Hi Meysta,

What is the VRAM of the Nvidia card?

Please elaborate the issue you are facing with the card.

Thanks,

Vidya.

That GeForce 940 MX with GDDR 5 memory should have been a bit faster and a bit more powerful than the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 that's in your laptop's 8th Generation i7-8###U CPU. Unfortunately, getting Premiere to use the discrete GPU instead of the integrated one is a lot more trouble than it's worth for many users because Adobe does not currently properly support switchable graphics: On such systems that have no provision whatsoever to fully disable the integrated graphics, Adobe Premiere's GPU Sniffer will all too often freak out with the response "Not chosen because of initialization failure", in which case the GPU used by Adobe will almost always default to the integrated Intel graphics. And the workarounds to properly enable the discrete GPU for Adobe apps do not work properly, if at all, on all systems.

That is not a powerful enough card to use comfortably with Premiere Pro.

So are you saying the Intel UHD 620 graphics card is more powerful than the NVIDIA one?

This is because by default OpenCL support in Windows for the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 is enabled. And since Premiere cannot use two or more dissimilar GPUs simultaneously for GPU acceleration, by default only the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 is used. This is because by default OpenCL takes precedence over CUDA when Premiere launches, and in all Windows versions of Premiere Pro OpenCL support within the program is disabled for Nvidia GPUs.

Here is a suggestion from another forum member for a Windows registry tweak to fix the problem without completely disabling the Intel UHD Graphics 620 (scroll down to johnnyk7917700's response for the tweak), to be used since current versions of Premiere Pro have no provision whatsoever for the manual selection of the GPU to be used for MPE GPU acceleration.

By the way, that GeForce 940MX is too weak for use with Premiere: The GM108 that the 940MX is based on, being one of the two first-generation Maxwell GPUs that were introduced back in 2014, has only 384 CUDA cores to begin with, and is restricted to a 64-bit memory interface - and if your version of the GPU uses DDR3 graphics RAM, the 940MX may actually be slower than the Intel UHD Graphics in rendering speed. And even the GDDR5 version of the 940MX is not sufficiently faster than the UHD Graphics to be worth bothering with this registry tweak.

Since that 940MX is an OEM only device we cannot see its true specifications without you telling us the make and model number of the laptop.  I just looked at a typical laptop with a GeForce 940MX.  As I suspected it only had a 2-core CPU, 8GB of RAM and a single 1TB 5400 rpm disk drive.  All totally inadequate for running Premiere Pro.  By the way it did have 2 GB of GDDR5 memory.

What are yoor computer specs?

Have you tried the registry modification?

Hi Meysta,

Have you updated the GPU driver to the latest version? If yes, what is the version number?

If using the latest driver version, try to install any previous version of the GPU driver & check.

Thanks,

Vidya

Hello Vidya, I have the same question. I have a Dell Inspiron 7570 with NVIDIA Geforce 940MX but this graphics doesn't seem to be supported by Lightroom, Photoshop or Premier Pro.

The VRAM of this graphics chip is 4GB & it's GDDR5 interface.

I even updated the driver of the graphics to the latest version but it still doesn't work.

Old driver version - Game Ready Driver V388.59

New driver version - Game Ready Driver V391.35

Any pointers what i can try?

What a load of rubbish. I was easily running premiere pro on a low  spec lenovo 2 in 1 and now I have upgraded

to a Lenovo gaming laptop 16g ram i7 using Geforce 940M, a setup superior in every way to my previous laptop

and it can't "run" premiere pro. Premiere pro does not require a high spec computer to run.

Hi Everyone,  @Meysta Interested if you were ever able to get Premier Pro working with your 8th generation Core i7 Laptop.  I currently have a Dell Inspirion 17 with the same NVIDIA GeForce 940MX Graphics card.  I have Premiere Pro although NVIDIA GeForce doesn't appear to be compatible.  Any solutions?  Would greatly appreciate any help !!!

Hello, my problem is the same and I'm very exhausted and angry and sad about this. I've been happily using my ASUS Zenbook with Adobe for years and years. And it not only introduced the rental concept for the products, but now it's not working at all. Is it really necessary to be a computer expert to work with graphics and video? I appreciate deeply from my heart if anyone posts a link with the magic driver to be downloaded. If because of this I should buy a new computer, I think I'm abandoning Adobe. I'm a medium user and I loved the Adobe package 2017; in these last 3 years I fed up with the constant upgrading and interface and  function changes. Sorry for being so emotional; I just find myself so so so many times in the last 15 years with a 1-2 day forum searches and downloading and installing because of this kind of phenomena.  Thank you so much.
