Hi. I need to get a new iMac asap so I can start using my Adobe software properly and decided I need the 27" imac (preferably 2020 model). I was going to wait for the new larger screen M1 iMacs to come out this year but I probably wont be able to afford it as I'm on a tight budget and need a decent graphics tablet as well (all for less than £2000). So I just wanted to know if the older iMacs with Intel chips will still be compatible with Adobe software for a good few more years to come, or should I get a new M1 model?.

How old is the iMac and what are the specs? That being said what are you trying to edit?

I was looking at a refurbished iMac 5K 27" Core i5 3.1GHz 2020 with 16GB memory, 256GB SSD storage and AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4GB (GPU). I use illustrator and Photoshop the most often but i want to start using After Effects more when i get it. Ill also be doing some video/music editing. Im currently using a 2009 iMac so ive only been able to use older versions of Ps ans Ai so im really in need of a newer iMac. I will eventually get an M1 model but at the moment i can only afford an intel model. Im also going to be getting a graphics tablet soon and looking for a refurbished Wacom Cintiq 22.

The question I asked what are you tryng to edit is asking about the resolution (4K, UHD, 2K, HD etc) and the video codec (Pro Res, BRAW, H.264 etc).

All I want to know is should I buy a 27" 2020 intel iMac or should I buy an M1 iMac. I dont know what the video codec is and ive already stated that it is 5K resolution?

5K? You have a 5K camera? I think the iMac's screen is 5K but I doubt the resolution of the video files you will be editing are 5K. The video codec and resolution are important. If it is H.264 at 1920 X 1080 either system should work but you could be editing 6K BRAW for all I know.
