Issues with Dual Monitors and Premiere Pro CC 2017

Hi,

I recently built a new computer and ever since I have been having issues with CC 2017. First, I tried to set up my second display to show only the program monitor, that didn't work. It would create a black screen on my secondary monitor, I  could see my mouse pointer but nothing would be displayed. I tried switching renderers and disabling intel h.264 encoding. No luck. I then decided to just set up a dual monitor workspace. At first it was working fine, but then I had a crash and after restarting it would no longer playback any video, only audio. It usually shows a white screen for the program monitor and just blank for the source monitor, audio always plays. I reinstalled a few times, and it would fix my issue, but then it would come back. Now it won't go away, and Premiere won't work with both monitors no matter what I do. When I turn the secondary monitor off and disable it completely my video will magically show up and everything works fine, that is until I re-enable the other monitor. Screens will flash, and when Premiere comes back, I have the problem with the video not showing up. I've also tried resetting preferences and deleting caches/etc. I tried making sure the resolutions matched on both displays (one is 4k one is 2k, so I tried making both 2k) After a lot of searching the web I can't find any answers to my question. I've found a few people with similar issues but none of their solutions have been able to resolve this issue. And sadly, my projects will not render anymore either, even with one monitor... Other than Premiere my new system is performing flawlessly. I have tried reverting to CC 2015 but because initially things worked for a bit, I will lose over 10 hours of work by reverting. This makes no sense.

Version: Premiere Pro CC 2017.0

Plugins: RED GIANT Colorista IV, PluralEyes 4, Universe 2

CPU: Intel Core i7 6850k OC 4.5gHz (load temp 40c)

GPU: Nvidia GeForce 1080 GTX driver 376.33

MOBO: Asus Rampage V Edition 10

MEMORY: 64gb 3200mhz

HDD: 16tb RAID 10

SSD: Samsung Pro m.2 1tb

MONITORS: BenQ BL2711U & Asus PG279Q

OS: Windows 10

Codec related stuff installed: CCCP, K-Lite Codec Pack, Quicktime, GoPro Studio... cant think of anything else I downloaded for codecs... At first I thought this may have been the issue, as WMP wouldn't play some of my raw mp4 files either. By installing the above codec packs I was able to get them to work. Maybe there is something I am forgetting, it's been 5 years since I built my last machine and had to reinstall basic codecs etc.

Basically, dual monitors will not work for me and I spent $1,500 on my monitors alone to be able to do this. I'm a couple days behind on work now trying to figure this out. Probably should have posted here sooner.

Sorry if I forgot any details, I will provide them ASAP if asked.

And thank you in advance!

Problem solved! After extensive testing it turns out that the problem was with a program called Sonic Suite 2 that came with my motherboard. I'm not sure what it even does, I think it's for hearing better while gaming... who've thought that'd be it. I am restoring my overclocks and hopefully this fixes everything. Thanks for the help everyone!

PS... After figuring out that was the issue I did a search of Sonic Suite 2 conflicts with Premiere and voila...

My story is much the same as you. I built a custom PC with the new i7 10 core CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, 64 Gigs of DDR4 RAM, and a ASUS motherboard. I originally built and installed it as a Windows 10 machine with CC 2017. I could not figure it out. I rolled back to Windows 7, No go. I rolled back to CC 2015, No go. I tried all different NVIDIA drivers, none of them fixed the issue. I kept searching for "Mercury Transmit" issues, thinking that was the culprit. No it was indeed the Sonic Suite 2 software!

You get huge props for this solve, I am going to spread the word as best as I can!

Thank you Spinning Onion!!!!!

Spinning Onion,

THANKS!!!  I am an Asus guy too.....Skylake ROG Maximus Hero VIII.

I have had Sonic Studio 2 on here since I built the system!!   I can guarantee there is no conflict between Sonic Studio II and Pr Pro CC 2015.  It all started when I "upgraded" to Pr Pro 2017.

All I had to do was right click on sonic studio and hit exit.  And my video popped up!!

Unbelievable.  I wish there was a "props" button because I would be hitting it.

Since this was NOT a problem and Adobe's move to 2017 caused it, perhaps some of the people with pull on this thread can get it fixed on the adobe side?  Hard to blame Asus when this was working for like 2 years....

Have you filed the bug reports, people? The staffers here are Product Support primarily ... to get this to the PrPro engineers you need to file the bug reports, which are tabulated and delivered to the managers.

Hey Spinning Onion, good find, well done.

Hey, I was wondering if you had an over-clocking guide you are using for the 6850k.

cheers.

I actually did not have Sonic Studio II on my computer and couldn't solve this way.  Instead, I went to File/Project Settings/General and changed my rendering engine from OpenCL to Metal.  When doing this you must agree to delete all previews before you can proceed.  I agreed and my second monitor started working.  I honestly think it may have had something to do with the previews instead of the render engine because it has been working fine for quite some time using the OpenCL engine.

Either way...this is working for now and hope it helps someone else too.

Best of luck.

This is crazy! Same here! Just disabled Sonic Studio II, and it's working now as it should be. I've got an Asus Maximus Formula VII.
Just killed the app, and it's going fine with a dual monitor setup. Thanks for this post!

Glad it helped! I was just looking at updates for my Maximus VIII Hero board.  So even the most recent Sonic Studio in combination with the most recent PPro version still does this?

Ironically I tried to start Premiere Pro yesterday and it would not start so I was just looking at an "update night" for all my adobe programs!

Hopefully the most recent updates solve this and my AME rendering issues from my last flurry of projects.

MY GOD!!!  I wish I found this 3 weeks ago.

Spent an agonizing 3 weeks (not making that up) with senior techs over at Adobe trying to figure the problem out.

Basically, the source and preview monitors were blacking out. I'm on a dual monitor system)

After trial and error, and clean installs, we got PPRO running on one monitor, but when I changed the workspace to dual, the problems came back.

btw, running decent eq:  8 core AMD, 4 gb GTX 1050 Ti gpu, 32gb, a clean new setup that should run PPRo with no problems.

It did run for months, but after a new windows update, the monitors blacked out.  I thought it was a win10 problem, or cuda, or driver problem, you can easily get lost with trial and error and speculation.  but then.......

I accidentally found this post when I researching dual monitor setup problems.   I have the ROG motherboard and those f'd up sonic 3 and sonic radar garbage programs.   After reading the notes here, I couldn't wait to rip the guts out of those programs and see if that worked.

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!  IT REALLY WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I running dual monitors, and the preview and source monitors WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 3 weeks of anger, frustration and depression I'm back in business.

Thank You Spinning Onion....   you saved my life.

Thank you , thank you THANK YOU!!!!!

Letty

I have another call back tomorrow from an Adobe senior tech and I'm going to let him know how to fix this.

I have this exact problem since getting a new gaming laptop. Premiere Pro does this when I have my 2nd monitor plugged in.  Premiere Pro also won't close correctly, I have to go to task manager to close it fully.  This only happens when I use the 2nd monitor.  When I completely unplug the 2nd monitor, the source video and program video both show and play normally.  The problem is, I don't have Sonic Suite installed.  Any other ideas here?  I can't find anything on my exact problem anywhere else other than this thread. I have used PP for years without issues and have a new, clean, and even better setup than before and shouldn't be having problems. I installed rollback drivers and other things before realizing that it is, indeed, the 2nd monitor being plugged in that causes the issue.

Neil, I'm sorry for the delayed response.  I have 13.1.3.  I do not see a 13.1.4 on my adobe cc.  It says it is up to date.

It's not. 13.1.4 is the current version.

Try signing out of the CC app, reboot, and sign back in. That often "unsticks" the CC app.

Ok, I have done so and it continues to say the most recent version is 13.1.3.  So what we have done so far: We have recently wiped the computer, reset windows, installed clean gpu and cuda.  Installed all adobe brand new.  Made sure all latest versions (again...the .4 is not showing for PP).  Then we did a rollback nvidia driver to the recommended by adobe because what they recommended was one prior...just in case it was a glitch.  After all of that, is when we figured out it doesn't happen when I unplug the 2nd monitor.  I need to escalate with Adobe support and I just haven't had time to sit and work on that yet.  I've been making do with one monitor and I know that's not acceptable and I need it on my larger screen.
