no templates in CS3??? WHYYYYY?

OK.  AFter some digging and reading on the web and browsing around the forums, I've read that templates did come with CS2, but not with later products.  However, I've also read that templates DO come, you just have to know where to find them in windows (common files/adobe/yadayada), but they do not exist on my install.  They also don't exist on the resources and extras disks.

Annoyingly, I have some lovely designs I did in my trial version of CS4, but of course I can't open those in CS3.

WHYYYYYYY?

Shouldn't the CS2 templates at least be available for download?

(for the record, I've found a few shareware downloads, but they are not quite the spiffy, professional looking items I found in CS4 samples)

Can anyone point me to a fix for this?

(I apologize for cross-posting.  I posted this question in the design forums, but it looks like NO ONE answers questions over there).

Wrong forum, Pamela.

Product questions will not (and should not) be answered here.

The problem is that this forum is for questions about the forums themselves and, as has been pointed out, not for questions about adobe products.

You need to decide which of the applications you need templates for and then ask in the forum for that product, listed on http://forums.adobe.com/

OK, John, thank you for making this explanation -- that this forum is for

questions about the forums themselves, and not about products.

Let me explain why this is not apparent to a new forum user.

Under the FAQ for this forum, there is no explanation. There is, however, a

notice that the FAQ is a work in progress.

Under Forum Etiquette we find this info:

- Respect others

- Assume good faith

- Share what you know

- Be kind to newbies — we were all new once

- Encourage others; recognize and praise good work

- Attract and honor good, knowledgeable people

- Ask for help, and help others in return

- Set a good example

- Add information about yourself to your forum profile

And finally, under the forum topics being discussed, we find beaucoup topics

about products.

I wouldn't consider arguing with you about the purpose of this forum, but

could you explain how a new user is to distinguish what is what?

Thanking you in advance for kindness to a newbie,

Pamela

Bingo!

You finally told us which application you are talking about.

Go and ask in the InDesign forum.

InDesign is a Professional page layout application. You get to make your own templates.

If you need to have templates buy something made for amateurs that has templates.

That's the first thing I did. The "document from template" does not

display. Not there.

AND, I posted in the inDesign forum.

Nada.

No life.

Any other suggestions?

. . ."whole raft of templates"

yep, that's what I had in CS4. Not there in CS3.

I appreciate that I should just create my own, as another kind and helpful

soul suggested.

Unfortunately, much of what I'm doing right now in these programs is

"donated" to non-profits. It was very helpful to me to have a selection of

foundations already built, so I didn't have to donate more time. I do have

a job that pays, elsewhere, which requires much time.

I do appreciate the snippets of information that are coming out, in among

the grumps.

I have a stand-alone copy of CS3 and the templates were installed in WinXP in

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Templates\InDesign\5.0

If they are not there you may have to re-install.

I just got one email that says that you don't get templates in the educator

version.

Should I bother with trying a re-install or just shoot myself now?

I know nothing about what the educational versions include or don't include.

Your respondent may be right.

There again maybe he isn't.

Adobe says:

Education vs. retail versions

Many Adobe products have versions created especially for the Education market. The Education versions of Adobe products are fully functional and identical to the retail versions, although there might be differences in packaging or marketing.

For example, sometimes retail products include promotional software (such as free fonts or clip art) not included with the Education version. Additionally, because Education products are already discounted, they may not qualify for other pricing discounts offered to non-Education customers.
