When you organize multi-tracks, it's a good practice to assign color labels to tracks relative to the same instrument or instrument's family.
We have to do so track by track that can be time consuming.
Enable the possibility to group tracks to assign them a color in one click.
It could be also useful to modify gain of all the tracks of a group in a single click.

This is actually a really common feature in other DAWs. I started out on Acid Pro (actually while it was in public beta...Sonic Foundry...memories...) it let you put tracks in folders, so you could fold and unfold them (as you can with code in IDEs), which was invaluable when working on a big mix. This is one of those areas where I feel like Audition was made for people to produce podcasts or voiceovers, and not serious "from the ground up" production and composition. Evidence for this include the 5 votes this feature suggestion has. That's just crazy...unless there is another suggestion elsewhere in the uservoice.

It's really a shame, since Audition has some really unique features that would probably lead some people to it from other DAWs but for the fact that it misses some glaring workflow improvements like this. Seriously...5 votes in 1.5 years? Audition is the only multitrack DAW I can think of that doesn't do this.

And it should be possible to turn off a group of tracks so that Audition is not doing any calculations on them. When I have a lot of tracks and am pushing the limits of my computer's CPU and RAM I'd like to be able to tell Audition to temporarily only consider a subset of them and totally ignore the rest. It seems like that would free up resources.
Groups should also be able to be vertically zoomed independently, so ones that aren't going to be looked at in detail can stay at the minimum size even if others are zoomed in.
And groups should be able to be collapsed to take up only one track's worth of screen space if I don't need to see the individual tracks.

I imagine this working like groups in Illustrator, where you can lock a group to avoid moving/changing/selecting it, you can isolate a group so you can work on its contents without affecting anything else, and you can hide a group so you can focus on other items in the art.

Yeah, would love to have this feature. Just started working in Audition for a project and seeing things I wish were there. This is one of them.
