Hi there, I'm looking for a solution to format chapter titles so that they wrap dynamically based on the length of the chapter number. The requirements are: The chapter title should start after an em space from the chapter number. The chapter title should wrap automatically without using the "indent to here" feature. For example, "CHAPTER ONE" and "CHAPTER TWELVE" should both have their titles aligned properly and wrap naturally based on the length of the chapter number. Please refer to the attached screenshot for a visual example of what I'm trying to achieve. Any help or guidance on achieving this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Bhaskar

@FRIdNGE I trust you can assist with this, as you provided a helpful workaround for a previous question of mine.

Hello, I've been attempting to configure numbered lists on the opening page in InDesign using the Paragraph's Border and Shading feature, but I haven't had any luck so far (please see the attached screenshot for reference). If there's a method to accomplish this without needing to create a separate text frame for each item in the numbered list, I'm very interested in learning about it. Thanks, Bhaskar

@James Gifford—NitroPress Thanks for your response. The book has around 600 pages, and just having an emtpy line for the questions adds another 15-20 pages, which we don't want, hence we are looking for a solution or workaround.

Hi, At the outset, I apologise if this was already answered, but I was not able to find it. Here's my question: I have a document in which the list levels 1 and 2 should appear on the same line/paragraph (please refer to the screenshot below). How can this be achieved with the list numbering feature in InDesign? If there's no direct option available, is there a workaround available without setting it manually? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there, I would like to know whether it is possible to have a single library item but the caption placement would be changed based on the page margin. The library item is: And the output should be based on the page margin: I tried the object style but without success. It would be really helpful if anyone can help on this (OR) suggest a workaround if there is no direct option available in InDesign. Thanks, Bhaskar

Hello Everyone, Sorry, if I am asking the same question that someone has already asked/answered but am not able to find it. Here is the background of the issue: We have the individual PDF files generated from InDesign and are using Apache's PDFBox (https://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.lua/pdfbox/3.0.0-alpha3/pdfbox-app-3.0.0-alpha3.jar) to merge all the PDF files into one. All are fine except the display of the page numbers in Acrobat Reader. The first chapter (that has Arabic number 1) is taking the number from the previous file (in this case, Fronmatter Roman number). Please see the screenshot below. We are aware that creating the book PDF using InDesign's book is fine but we are not using InDesign. This is not related to Acrobat softwate and we are not looking for a Acrobat solution but are looking for a solution that the open source Java library (similar to PDFBox) can handle this (OR) if something can be done in the InDesign before creating the individual PDF so that PDFBox/any other open source Java library will produce the correct output. The sample files are attached just in case. Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your answer, Rob. We are not looking for a solution within Acrobat Pro as we are not using it. We are looking for a open source JAVA library that handles this automatically. From Bob's answer, I assume that nothing can be done in InDesign to resolve it using Apache's PDFBox for merging the PDF files.

Thanks for your answer, Bob. We are not looking for a solution in Acrobat but open access library instead. I will post the question in Acrobat forum anyway and see whether I can get any answers (but again not within Acrobat).

Hi , The word document that has been used to import into InDesign has plain regular font with italic applied for some of the words in the title (please see below: the text 'Patient Safety') but the definition of the title style in the InDesign is set to bold. When importing the Word, the regular changes to bold but the italic applied has not been changed to bold italic. Is there a way/workaround to achieve this within InDesign? Word:   InDesign:

Hello, I have been trying to find an answer for the below question but did not succeed until now. Sorry if someone has already answered and I missed it. Question is: How to have footnotes tagged in XML so that it will be imported as InDesign's native footnotes? OR if it is not possible in InDesign, what would be an alternative way to achieve it? Thanks, Bhaskar

Thanks everyone (especially Barb and Colin) for your answers and responses. I can use Colin's solution but still I need further help on this. By following Colin's solution, I can have a shape for the entire paragraph but there are cases where after the shape with text there could be additional regular text (please refer the first portion of the picture that I have shared earlier and given below for immediate reference). Can this be done too? Thanks again for all your help on this.

Hi Uwe, Thanks for your response on this. I have tried it but still I will have to do more work to achieve this like putting the text on the text-frame and move it to the paragraph where it should go (like you did) – seems like the same work to be done when using Type on a Path. Let me try to ask differently: the manuscript that I have received has the paragraph with indications of the answers along with the rule length (everything has been mentioned within square brackets - please see the picture below). Now, is there a way in InDesign to simply transfer this to the desired layout. Thanks again for any help you or anybody can provide on this.

Hi there, Is there any way to have the below design/shape with using paragraph style options like shading / border / rule (and without actually drawing it)? Please note that the shape has to be extended based on the text. Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Hi All, I am seeking for a solution to layout the book with write on lines. The book has to have a different length of the line based on the answers text (please refer the picture below). For example, if the answer is just a character then the line length should be 6 mm and if it is a word then the length of the line should be 23 mm. If the answers are beyond these lengths then it can be extended to fit the text. When using type on a path, I will have to draw it and put the text on it and then insert it into the paragraph where it is required which is taking very much time and does not seem a good work to do. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that the interactive PDF doesn't support scrollable frame but I would like to have it in my PDF generated from InDesign. It would be helpful if someone can suggest a best workaround in InDesign to have it in PDF. I have tried to have it using show/hide but would like to have a better solution. It would also be helpful if you can mention the issues (if known) that may arise when viewing it in different PDF readers. Thanks in advance for your help.

We have installed InDesign Server CC 2019 on a MAC server to test it and have noticed that there's no default LBQ/Jobqueue. Are we missing something here during the installation (I have also retried to install but there's no option - anything hidden?) / somewhere. Is it possible to install it separately. We would like to use the LBQ. Please suggest.
