Premiere Pro CS6, how to deactivate old activation.

I am getting an error that says "this serial number is already in use by the maximum allowed computers...

It says I need to deactivate another computer within 30 days to use this product."

I had to re-install Premiere Pro CS6, due to a hard drive error.  I no longer have access to the old hard drive, therefore I am unable to deactivate.  Is there another way to deactivate the old activation?

I'm afraid that you may be out of luck because Adobe no longer supports CS 6.

Do you think this is a way for Adobe to get us to spend more $$ on their products?

A lot of PCs/HardDrives get lost due to theft, fire, harddrive failures, etc.,..

We purchased perpetual licenses and they should work in perpetuity....

A cynic would say, yes it is. We all know that gear fails, and most of us (if not Adobe) think that 'perpetual' licences should be exactly that. There is probably something in the (typically one-sided) EULA that claims Adobe can do what they like, but (depending where you live) this may be overridden by local consumer law. After exhausting all other options, some Community members have reported success in nudging Adobe to put things right by sending formal letters to the company, mentioning the possibility of legal action if they continued to be blocked from installing the software they had paid for. Of course, none of this should be necessary, but with a support system that typically stonewalls queries about installing older software, we are where we are. It used to be possible to ask for a supervisor to perform an activation count reset, but I've seen it claimed elsewhere on the forum that this service has been discontinued for CS6.

Not sure I'm being a cynic.  In my experience, other perpetual licenses do work in perpetuity, unless the company goes out of business or something...

I'm not saying the cynics are wrong (I'm pretty cynical about this myself). Adobe clearly would like everyone who has bought CS in the past to move to CC, and they are making it more and more difficult for anyone who hasn't done so. Several earlier versions can no longer be installed even if your activation count is zero, because the activation servers have been taken down altogether, and they no longer provide activation-free versions like they used to for CS2 and CS3. So an activation mechanism that was touted as something that was necessary to prevent pirates taking software from Adobe without paying is now being used to take software away from people who purchased it legitimately, for thousands of dollars if they bought one of the big CS compilations like the Master Collection. There's a word for that.

Adobe aren't the only company who have behaved in this way, but they are one of the biggest. Any software that requires online activation is only 'yours' as long as the company deigns to provide an activation service, and it looks like the CS6 activation service is no longer fully functional about 7 years after CS6 was last sold (I'd regard provision for activation count resets as an essential part of any respectable activation service for the reasons you mention). At some point they will almost certainly stop activating CS6 altogether. Even someone who has a functional copy of CS6 and doesn't want to move to CC should probably be assessing the alternatives at this point, like DaVinci Resolve in the case of Premiere Pro.

Understood that .

My workstation suffered hardware failures and took me a lot efforts to recovered it , guess what , premiere recognized a new mainboard as a new computer .

Tried deactivating my notebook that installed pr cs6 long time ago , failed .

Apparently adobe is keeping historical records for ever but not historical contrats .

The mighty double-standarded adobe provides manual answer service only on MON-FRI/0900-1700 .

Their AI support assistant works as an idt .

So I just wait 2 days for their final reply , if the word were no , then I would check out DaVinci , etc .
