Line-height for a single line of text

I understand that now it is impossible to change the line-height for a single line of text, it is possible only for the entire text block. Will this feature be implemented in the future?

Currently line-height applies to the entire text box and cannot be set by line or paragraph. I'd love to see this change to at least applying to a paragraph, if not line by line.

driving me crazy...

  • text does get aligned in the middle if line height is increased - always on top
  • point text line spacing never works
  • example: for an 8pt grid, a 16pt font size has a height of 19. increasing the line height to 24 does not change anything.
  • alignment with other objects goes for a toss, because of this

nowhere a simple answer is found...

Hey guys, we've been having the same issues for some time now and we're totally fed up of it (along with hideous performance and library component linking issues). It's causing so many unnecessary conversations with development teams due to wrong line heights causing inconsistent margins etc. As UI/UX designers and a product that is developed in web technologies it's should match how CSS line-height are rendered.

We are a web based company, have been for a long time and will always be so it's very importen to us that this was fixed. It hasn't been and Adobe are very quiet on this front esp. surprising after so much negativity about this. We're currently buiding a globally distributed Design System and this is crucial for global consistency and brand application.

With this said, we are currently reviewing our Adobe toolset with the look to move away from XD and take all UI/UX designers within the business with us. Gobally, this is north of around 40 designers and this doesn't include the rapid expansion of the company where there is a considerable number of new vancancies for UI & UX designers.

The tool we're looking to move to is Figma. XD cannot survive without some critical, core updates. People aren't always interested about the shiney new features when productivity is stiffled due to missing, basic requirements.

So, I thought I would post an update after a few months.

Our company process for software procurement is quite convoluted but with that said, we have built a POC of our design system in Figma. It has been fruitful and we've put a very strong business case together for us to move over to Figma alongside financial savings. This will result in the imminent cancellation of 30+ licenses within Adobe CC.

In the product design team, we will be maintaining our Adobe licenses temporarily until we are fully converted over to Figma and then we will stop using XD, completely. This is currently just in the European space but there are other offices around the world that have registered interest in Figma and have stated "Once you move over, we will follow suit", this will then exceed the orignal 40+ designers I originally mentioned. XD is just not optimal enough and the line-height issue (just one of many issues) causes so much confusion between design teams and development and is just added "noise" that really isn't needed.

XD still isn't being updated, if anything, it's slowed down. Figma is ruling this area so much so that it's now being shipped with Chromebooks for education purposes.

Adobe have lost this battle for now, if you read this your starting your journey in UI or UX or your business is new and your looking at tooling, take a look at Figma. Save the heartache & frustration of using XD.
