We are marking this issue as fixed as it seems most customers are saying the recent update fixed it for them.

IF you are still having the original issue, please start a new thread so we can try to narrow down why the update didn't fix it for you.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Can you think of anything that might be common to all of your systems?

Do you have any plugins not on my list? I am using the beta version as my defualt since they fixed the color picker problem, and added Hover Layer Bounds.  No crashes so far.

In my case the problem is Dxo Nik Collection. Disabling this plugin allows Photoshop Beta to load. This wasn't a problem with the previous beta version.

The latest version (PS 25.8, m2581) is not opening for me, either.  I tried numerous times, isntalling and re-installing.  Had to resort to current non-Beta version.  Also, can re-install prior Beta version, and it works fine.  I am using Windows 11 and I do have the current DxO Nik Collection.  How to do I diable plug-ins if I cannot open the program?

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing and will see if the team can find out what might have changed on our end to cause this.

Also, here is a doc since this issue has shown itself from time to time:

I disabled DxO Nik Collection and I was able to load the latest PS Beta. I went to DxO to see if I had the latest version of Nik Collection and I did. The previous version of PS Beta 25.8 played nicely with Nik. So it seems something changed with version m2581.

We think we may have an idea of what's going wrong.

Have you installed an optional copy of ScriptingListener.8li in the following folder at some time in the past?

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Required\Plug-ins\Extensions

A recent change we made to Photoshop is incompatible with this file.

If you are still experiencing the condition where Photoshop crashes at startup, please try moving ScriptingListener.8li to another folder somewhere else for safe keeping (or delete it); move it completely OUT from under the Photoshop Required folder.

We would be interested to hear back about whether this resolves the issue for you.

Thanks.

I checked and ScriptingListener.8li is not in the extensions folder.

I have the same issue and I have DxO. Will be interested to learn of any fix to be able to update. Presently in the process of  installing the previous version that was working perfectly well.

Any update regarding this issue?  I keep getting prompts to update Photoshop Beta, but I don't want to do it if the problem is not yet fixed.  Is it a compatibility issue with Nik and Photoshop?  I use Nik all the time as part of my workflow and will have to stick with older Photoshop versions until this is resolved.  How will we know when it is fixed?

@Devonian are you able to use the release version of Ps, do you have the same issue?  If not, use the general release Ps version until an update to Ps beta is announced, or rollback to the previous version as others have noted here.

Thanks,

Hallo @aLL!

Dirk

I don't have a Google file in Presets for Photoshop beta because I have a current, paid version of Nik Collection.  Does that mean I have to remove the Nik plugins?  If so, does that mean I can no longer use Nik Collection in Photoshop beta.  That does not seem like a good option because Nik Collection is soemthing I paid for and is part of my usual workflow.

It cracks me up that Adobe Max is having a big presentation touting the power or Photoshop beta, but they fail to mention that it does not open!

I am using the prior beta version 25.7 m2575, and everything works fine in there.  The release version (25.6) works fine, too.
