P: Hover on Folder no longer shows complete path

Community Beginner ,
Mar 05, 2023 Mar 05, 2023

Hello,

I am trying to see the full file path for a photo in grid view. By itself, the full path should appear when I hover over the folder field.

Actually, the full path should be displayed, but nothing is displayed. The hand appears, but no path.

Hovering does not seem to work.

Thank you

If you change the Metadata Fields in Default to show "Absolute File Path" the hover will show the whole file path.

This feels like a bug to me. I've logged it with the team. Thanks for the reports.

The full path is never available in grid or loupe view, as far as I know.

If you want to see exactly where the file is located, your have two choices: look to the folder panel in Lightroom Classic, to see which folder it's in, or if you need more detail than what's shown in Lightroom's Folder panel, right click the image and choose "Show in Explorer" (for Windows, of "Show in Finder" for Mac).

In the grid itself there was no hover functionality, but I had the impression that the full path was shown when I hovered over the 'Folder' field in the Metadata area to the right of the grid.

Yes, that did used to work (hover over Folder in the Metadata panel) in earlier versions. Not sure when it stopped, and if that is by design or is a bug.

Hover over the folder name in the Folders Panel still works, however,

True, but that to me is a very clunky way around what I see as a bug. Most of the fields in the Metadata Panel (when using my preferred EXIF & IPTC template) show a tool tip on hover, even though in most cases it's utterly pointless, but Folder does not. It used to do that in earlier versions, so it was either dropped deliberately (which makes no sense) or it's a bug.

This worked prior to LR 11.0, when the new customizable Metadata panel was introduced. Here's a screenshot from 10.4 showing it working:

I confirmed that hovering over Absolute File Path and Folder in the Metadata panel once again shows the full file path in a tooltip in my LR 13.5.
