P: White squares/Boxes appear

I have been having this annoying problem for several weeks now. None of the solutions on the internet work at all. If this is your first time reading about this problem, these are the solutions I've seen so far (none of them is a real solution, each one causes other problems):

- Uncheck "Use graphics processor" in the performance tab in configuration. Result: It disables the rotating canvas features for Wacom tablets after a couple of minutes or just instantly.

- Check "Deactivate native canvas" and/or "Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)" in technology previews tab. Result: It becomes absurdly lagged, it is useless to work, just moving the canvas makes it go at 1fps.

I also have all my drivers updated (GPU, Windows, Wacom), PS updated, and with priority for the GPU. Is there any real solution for this? I have an RTX 3080 8 GB. This should not happen.

Once I did these steps, my Photoshop stopped working on any of my saved files. Every time I tried to open an project, I got a error message and the program shutted himself down, and just returned working when I reversed this configuration.

Hi @kevin stohlmeyer, as I mentioned in the post, I already tried that, and I consider that it is not a solution because it only creates more problems. That just makes Photoshop very slow and makes it impossible to work. Just moving the canvas or zooming in and out becomes laggy.

Hi @santiagos33828144 Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data.

After latest update those pesky white and black squares are back!!!!!!!!!!!! They go away when I toggle a layer's visibility, but really... shouldn't have to!

When exporting images in PNG or JPG, random white squares appear throughout the image. Sometimes it happens when merging layers, the image turns into several colored squares. I've already tried closing Photoshop and even uninstalling it, it works for a while and everything comes back again, I've lost several jobs like that.

Hey, @Sergio35305293zbtr. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here. 

I'll move this to discussions for now. Does this happen after a specific series of steps? 

Does this happen to the exported images that are out of Photoshop? Or does it happen while the image is still in Photoshop, in the Export As window, or on the canvas? 

If it happens while the image is still in Photoshop, try this:
Go to Edit > Preferences (CTRL + K) > Performance > Advanced Settings > Disable 'GPU Compositing' & restart Photoshop & check if it helps.

If it happens after the image is exported, where was the original document stored & what is the export destination? Internal or External drive?

The 'Use Older GPU Mode (2016)' is nowhere to be found in Photoshop 2024. The white squares are absolutely everywhere, so irritating. Especially when working in artboards they seem to appear frequently while moving / editing text boxes.

I have 2019 Macbook Pro, with AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4G. 

I hope you can help me solve this.

It could be listed as "Older GPU mode (pre 2016)" in Preferences/Technology Previews? Not on a Mac tho, so it could be that Adobe didn't include that option for your version of Mac/OS.

You can also try what  @kevin stohlmeyer recommended in their comment below: Check "Disable Native Canvas" (also in Preferences/Technology Previews).

@MDIJK  update to 25.2 or newer and go to Preferences/Technology Preview and check "Disable Native Canvas". I agree @Ahmed25848404i8ph using "older GPU" does slow it down significantly but you shouldn't have to use that if the first option works.

I can only spot 92% memory allowed to Photoshop, try to lower that to 70% in Preferences > Performance. There is also newer driver.

"I've been dealing with this frustrating problem for some time now. Every time I use brushes, text, shapes, etc., this issue arises out of nowhere. Temporarily solving the problem by hiding and unhiding the layer, but as soon as I make any adjustments with the text or brushes, it happens again. Another thing is My PC has 24GB of RAM, a 6500XT GPU, and a Ryzen 5500 CPU, but even with all the updated drivers and the latest version of Photoshop, I still experience lagging and frequent freezing while using the software.
