P: Delay after selecting Export

Community Beginner ,
Oct 22, 2022 Oct 22, 2022

Hey guys !

After the latest update, I'm facing a rather annoying problem. After I do all my export settings and press EXPORT Button, LR seems to time out for a couple of minutes (and don't respond) until it starts the export. After that the export time is quick as usual !

Update:@johnrellis
I was finally able to repro this on an older Win 10 system. I will update the investigation bug with the new information.

Update: Newer posts by some customers indicate that a drop shadow on a text watermark will induce bad behavior. I've tested and see no evidence of that based upon the information provided so far.

Testing on a Mid 2022 Macbook Pro M1 using OS 12.6 and LrC 12.0.1

  1. Create a Watermark with Text containing a drop shadow.
  2.  Export 23 raw files to full size JP

Hello comunity,

I upgraded yesterday to Lightroom Classic v12 and export isn't slow but starting export is very slow. It takes from 20 to 30 seconds to start exporting only 1 image. (when previously it started with no lag). I mean starting the process and not the export in it self.

Anybody had this?

Thanks,

D.

I have the same issue for the import of files.
File transfer is slow from a local harddisk (SSD) to the NAS and then for 20 - 30 seconds nothing happens before the import of the files from the NAS starts. The import of the files is very slow too.
Same issue happens with 11.4.1 earlier.
MacOS 12.6, macMini M1 with 16GB ram.

As a troubleshooting step, try setting the option Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor  to Custom and then unchecking Use GPU For Export -- do you get similar delays?

I will make some additional tests with different settings of GPU support

@johnrellis Thanks for this very helpful information.

@Norbert Bazin, please do the menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here. That will let us see the precise hardware and driver versions.

"But should't this be in the "Bugs" section?"

Adobe reserves the Bugs section for issues that can be reliably reproduced by their development team or that have many people reporting the same symptoms -- if it can't be reproduced or just a few people have reported it, then the post will get moved soon enough back to Discussions.   That's why it's important to consolidate all the threads and gather information like Help > System Info.

Is there a way to go back to LrC 11? It's impossible to work like this.

Thanks.

Merci d´avance.

"Will we be notified here when they fix the problem"

Unfortunately, probably not, unless Adobe converts this thread to a bug report (i.e. it's discovered how to reproduce the problem on more configurations or many more people report it).  I can only suggest paying attention to the Creative Cloud notifications when you run LR that a new release is available and then checking the release notes.  The release notes at LightroomQueen.com are much easier to read and usually more comprehensive than Adobe's marketing blurbs.

I'm using LrC to Version 12 on Windows 11 and do not experience what you are describing. My only suggestion would be to check your export options and ensure that the final option specifies "Do Nothing" or the French equivalent. Sorry that I don't have any better ideas.

A couple others have reported similar symptoms. Initial troubleshooting steps:

1. Do the menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here. That will let us see the precise hardware and driver versions.

2. As a troubleshooting step, try setting the option Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor  to Custom and then unchecking Use GPU For Export -- do you get similar delays?
