Not that I use them much, but I just discovered that the Insert Emoticon button isn't working.

Using keystrokes seems to work for me...

As does the insert Emoticon Icon

Hudechrome was reporting the same issue though.

(My version of IE is out of date, so maybe it works better with the out-of-date forum software. )

It's not so easy; see my own tests starting here:

I've had slightly different results, regarding formatting, but smilies seem to work in Chrome and IE 7 for me.

LOL, I always thought it should be called a WTF toolbar! And in this case, the Modern Family misnomer would really apply.

WTF = Why The Face?

Well, it seems this is yet another new "quirk" we will have to get used to tolerate. Problem is, the number of such "quirks" seems to be increasing, not decreasing. And although some people like to call them "quirks", I would call them "bugs".

True; I had forgotten. Blame it on my age. Funny, though, that the new features are making our experience in the forums less pleasant...

features aren't for users. they're for developers. we include them so we can laugh at frustrated users!

Now here is a new (at least for me) feature: the cursor is not visible while writing messages in Firefox 3.6 10 / Mac OS 10.6.4. It is visible in the other combinations of browsers/OSs that I use.

I've seen that and also about six other quirks which occur randomly and are beneath my contempt to enumerate.

Suffice it to say that, rather than showing any kind of improvement as our lives slip away day by day, the jive text input box is getting more and more unusable.

And no, I don't intend to switch browsers to compensate for incompetence.

I agree in full. That's why I have always refused to eliminate the extra li

ne breaks manually, which is the official workaround fo

r this feature, amongst many other workarouds I refuse to use. My only compromise has been to change the font of my messages from the unreadable Arial to Verdana, while the possibility was still there, but I only did this to be able to read at least my own messages a little more easily.

The invisible cursor is a random, and luckily rare (much rarer than the linefeed, which I still amend, as in this line), feature here (FF); actually, it challenges and helps training certain skills.

I have never used emoticons. Now they seem to be the easy way to create an empty post, instead of writing something, posting it, and deleting it again during an edit.

Now the font selection drop-down is broken

. This is becoming a farce!

Edit: That was with Comic Sans selected!

What on earth is going on?

Edit: Maybe it's a Firefox thing.

No, it's in IE too.

What will be next to break?
