No I didn't. The only remedy I've had so far is to restart Illustrator.

It's a 2019 Mac Pro. It doesn't matter if I use a command key or select the tool in the toolbar. Switching is not an issue. The icon showing incorrectly is a problem. There are times that I think I am selecting an object or point and it zooms instead because the wrong tool icon is showing. As for working in safe mode, that will reaquire me to work for hours in safe mode. Not something that I can do right now. I can't nail down a pattern of when or how this occurs. It seems random. It might take several hours of working in a file for it to happen, and it might happen within the first half hour or so.

This has been happening for several versions of Illustrator, but after working in a file for a while, my zoom tool will suddenly show the Selection tool black arrow icon instead of the magnifying glass icon. I'm currently running Mac OSX 13.6, and Illustrator Version 28. As I said this has been happening for several versions, over the last year. If I quit Illustrator and then restart it, it's fine again for a while, and then it will suddenly revert to this behavior. Any ideas about a fix for this? Has anyone else seen this happen?

Regardless of where the responsibility for the issue lies, it's really a pain. Especially since we typically have lots of linkd files placed, and having to re-link everything can be more work that we typically don't really have time for.

Thank you. That was very helpful. Just FYI this only just started happening in the last two weeks, and we've been working like this for years. Weird.

Please explain why it happens with only one Mac out of seven in the department. And why does this not happen with other software that we use?

I hear you about the server. It's a pain to have to manually copy files over every night so they can get backed up. It would be nice if Adobe could get into the 21st century regarding network access.

I don't know about the OP, but I am having the same issue and I am working on a network server. There are 4 other artists in the department that are not having the same issue. I am on MacOS 10.15.7, and Illustrator version 26.4.1.

I've been on many different Macs over the years. 2013 Mac Pro, 2 different iMacs. Have had these issues for many years, I think that includes El Capitan, but at this point that's a bit fuzzy, but I can tell you that these issues existed since Sierra for sure. I have no idea if it's an Adobe or Apple issue. My impression is that if you use nVidia GPUs then these issues don't exist, but Apple stopped using them years ago.

I have a brand new Mac Pro running the latest version of Mac OS Catalina and I run into many things that require me to turn off the GPU acceleration in Photoshop and Illustrator. Bugs in those programs have required me to revert to earlier versions many times. This is not something new, I've seen it over several OS, Photoshop and Illustrator versions. Unfortunately the only thing I find that works is to turn it off when you need to, then turn it back on when you're done with that particular task.

This was fixed with 10.14.1 but has returned in 10.14.2. Previously it only affected Photoshop CC2019, but now it does the same in CC2018 as well. It must be Apple graphics card drivers.

The same thing happened for me, but then I upgraded to Mojave 10.14.2 and the artifacts are back in both CC2019 and CC 2018! So don't upgrade yet if you use liquify.

Same here. Previously after upgrading from Mac OS 10.14 to 10.14.1 the brush lag seemed to disappear. Now that I've installed 20.0.1 it's back.

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.14.1 this morning and that seems to have solved the issue for me, as well as solving the lagging brush issue. But yes, the Adobe workaround basically made the tool worthless.

We've already confirmed admin rights to those folders. This is an intermittent issue. If permissions were the issue then wouldn't it be a constant issue?

For me, it happens when I save to our department SAN. If I save locally, I don't see the issue. Using Mac OSX SIerra 10.12.6, and Illustrator 22.0.1. This was never an issue prior to upgrading to Illustrator 2018.

I have had this issue for years, and on several versions of Mac OS. Currently still having the issue running 10.12.5 on a Mac Pro. Saving to a SAN. I can save to my desktop, then copy over with no issues. I'm thinking this is more of an Adobe issue than a MacOS issue. I experience this with all Adobe apps that I use, and have not had this issue with any other applications.
