Unable to get the Adobe Flashplayer 11 to work on my laptop, windows 7 64 bit no matter what I try.

Very frustrating and I have spent much time trying everything directed by Adobe to get it to work.   The program tells me that it has been installed successfully but I cannot play any videos of news items that I try.   What is going on???
