CPU + GPU, which is best?

What combo works better for Blender and Premiere Pro: I7-7700HQ + GTX 1080 or i7-8750H + GTX 1070? Thanks!

I would be very surprised if that specific comparrison has ever been run.

My preference would be for the latter.  I believe the additional CPU cores would be more useful than the additional CUDA cores.  At least on the Premiere Pro front.  (I've never used Blender.)

The first combo might be better for gaming. But when it comes to Premiere Pro, CPU / GPU balance is more important, and the i7-7700HQ / GTX 1080 combo is a bit lopsided in balance in favor of the GPU. This can cause corrupted renders in Premiere and other NLEs that use GPU acceleration because the CPU cannot keep up with the GPU. The i7-8750H / GTX 1070 combo is a bit better balanced, even if the GTX 1070 is a tad underpowered for a hexa-core CPU with a relatively high all-core Turbo clock speed (in this case, 3.9 GHz).

Thank you for your answer, RjL. I guess you are right and finally that was my choice, looking more for a balanced mix between the CPU and GPU, instead of pure GPU power.

In a couple of days I will be receiving my laptop (MSI Raider) and we'll see the results.
