ajwfrost75 My last hold out with Adobe AIR was to see if a WebAssembly target would be offered since Flash Player is ending. In my opinion, it would be irresponsible not to. I'll be waiting to see if HARMAN adds this as a target.

Absolutely, caching won't help on the front end which is why Adobe needs to address their Exporter with serious optimizations. Importing graphics from Illustrator to Animate is nothing new. The exporter should be able to handle this efficiently regardless of how slow the resulting javascript might be. Authoring for Flash handled this like a champ, so why not for HTML5 canvas?

I also have this same problem. However, my artwork is not coming from Illustrator and Spritesheet is not used. Everything is drawn in Animate and being optimized for HTML5 using "Cache as bitmap". This is a preferred method to create the bitmap at runtime and not lose the editing ability in Animate if I were to convert everything to Bitmap. There is no question the exporter needs some serious optimizing! Ideally, we should be able to generate the javascript at the same rate as a swf file and allow the user to optimize for filesize if needed. Is anyone working regularly on the HTML5 Canvas export? Is there plans to optimize this?

Certainly a valid point, but I'm thinking more in the terms of promoting AIR and it's abilities and what people are doing with it. There should be demos of projects and discussions on the capabilities at every Adobe MAX. This is not foreign to Adobe MAX. This helps to promote the viability of AIR so others can see what's possible and perhaps make AIR part of a business development stack. Currently, AIR is shoved in a corner and anyone new to development likely has no idea that AIR exists.

Thanks for the list Chris, but the lack of any mention towards an HTML output solution remains concerning to everyone. A statement needs to be made on this. This is not just a Flash Player thing, but an ActionScript issue and it's future. No response to a gaping hole seems irresponsible.

Sure, I'm not managing the Adobe AIR team and that's irrelevant. We are merely discussing what we think the AIR Team should focus on. In my opinion, with everyone now looking to move away from flashplayer since mobile is dominating the browser space, mobile and html should be at the forefront of everything as targets from AIR. If everyone continues to move away in favor of other tech meeting their needs then there won't be any AIR Team resources to manage. Adobe needs to re-grip it's dominance in the browser space again as it did with flash player.

I do believe the idea of this post is to produce an HTML TARGET from AIR. Currently, WebAssembly is nowhere near ready for anything. However, that doesn't mean Adobe shouldn't be at the forefront of exploring this option and getting feedback from the community. With that said, I also believe Adobe should also be working on an immediate javascript / WebGL target from AIR. Of course it won't have everything that AIR does, but it could satisfy a large majority of businesses that are moving away from ActionScript due to a lack of this very feature. Currently, Adobe's only effort is to provide a lackluster Animate export for Canvas and WebGL written in vanilla javascript. No one working in ActionScript wants to re-write their entire codebase in javascript.
