DW windows are always at front

Whatever I have open, Dreamweaver windows are always on top, and in the way.

It's always been like this, but it's taken a while for me to get annoyed enough to complain and seek a solution. What's going on here? Seems like such a basic issue for a big company like Adobe to let slip through. Or am I missing something? Is there an "annoyingly bring all windows to front no matter what" button to uncheck?

Latest DW and OS, on an M1 Mac Mini but it was like this under previous systems and versions also.

Also, the 'files' window is always at the front of any page window. Which is also a pain.

Which version of DW?

Which operating system?

How many displays do you have?

Maximize your DW Window so it covers your entire desktop and panels are docked to the DW application frame.

Hi, I appreciate the reply.

I don't work with maximised windows; I need to regularly go between apps, as I am sure most people do. Having DW monopolise my screen is what I am trying to avoid. I switch apps by clicking on the relevant open window.

I've just been experimenting to try and give more detail. Generally when in DW I will have the file window and page window open. Switching to an indesign page makes the DW file window disappear but the page window remains on top.

However, I just tried your suggestion of docking the page window to the application window and that has solved it. So thanks for that - I can now switch between applications without DW getting in the way.

When in DW, the 'files' window can't apparently be docked to the application window and I still have the issue of it always being in front of other DW windows. Any ideas on that one? Window>Arrange>Tile seemed promising but has no effect.

Versions, as I said in my original post it's the latest DW and OS, so DW 21.1 and OS 12.0.1. I have two displays.

Grab the file window's name tab and drag it to the edge of the Application Frame until a highlight appears, then relese it and it will lock in place.

Some of DW's windows can only be docked in certain areas, so the highlight won't appear if you drag it to the top, for example. The Files window can only be docked on the left, right or bottom of the Application Frame.

I also have this issue and it is very (extremely) annoying. It reduces producitivity, so much so that I'm looking at other applications.

That's probably a good idea.

Adobe announced in 2020 that DW was no longer going to be receiving any new features or bug fixes. It's only being kept on life support for its current userbase with occasional OS compatibility, security, and third-party library updates.

1. Customize your WorkSpace and Save it as a Preference.

2. Your computer should have a Task Bar (mine is at screen bottom) to facilitate easy switching between launched apps.
