Premiere Pro - Preview continually freezing

Community Beginner ,
Sep 03, 2023 Sep 03, 2023

Hi,

I have an issue with my preview on Premiere Pro : it freezes too often and the only thing I can do when it happens is to restart my project, which can be very tedious when it's a big project with a lot to clips to load. The thing is, all seems to be good EXCEPT the preview that is freezing, all the project is usable, I can naviguate as easily as always but I can't have the preview. I've also checked all the performances in the task manager and there is nothing to report, neither my CPU nor my memory reach more than 30%.

So, here is my computer setup :

- CPU : Intel i7-11700F 2,50GHz

- GPU : NVIDIA GeForce 3060 Ti

- 32Gb RAM

And, for Premiere Pro :

- Using GPU acceleration

- Preview in Apple ProRes 422 LT

- Always previewing on the minimum resolution (1/4 on HD and 1/8 in 4K)

Everything is on latest version, my drivers, Premiere Pro...

Thank you for your help !

Hi @Enzo320471235wzs,

Sorry about this issue. Can you give us info about the media you are using? Any other info about your workflow you wish to share? Feel free to PM me so I can get a copy of your project file. I hope I can help you.

Thanks,

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, I don't think it would help to send you any project because this is happening on all my projects. I work mostly on video rushes in 4k (XAVC S codec from Sony Alpha cameras), and always do proxies to work. Everything is smooth when I work like this but when the freeze happens I have to reload Premiere Pro.

Tell me if you still want to see a project of mine.

Hi @Enzo320471235wzs,

Sorry. I missed that you said that you are using proxies. You really shouldn't be having problems with playback. How do you have your audio hardware preferences set up? If you set the Input to "No Input," does the problem subside? Let me know. Another test to try is to use H.264 proxies instead of ProRes ones. If the H.264 ones work better, please let us know.

A screen recording would be helpful to see what your issue looks like. I hope the community can help.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello !

I am on "No Inputs". I will try to edit on "Asio" and not "MME" to see if it solves the problem. And I will try H.264 proxies also, thank you for the tip. I will come back to you if the problem is solved or not.

Thank you !

Ok so it didn't take so long to verify, even when changing from MME to Asio, and with proxy in H.264 I still have the problem. What's even crazier is that this is on a very small project in HD, so even in proxy of a HD media I have this freezes...

Hey so I've been having the same problem and I tried every solution that people have posed on the internet to no avail.

But I fixed it and here's how: I turned proxies off. Crazy right? Proxies are supposed to prevent things like this from happening but it was actually causing the problem for me. Let me know if it works for you
