Issues and possible bugs found by users in upgraded Forum

Dear Uncle Adobe,

I was advised by Todd to tell you about a bug found, but was unable to find dedicated thread, so I start my own - don't judge strictly.

I found out that after opening two or three threads Internet Explorer 9 ceases to open next ones in a new window or a new tab and just hangs in an attempt, whereas keeps opening them in the same tab (by just clicking on a link)...

Issue doesn't exist in other browsers (FireFox, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari)...

Thanks! Todd already emailed me about that. Sending it off to Jive.

Is this 100% repeatable? Or are there any special steps needed to recreate the issue?

Yesterday's night it looked gone, and I was about to comment that on...

But today's morning the issue got back... No any special steps, every time IE9 just hangs while opening right any 4th thread in new window or new tab, whereas keeps working if a thread is opened in the same tab by clicking on a link (i.e. even after hanging on opening 4th thread in a new window/tab IE9 can successfully open threads in original tab)...

In other browsers everything works well as it was.

UPD: The issue has just gone. (At about 13:00 UTC)

UPD2: And reappeared again at about 13:30 UTC... <img src="http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/sorry.gif">

Reported. Sounds like a fun one to track down.

I hoped other users would report whether they were facing up to the same issue or not. However they all keep silence...

Maybe its unique to Explorer 9. IE has always done strange things and has always disregarded W3C standards. It might just be something That IE is doing  different.

If you don't like Mozilla products try Chrome.

(sometimes I just test my Flash applications in different browsers)

So the question is not about my preferences or whatever (as has been said, it's possible to work with Forum in IE9 - just do not try to open extra windows or tabs), the question is about whether there is a bug or not...

Have not seen that behavior, BUT I am on Chrome, and only have IE 7 to test with. Normally, I have 3 - 6 tabs with different forums, or threads open, and have not found a limitation - so far.

Another one: Hyperlinks do not appear in IE8's status bar. I don't like to click on a link if I don't know where it'll lead me.

I fired up an XP VM and I see what you mean.  Interesting!  SOME of them show up in IE8 (for example if you hover over a person's avatar) but most do not.  It must have something to do with the script that runs on hover.

For what it's worth, I *am* able to see previews of all the URLs here in the status bar of IE9.

Given that IE10 is already being previewed, perhaps it's time to consider moving up?  FYI, the URL previews for links here do show up okay in the status bar of IE10 as well.

I've noticed the new forum will refresh (blink) one to two times before settling down. I've already reported and the system-admin has already verified I have tries on 8 different web broswers happens on all. I don't have IE as I us a Mac.

I've also noticed on some repliesa That some of the Formatting Items are Missing

See: http://www.screencast.com/t/0OsZajhrk

the items I have highlighted in yellow from time to time disappear.

I don't recall seeing the blinking behavior that you speak of, probably because I don't do quite the same things you do...  Can you point to the thread where you describe just how to reproduce it?  I think I saw it go by but I've lost track of it.

And regarding the font info...  The "normal RTE" (rich text editor) doesn't have them, but the "advanced editor" does.  While each of these two different editors show up at different times (e.g., Reply leads to the "normal RTE" while a new post leads to the "advanced editor"), I don't sense any randomness there.  Maybe some disjointedness amongst the forum implementation...

See this movie: http://screencast.com/t/P8l5f9p78IAf

Disregard the yellow screen. That's  another issue. That showed timing between clicking link and actually going to message.

Watch the Blink.

On some links it blinks 4-5 times very fast before settling down.  and it happen when post  replies as well.

So you're following a link from an external program into a brand new browser window?

I just created an eMail message in Outlook 2003, then pasted the link to this thread into it.  I sent it to myself, then when I received it I did the following:

1.  Clicked the link from within Outlook's preview pane.  In this case, a new IE9 window came right up, instantly showed the top of the thread, then in about 0.1 second jumped to the bottom where I saw your post above.

2.  Opened the eMail, then clicked the link from within the Word-hosted eMail editor.  In this case a new IE9 window came up, showed the top of the thread, then the user rating stuff at the bottom of the first post in the blue part filled-in and expanded the latter part of the thread down a bit vertically.

If there was any actual flashing it was WAY faster than I could perceive.  I need to figure out what software to load to be able to do screen grab videos.

At first blush, this seems like this could be more of an issue with application integration on your computer than something wrong with the forum software.  But I assume there's a difference between this behavior and what you used to see with the old version of Jive...

Can you suggest alternate means for reproducing the flashing behavior?
