To transfer a library book from Adobe Digital Editions to my Kobo e-reader, I am told to authorize my computer. When I try and do this it asks for my Adobe ID and Password. I give both but am then told "you can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile devices. Please try again". I only have one Adobe ID and password so what am I supposed to do. "Please try again" is an idiot answer. Anybody have a solution? Thanks, Tony

Hello - I don't know why, but this does not work for me. I am on a Mac useing 10.14.6. I continue to get the 'E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY' error. I am also not able to 'erase authorization' as this option is not found in the help file and nothing at all happens when I hit COMMAND+SHIFT+D.
Any help that might be availalbe would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks very much.

Thanks very much Nanaky. As it turns out I found an alternative method whereby I "deauthorized"and then "reauthorized" Adobe Digital Editions as per following steps (A little less dangerous maybe than messing about with the Registry?):
1.Right click the title of the book that caused the error. 2. Click Remove from Library; 3. Press Ctrl- Shift-D keys; 4. Click Erase Authorization; 5. Click Help then Authorize Computer; 6. Enter your Adobe ID and Password; 7. Click on Authorize.
Try reloading the book from the pubic Library and if it fails, try a different book as sometimes books will not download even if there is a not a Adobe Digital Editions problem.

I tried this method as well and am still getting the message that My eReader is not authorized to open the book. I can read it on my computer, but the book is black on my kobo.

Brilliant thank you, Nanaky. I spend two afternoons on chat with Adobe who eventually said they couldn't answer problems about ADE on my note pad (alias a mini laptop) - so I'd better try the community.
My problem was slightly different - creating a new account on Adobe and downloading the lastest version of ADE didn't stop my note pad from insisting I had to authorise with an email address I stopped using 5 years ago.
For anyone like me - a bit scared of mucking about with the registry - don't worry. On this occasion the instructions were clear - and I had no doubt that they would work.
e-books now work helping with coronavirus social distancing.
All the best to all. Chris
