously the decision to adopt jive came ultimately from adobe but the "community" was consulted and their ramblings were published right here in this forum, in the form of a video record of a farcical meeting.)
In a way I feel sorry for these guys who got stuck with the "moderator" job. Why should they have to paint over the cracks?

Yeah, but Jochem is being attacked for trying to get Jive to fix what he cares about. He was simply responding that anyone who has different opinions is welcome to do exactly what he did -- in the same capacity... I think his response was totally reasonable.

It's not a Moderator's Job.
But Jochem is unique in that he has the chops to fix the problems. he knows more about the Jive code, than perhaps the Jive people know. He has already beeen able to fix some minor problems with adobe's/Jive's permission. He is well known at the site he stated. So its not based on his station of being Moderator. But, because of his technical abilities.
I have no fight with him. I disagree with some of his thought about moving threads and other items. But I am but a lowly turnip. And he is the moderator. All I can do is voice my opinions. he has a head on his shoulders and can decide whether he takes mine, or other opinions to heart or not. He would be a better person to take others opinions to heart. But that is his decision.

Phillip,

Thanks for that info. I was feeling about the same as Harbs, but you have added perspective, for me at least.
Appreciated,

It is not the users' job to sort out the mess that adobe has got itself into.
No it isn't. But apparently the users want something to change. And the
question is whether the users here are willing to do what works, or not.
So far it seems the primary objective of most of the people here is to
provide a distraction to the people who are fixing the mess.
That sort of message is totally unacceptable, especially coming from a "moderator".
Good thing I didn't write it then.

C'mon. Give the guy a break!
He's initiated 20 threads over there for the sake of improving out
experience with these forums. He's not allowed to post something which
bugs him personally? Besides, how do you know what his motives are for
posting the request. He obviously doesn't care too much about
avatars or he would have uploaded one for these forums.

I couldn't connect to this site earlier this morning. Now everything seems back to normal; i.e., too slow.
My screen is showing 2.5.7 just as before.
And the Slow thread, where I was going to post this message before I noticed it could be more useful here, is a thread with 53 replies ending in message #54!!!!!

Well, it was not the ability to stay logged-in for more than an hour, but I will say that the speed seems to have been slightly improved for much of Sept 04, until about 8:00PM AZT. Now, it's starting to look like last night.
Maybe there are neat things that we have yet to discover? Obviously, it is not a complete redo of Search, but I still have a few good years left...
