Unable to use the Report Abuse link

I have tried several times to use the Report Abuse link in the Forum in Spanish, but keep on getting a message saying "an unexpected error has occurred, please try again". I moved from Mac/Firefox to Win 7/Safari but nothing changed.

It now seems that the effect I reported is only affecting this particular thread there?

Are you sure the link didn't work? Or do you mean submitting the form

after you have entered an abuse report doesn't work?

I'll try to be more clear. If I click on the Report Abuse link of any message by that person in that particular thread, I am taken to this window:

Window.jpg

I write my comments, keeping the length of the text within the size of the box and, after clicking the Report Abuse, I receive this error:

Error.jpg

My comments are necessary because they explain why I am asking to have several threads removed in a forum without moderators.

Looks like the "problem" is affecting all sorts of posts, and not just replies.

For me, the errors have ceased, but as of about 5:00AM PDT August 03, even some MOD's have not been able to post.

Good luck to us all,

Bill, I have been posting messages normally, and at least one abuse report (I cannot use the forum for tests because I cannot report abuse in a message of mine, and I don't want to report anyone as abusive unless I have a reason for it, which I think testing isn't).

Claudio,

I have created a topic in the Test forum that you can use to test the reporting function: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/693368

I have added a 2nd post to it so you can report that separately: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3024252#3024252

Pat, thank you for exposing yourself to the guillotine.

I tried to report abuse in your first and second posts using my previous text explaining the reasons to ask for the deletion of some threads in a forum that has no moderators. It would seem that there is something in that text that the system doesn't like, as I received the same "unexpected error" on both occasions. I did however manage to report you as abusive when I replaced my text by a neutral one explaining that my report was just a test and there wasn't anything offensive in your message.

Unfortunately, the "unexpected error" message is not very informative, so I have no way of knowing what is wrong in my message. In my previous and genuine attempts I tried unsuccessfully to shorten the text until it fitter the message window, and to remove a link, so I am left at a blank.

Repeating, and in short: the problem seems to be with the text I am trying to use to report abuse, not with the thread or the author as I thought.

Thanks again for your cooperation.

Pat, I know I promissed you some m

ore testing today using the thread you opened speciall

y for this. However, knowing that the problem

I was reporting is well know, well documented, and with well known workarounds makes it pointless to waste more time in this. Only trouble is that I have been unable to find these workarounds, for I am too dumb for using easily and usefully the powerful Search engine of this site, or to engage successfully in manual searches. Also, I couldn't find the answer in any of the two links you kindly provided, or in any of the related threads shown in the sidebar.

Thank you very much for your cooperation, I really appreciate it.

Extra line breaks kindly provided by the non updated software of the site.

This has been discussed before. Use the search or take a look at the

You have to realise you are talking to non-nerds.

When I post I try to help. For instance in this case I would indicate how one might look at the source code and what one is looking for.

It would seem that we users are required to be IT specialists in order to use this site, and to remember everything that has been posted. even more than a year ago. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know how to look for the code of an error message, and my tendency to forget things I don't use is increasing.

Jochem,

you are turning this into a "Schnitzeljagd".  Many forum regulars give their precious time to help fellow users.  Spam and other abusive posts often disrupts these activities.  If we cannot report these posts and have them removed, the support process gets more difficult, as idiot posts must be read (while the forum itself acts very slow), and active topics are pushed to the second or third page by spam topics.

If you have found and know the solution to the problem that Claudio has posted, why don't you just share it with us instead of sending us on a wild goose chase involving the slow and unreliable forum search?

I do not believe Claudio's report in this thread is indicative of a

problem that has an impact beyond the limited scope he gave here. It

pops up in a question from somebody once every few months (and usually

from somebody who is not a frequent reporter).

If you have found and know the solution to the problem that Claudio has posted, why don't you just share it with us instead of sending us on a wild goose chase involving the slow and unreliable forum search?

Because I don't want to encourage Claudio to ask for answers that have

been repeatedly provided in threads he was a participant in himself. I

hope my "This has been discussed before." made it clear this was a known

issue that has been properly reported to Adobe / Jive and the cause and

consequences are well understood. It is up everybody to make up his own

mind on whether to spend more time on this or not.

Very many thanks; you are very kind.

Don't you think that perhaps a sticky topic with a list of all these well known and well reported answers to obscure and infrequent problems could be useful to prevent reposting questions that were answered many months ago? Last time you gave the same answer it wasn't such an infrequent problem, and I wasn't the only one who didn't remember the workaround.

May I suggest a way to costruct such a list? Someone like you

could open a thread ("Post your

workarounds here" or something like that) where users could post the workarounds they can remember, maybe giving a link to the original source. After some time, and with a little trimming, the thread could be made sticky.

Just an idea.

Claudio,

FWIW, I filed about a dozen against a particular spammer today, and all worked perfectly. This was all in several product fora and with Chrome as the browser.

Not sure how that relates, if it does.

Good luck,
