b Points

I don't like is this concept of "points". I really don't like the competitive energy of those points. I've been to non-business forums where people award each other "karma." It's stupid and can be petty when someone has more karma than others.

I have no idea who gives points to others, but I don't like them.

I wouldn't mind a record of when joined or how many posts, but I think that belongs in a profile, not next to the responses.

b Answering posts

Who marks a message as answered? As mentioned before, the OP could state the post is answered, but others could find a problem.

Will there be a way for the Forum Moderator to amend an answered post as "With Note"?

b Sorting the messages

Will there be a way to sort according to the OP? If not, it seems a waste of a column.

I'm sure I will have other issues that I'll add later.

I also agree with Sandee on all points.

Unfortunately, the people responsible for creating this horror are proving to be totally incapable of incorporating any of the features for which we have all begged; while they have pig-headedly over-loaded the site with every single time- and space-wasting gizmo that we had implored them to exclude.

Oh God, I see how people get points. Someone awards them points for
b helpful
answers or
b complete
answers!

Oh PLEASE do not go down this road!

We all know who is helpful and who is not.

We all know what answers work and which do not.

Please, the only
i points
for Adobe forums should be for the anchors of vector objects!

I know the Preview is only a preview, but I don't see anywhere to click to respond to a post.

I hope that button will be close to the post.

What is totally idiotic about Points is that he who asks the question, and more than likely knows nothing about the subject, is the one who gets to mark a response as being "Correct"!

And it doesn't matter how misguided and wrong that answer may be, Forum Operations has no way to remove that misleading flag.

This is childish stupidity running rampant.

Sandee, were you logged in? That then enables you to post replies (or questions for that matter)? (As Ann said in effect).

It's stuff like the image below that is ABSOLUTELY unneeded, and unwanted, and quite frankly, a little passé. Yes it's "only" 32K, and most folks will have it cached after the first visit.

But it's just one more bit of fluff that contributes to the over all sludgification.

Somebody PLEASE give me a good reason why it's necessary, besides the untenable argument that it somehow makes some sort of sense in regards to aesthetic consistency? I figure the Adobe logo should be enough.

OK, I figured out where to log in and so got to see and press the Reply button.

One thing about the Reply area really bugs me is that you don't see any of the thread that you are replying to.

I like to see the original posters comments and reply to them by quoting them. And sometimes I will reply to more than one post.

The current system allows me to scroll back up to read and copy comments from previous posts.

This one doesn't.

> What is totally idiotic about Points is that he who asks the question, and more than likely knows nothing about the subject, is the one who gets to mark a response as being "Correct"!

The points are based on whether the answer fixed their problem, whether the answer is the most textbook perfect answer is not important to the user.

Whether its worded correctly, or make more experienced people roll their eyes because they wouldn't do it that way, or word it that way, is not important

Some of you people come across as upper crust snobs, that think they are better than everyone else.

Some may have a little more experience. Some may have more education. But when push comes to it, everyone puts their pants on the same way.

One leg at a time. We are all are users of a given product. Some may have more knowledge about a given subject; but that's it.

dumb. dumb. dumb.

dumb. dumb. dumb.

>Some may have more knowledge about a given subject

the point is you want help from those people with "more knowledge about a given subject". not from some dope who... aw man. what's the use.

will the new forum allow sigs?

"I've got a bad feeling about this."

The point is the user asking the question wants answer that fixes his or her problem, nothing else matter. If say your a Church Secretary using Acrobat to fix a Church News letter you don't necessarily need a University professor give a full out dissertation for an answer. Leaving then scratching their head.

You have to assume (unless you know the person or they give credentials in the post) that the only knowledge they have is, push the button to turn computer on and double click application to make it open.

When you click reply of a particular message, a new screen appears with a Quote button

Problem is, for some of us, that you have to type at least one character (even hit the space bar once) in YOUR message before the quote button will do anything

Once you do that and click quote, the message where you clicked reply will appear as a quote

"Wrong"

Because other Users then read the so called "Correct Answer" (that was actually a very BAD and WRONG answer!) and muck-up their files or computer by following that original bad, and possibly harmful, "Correct Answer".

There is nothing "elitist" or "upper crust snob" about this just an attempt to prevent the spread of sloppy/stupid/ignorant practices among Users of these Applications.

> There have been some monumentally bad pieces of advice posted by some people.

Such as all the people who have wanted to know how to outline every bit of text in their InDesign document.

When someone gives them just the answer on how to do it, which is correct, they are not explaining that the whole concept is a very BAD idea.

The OP doesn't mark the explanations that it is a bad idea as correct. The OP just marks the bad answer as the answer.

There are many other similar problems with ID files that wind up being spread around as "fact" when they are in fact, "wrong!".

Please don't make me list them all.

I just think that any answer in a thread that is listed as "correct" is a bad idea.

I'd much rather have the current system where loads of people chime in to agree or disagree with an answer.

Remember, we're not talking about how to plug something in to get it to run, we're talking about techniques that need to be in keeping with "Generally Recognized Accepted Practices." (GRAP)

I still think most here are nit-piking about stuff that should matter. Whether you like avatars, points, even Names, etc, is not the important point. The important point is to give the most accurate answer possible.
