The Clone & Heal tool is really great. I really find it easy to use. It would be great to be able to rotate the healed/cloned area. This would be really useful for blending lines. I hope it's clear what I'm trying to ask for, any questions give me a shout.
I think this idea complements the "healing brush" feature request.
As a matter of fact, if one could distort the form of spot removal circles into longish structures and could rotate contents from source to destination that would go a long way to better distraction removal support.
It would be way better to have this than no distraction removal support at all. Even though the respective feature request is the most popular on these pages, it isn't "Under Consideration" yet. I hope that means that work on it is already underway and Adobe is just playing their cards close to their chest.
New distraction removal brush in Lr5(beta) is a big step in the right direction, in my opinion, since it supports irregularly shaped distractions (instead of just spots n' specks...), but you still can't rotate source area to get edges to line up better - oh well, one step at a time...
Now that we have the ability to paint different shapes with the clone and heal brush it would be great if we could now rotate the brush after the initial area has been painted. This is needed when trying to clone in lines on a photograph where the angle of a line is different in the 2 areas.
For clone and heal tools, after you create a shape, and at which it picks a place to clone (or heal), you can move it around and choose a different location. It would be very useful to be able to not only move around that clone or heal shape, but to rotate it. That would be very useful for landscapes. For instance, on a golf course, the grass meeting a sand trap. If there's round shapes, as most sand traps are, there's not usually a good duplicate angle of grass to sand. I'd imagine this proposed feature would be useful for a lot more than landscapes.
All too often when I'm cloning/healing an area of an image in Lightroom the best source area elsewhere in the image has a different perspective or angle (e.g. edges of clothing & skin, wires, brickwork, floor tiles, etc) and I'm therefore unable to use it to heal the area, which is pretty frustrating and means I have to decide between not bothering (and being irked by the area that I know could be improved) or shelling out to another app (e.g. Photoshop) to retouch the area.
Instead, I'd like Lightroom's clone/heal brush to let me paint the target area in the usual way and then manipulate the correspondingly selected source area via rotation (and ideally also scaling) to match the underlying geometry.
Surely this wouldn't be hard to implement on top of the existing functionality but it would make a HUGE difference to the quality of retouching I'd be able to achieve in Lightroom.
I wish we could mirror and rotate a cloning zone while using it. Let's say I need to clone reflections on someone's glasses and I want to use the opposite eye as a base, there is no way to do it without some layer work and copy pasting.
Any updates on the ability to rotate the spot removal tool? So many times I'm trying to remove something from a curved area and copy and past from spot removal doesn't match the curve. If I could just rotate what's being copied a bit, wouldn't have to use photoshop. This features is SO SO SO NEEDED. Any chance we can vote this one up the chain for next release???
PS. Dear God, people have been asking for this feature (rotate spot healing tool) for over 5 YEARS NOW!!! How does one actually get heard on this forum so we can actually get this passed to the next release????

You need to understand how this works. Requests can be voted for, so Adobe gets an idea how many people would want this. It’s not that they don’t listen, but they cannot honor each and every request that all xxx million Lightroom users can come up with. This request got 17 votes in those 5 years...
We should be able to rotate the sample source for the healed or cloned area, so that when trying to work on curves, we can have them line up correctly.
Either by rotating the source or having a slide to rotate the applied image in the heal area.
For example if you’re trying to heal or clone something out on the edge of a circle, then sampling another area of that circle will give you an edge mismatch.
In the attachment you can see the edge doesn’t line up and the angle is wrong and doesn’t join back up at the end of the heal, being able to rotate it would go a long way to fixing it.
I totally agree, the ability to rotate the healed area would be hugely useful. As a bonus, the software could even try to do it automatically if it detects a clear shape in the source area.

Could we have a rotation option in the healing / cloning tool.
Example: You have just removed someone from an image but the edit left an area that needs to be cloned back in.However the area you want to copy from is curved and is a mirror image of the target image to be cloned back .If you could rotate or flip the cloned area to match the target area it would make this tool very versitile for that editing situation..Thank you...
How on earth has this not been implemented yet?!?!?! how many versions of LR do we need before this is put in? its such an oversight to not be able to rotate the heal/clone tool - you cannot use it for anything that requires a line or a curve, sort it out adobe!

There is no magic number that guarantees Adobe will implement a change. Nor do they make any promises to do so.
But the longer a post floats around here, with very few votes, the more the likelihood the team will simply ignore even considering the feature.
Even the very few of us who've been beta testers for Adobe for nearly 30 years and ask the team for features often find we don't get what we ask for.

I can't do the impossible, which was explained: no number of votes guarantees a feature request will become real.
And Adobe has never promised anywhere that X number of votes will produce a feature.
Facts: Some Adobe team members monitors votes. When a vote total after 12 years is a mere 40, your best tactic is to get more votes. But again, it does not guarantee anything gets done.

If that were what I wanted, I'd have it shut down. I don't. I want you to understand how this 'system' works, and I'm strongly suggesting you get more votes tallied. And I'm explaining why, after 12 years, you haven't seen any change; it isn't guaranteed and was never promised to be.
I'm sorry if I offended you with my experience, expertise, and facts.
