CS6 AppCrash on Windows 8.1 Preview

Hi,

I have recently installed the Windows 8.1 Preview. I have also installed the Adobe Creative Cloud which replaced Application Manager, the CC updated the Dreamweaver CS6.

But strangely the Dreamweaver constantly crashes on start up, no recommended settings of backward compatability seems to work.

I am now considering either installing the dreamweaver on a virtual machine so I can still use it on my system or revert my system back to Windows 8 and remove the preview 8.1.

The error details the programm error event as "APPCRASH" I am not sure what it means, but I have submitted the error to microsoft error reporting.

Any advice if I can get the Dreamweaver working without the need for reverting back to old system?

Had the same problem, most Adobe CC programs freeze up on Windows 8.1 preview. I went back to Windows 8 and all is well again.

Unless you post a full log of the crash there's nothing anyone can do for you. Using a beta OS is not recommended other than for testing, so if you are not interested in testing and logging bugs like this on a regular basis it is highly recommended you wait for a full release of the new operating system.

My experience with Windows 8.1.

Windows update recommended it, so I allowed the install.

My AVG stopped working immediately and when I tried to update it, Windows said it was "incompatible" (even though it was installed and working in 8.0).

Acrobat X Pro stopped working, and Windows said it was "incompatible" (even though it was installed and working in 8.0).

Dw, Fw, Ps, and Au (CS5.5) ALL stopped working after 8.1 was in place, and Windows said they were "incompatible" (even though they were installed and working in 8.0).

Windows 8.1, like nearly EVERYTHING Microsoft releases WAS NOT FULLY OR PROPERLY TESTED prior to release and it turns out that post release, it's pure doo-doo.

My solution was to reformat and reload WIn 8 and turn off Windows updates altogether. I really didn't want this laptop with 8 on it, but nobody's selling anything with 7 on it for less than an arm and a leg anymore.

If (IF) you can "roll back" to 8.0, by all means, DO SO! I was unable to and reformatting was my only choice.

Windows 8.1 is still in beta and Microsoft like to call it "Preview". The final version will come out later this year and preview should only be used in a test environment for people developing products and applications for the new Operating System.

Microsoft has stopped releasing Service Packs and from now onwards we'll get new versions of operating system with all the patches and sometimes new features bundled with it.

I am using 8.1 on my laptop but I don't use nor have registered for Adobe CC so I have no comments to make about the crashes.

I always install beta versions on spare systems to test out issues before major releases. This time just happen to install on my main laptop.

I was able to resolve the issue after following the page details below:

Warning: The steps may take more than 3 hours depending on the hard drive size.

Note that, if you shut down your laptop, you may have to repeat these steps, as the app crash reapprears, happen to me once. Not a good solution but something that passes the day.

Not sure how much you know about "sfc /scannow" but if you have to resort to a system file check to fix something, your OS is pooched in 999 out of 1000 cases.

In any case you're troubleshooting production software issues in a beta (non production and unsupported) operating system. Not too good.
That's like building your own ECM and putting it in a brand new car... and then expecting the manufacturer to warranty it as if it was theirs.

lol, I am not pointing as if it's a Dreamweaver's fault. I am just reporting a bug I noticed.

I have posted the similar details on Microsoft website regarding Explorer and IE with this beta version of windows, for which I have found a solution.

I don't believe the Dev Team of Dreamweaver will wait till the last day of launch of new OS before starting to look into new issues or bugs.

Open Control Panel
Select Devices and Printers
Remove all Multimedia devices.
1. When you right click on device name, you will see an option of removing the device.
