P: Auto Mask brush not auto-masking

Community Beginner ,
Mar 02, 2023 Mar 02, 2023

Since the latest update (12.2) Auto Mask while using brush seems to not auto mask.
I've been trying to mess around with GPU acceleration and without. Same issue regardless.
I've heard about this problem from another user aswell.

MacBook Pro 16" 2019
6-core i7 2.6Ghz

Radeon 5300M 4GB

I can confirm the bad behavior and have logged a bug with the Classic team.
Curiously the Eraser does work properly with automask enabled.

Camera Raw is not affected. Your workaround until the bug fix is released is to move the raw file to Camera Raw for any brushing requiring automask.

Agree! Worked better before.

Moving to camera raw while waiting for a fix is not a practical solution as the whole point with auto masking, at least to me, ok s about speed and greater volumes of raw files.

Hopefully this is is fixed sooner than later 👍.

Awesome!

I'm part of a business in Sweden with about 170 photographers doing real-esate gigs. Pretty much all of us (or our editors) rely on this feature every day. A hasty fix would be much appreciated.

@Daniel2709176891zy I don't know if it will help but Lightroom Desktop also appears unaffected.

Is anyone on this thread still seeing this issue?

Yep, still there. Does not mask at all.

Any chance you can record us a quick video showing the area you are painting and supply the original raw file as well?

Just noticed it will not work at all with HDR files made in LR (dng). I've attatched both the canon RAW file and the DNG file plus a video in this dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nnp17zta3vuaddr/AABDn3dwsYAeejz9eH1xcBHwa?dl=0

I noticed that the RAW file had some auto-mask capabilities, but it seems to bleed over to similar parts that are separated by a hard edge. You'll see in the video.

I've moved on to use other masking methods in my work since the automask brush broke. Especially the new object masking tool. It's very helpful.
