According to a post by Jochem van Dieten - his second para - here:

http://forums.adobe.com/message/2350801#2350801

Jive is now on Version 4. Adobe, as we can still see, is refusing to upgrade from their Version 2.5.7... QED

Yes, we are also missing the correction of some other bugs in intermediate versions, for example: 79.

true. Adobe had to buy this crap in the first place, and as you pointed out they won't upgrade.

But if they did upgrade who is to say things would be much better after all it is jiveware.

I remember that JC explained that we couldn't keep our superior page-design when the Forums moved to Jive because it was necessary to stay with Jive's standard non-customized layout to allow for easy upgrades to Jive's Updates.

Now we have this horrible Forum layout AND a two-version out-of-date version of Jive.

Perhaps Adobe can have the decency to explain exactly why they are short-changing their customers in the reduced quality of both their Customer Support and their User's Forums?

Is Adobe going broke?

Is Jive 4 even worse than Jive 2.x?

Or do Adobe simply no longer care about their Customers?

Or is there a lot more to running an enterprise level forum than you realize?

It all stems from the desire to merge what were the Adobe and Macromedia forums. Quite understandable but the solution chosen was the wrong one.

Maybe the people from Jive don't know how to set one up. And Maybe Adobe doesn't either after all we've been told that our current Jive system is 2.7.6. and Jive is already up to 4.0. Based on JVD esitimates of Jive and Adobe's updating schedules (just clearly guesstimate)s, that means it might be 10 years before we get to version 4. We started out with 2.7.3 we are now up to 2.5.7 And that happened in not the too distant past.

Sorry about that meant 2.5.3 to 2.5.7 hit a wrong number.

I don't want to get into an argument with one of the firefighters trying to put out this Jiveware inferno, but I have to say:

We may not have installation and operation of an enterprise level forum on our resumes, but the real problem is that other companies do, and their forums are often better in most/all ways AND don't have the multitude of bugs found here.

I think what we really want to hear from Adobe is that a mistake was made switching to this disaster jiveware.  Most of us are reasonable enough to then accept whatever the consequences are (in the short and medium term), whether it's weathering this cursed UI disaster of a 'web board' or even helping Adobe evaluate alternative long term replacements, etc.  Mistakes happen, especially in the software acquisition process (personal experience here), I think we realize that there are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there in IT.

This is forgivable, but we have to know first that Adobe even realizes this is a mistake to begin with.  Without knowing this, all we can do is speculate that some Adobe executives are getting bonuses for destroying the Adobe user community (in the worst case).

I still place the majority of the blame on JIVE Software and their marketing department, but it's hard not to have lingering doubts about whether Adobe really cares or even realizes what just happened to their forum community.
