My GTX480 only occasionally works with Adobe Premiere Creative Cloud. What should I replace it with?

Hi

More often than not when I open an existing Adobe Premiere CC file the Mercury Playback Engine is not working.  I'm using an old GTX480 card.

What would be a good choice to replace that card -- that will fit in the same type slot in my tower.

This is a link to the GTX480 on Amazon -- it's what I purchased back in 2010.  It includes a photo of the hardware so you can see what kind of slot it needs to fit in.

Thanks!  Trying to finish a project and am weary of the occasional non availabilty of the Mercury Playback Engine.

BTW I have a Cooler Master power supply  1000watt

I'm primarily editing for the web.  No blockbuster wide screen motion pictures For Your Oscar Consideration.

Update:  Since I posted this question, I am looking at this:  EVGA GeForce GTX780

Further update:  I looked at the specs of my motherboard.  It says it has PCIe 2.0 x16 slots  I assume that limits my options?  Or is there a 2.0 to 3.0 adapter I can use??  My current motherboard specs from Amazon

Hi Bill and RoninEdits,

I've decided to go for a quick fix now -- and later in 2017 I will do a full blown new tower editing system.

With this in mind I reviewed RoninEdits' comments regarding the 1050 Ti 4gb  --  I found this on NewEgg  EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC GAMING, 04G-P4-6253-KR, 4GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) on

I see some different "flavors" of that card on that page.  Any final recommendations before I push the Add to Cart button?

Hi

The main physical difference I'm seeing re the 1050 Ti 4gb  on NewEgg EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC GAMING, 04G-P4-6253-KR, 4GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) on   is the two fan version and the one fan version.

I'm sure there are other differences, but all things considered, should I get one of the two fan versions? -- or do you have any specific recommendations on the variations of the 1050 Ti 4 at the Newegg link.  (BTW I'm switching to Newegg because now Amazon is telling me it could be a month before they can ship any 1050 Ti card.)

UPDATE:

To my uneducated eye this two fan 1050 Ti seems to be the "fastest"  A faster Core clock than the other 3 and a faster Boost clock than the other 3

Newegg link:

  • 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5
  • Core Clock 1379 MHz
  • Boost Clock 1493 MHz
  • 1 x Dual-Link DVI-D 1 x HDMI 2.0b 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
  • 768 CUDA Cores
  • PCI Express 3.0

Shall I buy it?

Thanks,

You have to really look at the specifications.  You want the fastest "Memory Clock"  or in the case of Newegg it is "Effective Memory Clock" which does not show in the above you have to go to the "Specifications" tab.  I have to run out now so I will leave the search up to you.

Quick update. Installed the n 1050 Ti card. Crossed my fingers.  And now I'm seeing the Mercury Playback Engine in CC Premiere 2017.  Thanks!

Still doing some testing, but all is looking good.  I'll report further testing results later.

Thanks Bill and RoninEdits
